Re: [tdf-discuss] LibreOffice deployment and enterprise-wide settings

2013-06-05 Thread Eduardo Moreno

You can create a extensión to install with

soffice --shared add extension.oxt

El 05/06/13 10:02, eric.ficheux escribió:

Hi,

I'm currently working on a LibreOffice deployment for 5K users and I want to
give the users access to corporate document templates + a few custom tweaks
like keyboard shortcuts, macro security level and so on.

The only way we found to do it is through the registrymodifications.xcu file
in the user profile.

It is a 2 step process:
1: LibreOffice is downloaded and installed to the computers (with admin
profile)
2: After reboot, the user profile is removed and the
registrymodifications.xcu file is put in place before LibreOffice is started
(we do this after a reboot so the current user profile is updated, we can't
do it at step 1 because it runs under admin profile and we can't easily find
the current user profile)

The process isn't very elegant, it looks more like a hack than industrial
deployment:

The .xcu file contains a lot of things, the only way I found to build a
custom one is to apply the settings "by hand" first and then find the lines
added in the .xcu file to build a "clean" one with only the lines required.
Keeping only our settings seems OK but we lose all user configuration in
the process
It also requires a reboot which some users don't do often to avoid wasting
time with slow machines.

Is there a best way to apply a company-wide configuration that wouldn't
require reboot and would keep individual user settings?

Best Regards,
Eric Ficheux

Re: [tdf-discuss] disclaimer for extension website

El 21/07/11 03:32, Florian Effenberger escribió:

Hello,

I'd like to quote my colleague Thorsten Behrens on this:

==
With the upcoming extension website,
we'll need some kind of click-through license agreement, for someone
submitting software, and a disclaimer on the front page, refusing
liability on third-party-provided software that we host.

What makes this really easier is that we'll for the while only host
opensource extensions, so at least in theory, one can properly
review the source code for any nasties.

Looked a bit into the boilerplate the Mozilla foundation came up
with, for that -

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/about
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/developers/docs/policies/reviews
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/developers/docs/policies/submission
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/about/legal.html

are the relevant pages I guess.

The meat of that is:

Legal Disclaimers and Limitations

Responsibility of Contributors. Those who post material to, provide
links to material from, or otherwise make material available by means
of Mozilla’s websites (“Contributors”) are entirely responsible for
the content of, and any harm resulting from, that material. By acting

   limited to intellectual property rights, of any third party;

 * you have fully complied with any third-party licenses relating to
such materials, and have done all things necessary to successfully
   pass through to end users any required terms;

 * the materials you make available do not contain any viruses, worms,
   Trojan horses or other harmful or destructive content;

 * the materials you make available are not obscene or libelous, and
   do not violate the right of privacy or publicity of any third party;
   and

 * you have, in the case of computer code, accurately categorized and
described the type and nature of the materials if and when requested
   by Mozilla to do so.

Without limiting any of those representations or warranties, Mozilla has
the right (though not the obligation) to, in Mozilla’s sole discretion:

 (a) remove any content that, in Mozilla’s reasonable opinion, violates
any Mozilla policy or is in any way harmful or objectionable; or

 (b) require changes in any license agreement relating to any
materials made available by any Contributor.

Responsibility of Website Users. Mozilla has not reviewed, and cannot
review, all of the material, including computer software, available on
or by means of Mozilla’s websites, and cannot therefore be responsible
for that material’s content, use or effects. By operating its
websites, Mozilla does not represent or imply that it endorses the
material there available, or that it believes such material to be
accurate, useful or nonharmful. You are responsible for taking
precautions as necessary to protect yourself and your computer systems
from viruses, worms, Trojan horses and other harmful or destructive
content. Mozilla's websites may contain content that is offensive,
indecent or otherwise objectionable, as well as content containing
technical inaccuracies, typographical mistakes and other
errors. Mozilla’s websites may also contain material that violates the
privacy or publicity rights, or infringes the proprietary rights, of
third parties, or the downloading, copying or use of which is subject
to additional terms and conditions, stated or unstated. Mozilla
disclaims any responsibility for any harm resulting from the use by
Mozilla's visitors of Mozilla’s websites, or from any downloading by
those visitors of content available on or by means of Mozilla’s
websites.

That whole DMCA guff they have there further down is prolly
unnecessary, we can simply link to our imprint, so people know whom
to contact.
==

Any feedback welcome, as we want to launch the extensions website
soon. :)

Florian

I think, only extensions with licences free. (GPL, Apache, Mozilla, etc.)
With legal disclaimer for LibreOffice.

It's indeed interesting that they are not referenced on

Yes, I think the pages should point to the official lists inside the

If there are no objections in 24 hours, I'll edit the pages to point
to the official lists.

Re: [tdf-discuss] Name Change for LibreOffice Applications

Today there was an announcement that KOffice got a new name (Calligra)
and they also renamed some of the Applications. "KWord" became "Words",
"KSpread" became "Tables" and "KPresenter" was renamed to "Stages".

I was wondering whether such a name change has been considered for the
LibreOffice Applications. The point is that I don't really like the
current names. I'm not a Name Designer, but Writer, Calc and Impress
don't really sound good in my ears and I would even say that most people
using OpenOffice would not know the names of the Applications they are
using, only that it's OpenOffice.

If LibreOffice changed the names of the Applications shipping, that
might also help people to differentiate between OpenOffice and
LibreOffice in Future.

Here a comparison of the names of text processing, spreadsheet and
presentation program of six Office Suites:

MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Apple iWork: Pages, Numbers, Keynote
Calligra(former KOffice): Words, Tables, Stages
Softmaker Office: Textmaker, Planmaker, Presentations
Corel WordPerfect Office: WordPerfect, Quattro Pro, Presentations
OpenOffice.org: Writer, Calc, Impress

I think MS Office, iWork and now Calligra have the best names for their
applications. It's easy to spell and easy to remember.
I would like to hear what everyone else is thinking about changing names
for LibreOffice applications.

Samuel M.

I like the names of the applications.
