The standard 'user' won't know to uninstall the bundled version as plino did. This is similar to when OOo installed insecure versions of java et al. The user would then have parallel versions of jave installed. I'd recommend a followup to the dev list. plino, when you do that you might also add links to the security notices for the earlier version of VC++ 2008. -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to discuss+h...@documentfoundation.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.documentfoundation.org/www/discuss/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Visual C++ 2008 uses shared side-by-side assemblies that are installed into the native assembly cache (WinSxS folder on the Windows root). The manifests of the applications describe their dependencies on Visual C++ libraries, including version info. If you don't have the matching version already installed, then the installer should install the version referenced in the manifests. If the version is already installed, the VC runtime installer does nothing. But in this case, it's polite to detect that the version is already installed and don't launch it, although many application launch it anyway "just in case". > 2) New dictionaries are selected to install (this time Kurdish, Nepali, > Occitan and Romanian). [tdf-discuss] LibO 3.4.2 RC1 under Windows
Hi all First of all I find it odd that this release is named RC1. Shouldn't there be a Beta first? I found the following bugs in the Windows installer: 1) Forces installation of MS VC++ 2008 x86 9.0.30729.4148 although MS VC++ 2008 x86 9.0.30729.6161 was already installed 2) New dictionaries are selected to install (this time Kurdish, Nepali, Occitan and Romanian). Isn't there a way for it to remember just the ones previously selected and ignore all new? 3) Portuguese dictionary isn't included (but the Language Pack is). The dictionary for Brazilian Portuguese should be renamed to Portuguese (Brasil) just like e.g. German (Germany) 4) The "Create a start link on desktop" option is always selected although I unselect it every time. This is the only installer option that isn't saved from one install to the next.
