[digitalradio] Mode that sounds like water drops on 40?

2009-10-16 Thread kg4kri
Hello all,
I am just getting back into digital radio after an eight year absence,
and there are a lot of new modes on the air. One that I cannot figure out
sounds like nothing so much as water dripping! I usually hear it on 40 late at
night or very early in the morning. Can anyone help me figure out what it is?

Sincerely,
Daniel, KG4KRI

Andy,

What are you running for Linux?

I can't speak for USB interfaces, but all my serial port based interfaces work
great with:
GRIG - rig control
WSJT - soundcard interface
gMFSK - sound card interface

I have a ICOM CT-17 ci-v interface and one of the OLD digipan soundcard
interfaces.

Using Ubuntu 9.04 64 and 32bit versions.

[digitalradio] NEW Olivia Forum at oliviamode.com

2009-10-16 Thread garylinnrobinson
I added a Forum web page on my http://www.oliviamode.com site. A link to it is
on the oliviamode.com home page or the forum can be accessed by using the same
url with /forum on the end : http://www.oliviamode.com/forum

It can be used to post sitings of Olivia activity, set up schedules, let others
know where you are calling CQ, etc. It also has sections to discuss the
various software progams for Olivia and a general discussion area.

It's brand new and currently has no members but it is open for use for all
those interested.

Tried a few times on 14116.0 dial +1000Hz -- nothing heard yet. I'm assuming
the AFC is on?

Thanks,

Yes, just came through at 23:15 (00uNC5O:72 Pskmail 0.8.7 - 23:15:20 66E5) but
I'm not able to connect. Signal is very strong.

[digitalradio] Re: Mode that sounds like water drops on 40?

2009-10-16 Thread kg4kri
Thanks guys,
It is not Olivia, even though it is similar. The tones have a distinct resonant
tone, eqach tone starts as somewhat percussive but decays gradually over about
50ms. The sound can be imitated b thumping your cheek with a finger while
making a resonant cavity with your mouth. The tones are similar to olivia
except for the fast decay. The timing between tones is the same as in olivia,
maybe 8 tones per second. I have heard this mode around 7040 USB and 3581 USB.
Thank you for the help, this is more curiosity than anything else. I will make
a recording the next time I hear it.
