[tdf-discuss] Re: Returning to OpenOffice

2015-01-06 Thread Ivan Stephen
Actually, I downloaded the LATEST Mac versions of both OpenOffice and
LibreOffice (the "still" version). There was no improvement at all in the
latest LibreOffice, at least for the important file that brought this to a
head for me.

I can't find the bug reports related to copying a short phrase into the find
field, but I was getting emails about my bug report for months. And yet,
the latest version of LibreOffice still has that bug. There seemed to be
disagreement among your coders as to whether it's a bug. But from a user's
viewpoint - if something doesn't work as one would expect, or if it's less
efficient than it could be - then it's a bug.

Another nice thing to have would be a much more intutive way to protect cell
content. The current method is simply unusable.

[tdf-discuss] Returning to OpenOffice - Large SS file

2015-01-06 Thread Ivan Stephen
Hi Simon,

On second thought, I can't see any reason not to send the file I'm working on.
Other than the large number of URLs and email addresses in it, I don't think
there's anything unusual about it. My long-term plan after I've completed it
and rearranged it manually, is to export the info to Filemaker.

My guess is that the Find interface in OOo was a dialog box that gave
up focus when one clicked on the 'Edit' menu. AOO kept that interface,
and LO changed it around the time of 3.4.x.

Re: [tdf-discuss] Re: RfD: Non-corporate user representation?

2015-01-06 Thread Mike Hall

Charles and Thorsten,
Many thanks for your support for the principle and apologies for a very
slow response. Distracted by a personal issue which had to take absolute
priority, I'm still catching up on other things.

I plan to take this matter to the next stage by the end of January.

I will wish to comment on your responses about the implied strategy,
also to be prepared when I have the opportunity.

Happy New Year,
Mike

No, I don't. I did the same switch. Twice… (but I still have LibreOffice
installed so I can try it out now and then, when I don't have anything
better to do…)

No, not large at all.

I have several spreadsheets way bigger than yours, with formulas,
conditional formatting and macros, opening in less than a minute. With
Apache OpenOffice. 3:45 sounds way too much to me. And I bought this
computer in 2007…

I didn't test that, but I believe you.

I didn't know it could, but I don't use those formats anyway, and if
someone sends me such a file I just delete it. Problem solved.

With what? I didn't use MS Office since at least 2007 (that's the year I
stopped using Windows), but I certainly don't miss any features in either
LibreOffice or Apache OpenOffice.

I also reported bugs a while ago, but in the end I just found too many so I
went back to my life. In fact there are a couple of bugs in Apache
OpenOffice as well, but I just don't have time to report them anymore, and
most of them are just looks anyway.

And I never got along very well with this mailing list; I always forget to
”reply to all”, which I don't need to do with most of the mailing lists I'm
subscribed to, including those for Apache OpenOffice…

I believe this is MAB4.3 bug 49853 - EDITING: Attempting paste into
find bar with Edit:Paste (or Cmd-V on OS X) pastes into document
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49853

I'll take a peek and see if we can do a bit more triage on this one.
It's a short read -- it doesn't even have 100 comments yet! :-)

Are you able to offer a test case for this issue so that someone can work
on it please? A sample file plus a description of the software versions you
are using is what's needed.

I guess you must have worked with a recent, still, version of LibreOffice.
Pls see the download page for explanation of the still and the fresh
versions. Bot stable, but meant for a different audience.

Looks as you have been mislead by headlines of media that published made
ill-informed articles. Munich is not retuning to Microsoft. On the
contrary: they use the freedom to actively participate in open source
software ;)

Can you pls point me to the bug report? Let's see what is going on there.
