[digitalradio] Working jPSKMAIL URL
It seems that the links on the PSKMAIL wiki are not working for everyone. Below is an old email from Per about an August release. The link below does work. This is a CLIENT version for Windows, not a server version. Andy K3UK On Sun, Aug 23, 2009 at 6:03 AM, Per wrote: Hi all, Its taken quite a while but now its time for a new shiny release :-) We've done a whole lot of things since 0.3.6 and the changelist is long. A few highlights from the list: - Translations, german user interface (more translators wanted). - Server autolink, checkbox controlled - aprs messaging fixes - user interface cleanup - Better error messages, cleaned up some of the more common - New modem control tab in preferences. Now possible to have fldigi running on a remote machine. - Client now works even without rxtx installed (but a gps will need it) There is a map tab in there and that is unfinished but gives an idea of things to come in 0.3.8. The map tab loads from openstreetmap and you can pan and zoom to check out openstreetmap. The plan is to use the map to display received aprs data, grib weather and... well, more suggestions? There will be an offline map source included as well (provided there is an ok license). Also, there are installers for windows and linux that install what you need and create menu shortcuts. Installation for windows: Just download jpskmail-0.3.7-Setup.exe and doubleclick on it. Installation for linux: 1. Download jpskmail-0.3.7-Linux-x86-Install 2. Make that file executable, either right click on it and select properties and check the box that says "allow execution" (or similar) or enter "chmod +x jpskmail-0.3.7-Linux-x86-Install" in a terminal. 3. double click on it and run through the wizard. Installation for others (Macs, BSD etc): There will be a zip archive available, just unzip that and launch the jar.. You can get it all here: http://hermes.esrac.ele.tue.nl/pskmail/ Enjoy and 73, Per - SM0RWO
[digitalradio] PSK REPORTER: Not making sense
I've raised this before, but I still find the syntax at PSK Reporter awfully confusing. Perhaps I am just stupid. Example. Currently I am on the PSK Reporter page, I have it set for "On 80 meters show signal sent by the callsign K3UK using all modes over the last 30 minutes " When I click go I get a map of several stations in the USA. presumaley monitors stations. Should not the search parameters result in just signal that K3UK has heard? Also, what does "sent" mean versus "receive" ? If I receive a signal, am I not SENDING a report on what I received ?

[digitalradio] Re: How does one get started with pskmail?
Hi, I assume you mean for the client rather than server. If so, simplest way is to download the java client installer (Windows or Linux version) and install the application. Then read the quickstart.pdf file contained in the install directory (typically in "C:\Program Files\jpskmail\"). Alternatively there is a copy of this quickstart.pdf file in the downloads section referenced below. The main web site also contains an FAQs section. Downloads: http://sharon.esrac.ele.tue.nl/pub/linux/ham/pskmail/ Main site: http://pskmail.wikispaces.com/ Regards, John (VK2ETA) --- In digitalradio@yahoogroups.com, "jhaynesatalumni" wrote: > > Is there a document? >
[digitalradio] Re: How does one get started with pskmail?
There is a PSKMAIl "wiki" at http://pskmail.wikispaces.com/ Lots of detailed info there. the quick version is. For Windows, download the jPSKMAIL software that runs as a java application. Also download the Windows version of FLDIGI. Configure FLDIGI to run with your rig and PC (comm port, sound device, PTT method, etc). Check to make sure FLDIGI is working. Then boot up PSKMAIL , configure it. It needs things like your call sign, longitude/latitude, and also your mail settings (POP3 server, password to access your POP3 server, and your reply to address. Then, you need to decide which PSKMAIL SERVER you think will be best for the current conditions, there is a list of servers on their Wiki. Place the callsign of the server on the configure area where you placed your callsign. After you are configured, with rig on, FLDIGI booted and with the correct mode selected (usually PSK250) you click on the CONNECT button in jPSKMAIL and your rig will transmit a short burst of PSK250. If you are detected by the server, it will answer you. If you here the answer well enough, you will see the word "CONNECTED". It is once connected that you can do most things, about the only thing you can do without being conncted is send a "ping" or report your postion APRS-style. Once connected to a server for the FIRST time , the server will ask you to "UPDATE YOUR RECORD". You cannot do much without this. Click on EDIT, then preferences, make sure your email settings are stored and then press "UPDATE SETTINGS" . A few seconds later, the updated info should be transmitted by your rig to the server. If it goes through OK, you will see a message saying that things have been updated. Now you can send email that you may have composed , receive email, obtain the latest WWV info and more. I'm am writing all this from memory, hopefully I got it right. I have a virus on my PC and and will not let me boot any ham applications at the moment! I'm getting tired of Windows and thinking that Linux OS with FL-digi and PSKMAIL is sounding better and better Andy K3UK --- In digitalradio@yahoogroups.com, "jhaynesatalumni" wrote: > > Is there a document? >

Re: [digitalradio] Re: PSK Reporter and PSK250 reports ?
Thanks Philip, I will assume that FL-digi transmits the correct ADIF string to you for PSK250. It may simply be that the people using PSKMAIL via PSK250 are not reporting your PSK Reporter. It will be nice to see it get used more often so that PSKMAIL Servers propagation can be quickly viewed and a user decide which server to access for their mail. I am currently monitoring a server frequency, using PSK250, and have FLDIGI reporting to PSK REPORTER. I will check to see if the stations I have heard today are reported to PSK Reporter. Just run your TRX with WSPR for day or two and be prepared for nice surprise. My 800mW WSPR beacon with modest 30m dipole was heard at New Zeland from NJ, USA regularly. WSPR is really a great propagation and education tool. It will give a beginner hands on experience with HF propagation. With the signal strength reporting, it will give one a feeling on the time and power needed to do a contact in given mode. WSPR beacon is detected at minimum -29dB / 3kHz. PSK31 is readable at -13dB / 3kHz. If my beacon is heard at -25dB/3kHz, the PSK31 signal would be readable with -13-(-29)=+12dB linear amplifier, which would be about 13W compared to my 800mW beacon. 73, Vojtech OK1IAK
