Re: [IxDA Discuss] I'm designing in Visio for the last time

2009-03-30 Thread Niklas Wolkert
I couldn't agree more to Håkans comment about SketchFlow. The whole
Visio w/f to interactive prototype work flow might be just s much
easier with this.

http://videos.visitmix.com/MIX09/C01F Its a somewhat bad demo as it
looks like they try to do a web site inside of an application but you
get the picture.

It fits very well with our studio work flow set-up with ixd graphic
designer developer.

And it doesn't exclude CS stuff either. Blend3 eats both bitmaps and
vector graphics from CS natively now.

I see a future killer here if SketchFlow delivers what it promises.

Re: [IxDA Discuss] What's your favorite memory of Interaction 08?

2008-12-29 Thread Niklas Wolkert
Connecting in person with loads of people I only met in other mediums
before. Meeting with peers in the field that you as a European seldom
get a chance to do and the general feeling of being part of something
big.

The local leaders dinner was also a true feel of community force.

I remember meeting Josh Seiden in person for the 1st time (with whom
I at that point had shared a IxDA board position since one year) and
upon him saying Hi Niklas! asking: I'm sorry, you are who?.

I blame it on the mist of high fever and the strange strong U.S.
Pharmacy pain relievers I took to suppress it... My hidden agenda for
Vancouver is def to make up for all the partying and beers with peers
I missed because of this.

Congratulations! A great group of people that I am convinced will
guide IxDA to become an even stronger entity for interaction
designers all over the planet.

Hope to see you all in Vancouver!

Re: [IxDA Discuss] Twitter

2008-10-23 Thread Niklas Wolkert
Isn't Twitter (currently) very much about following fellow _English
speaking_ tweeters?

In Sweden, and to my knowledge Europe (correct me if I'm wrong),
twitter hasn't taken of(on?) at all. For various reasons, but a big
one I guess being language. Having my 'local' friends following my
English tweets would just be silly having my Turkish or Dutch or
German or XXX friends look at texts like: Jag åt en suverän
blodpudding i killarnas omklädninsgrum i morse, equally silly, i
promise you :)

Give me automatic direct translations of tweets. When I decide to
follow, I also choose what language I want to see it in. That could
actually ad a layer of humor.

Re: [IxDA Discuss] IxD(a) meetings in London

2008-02-22 Thread Niklas Wolkert
Hi Matt et al.

Sounds like a plan! We did pretty much the same thing in Stockholm.

I spoke some to Mikhail Goldgaber from Avenuea-Razorfish (cc) back in
Savannah who also expressed interest in doing something IxDA local in
London.

Just let me know if there's anything we can do to support you, other
then cheering you on ;)

Hi - I came back from the IxDA conference in Savannah with just the

As you say - there are a few regular events by other associations and

  everyday-interaction-designer focussed.

Perhaps the best thing to do would be just to pick a pub with a

2008-01-27 Thread Niklas Wolkert
Hi all

In the invitation from the IxDA Board to the Local groups Task Force a
couple of weeks ago we also invited all active local leaders coming to
our conference in Savannah to join us for a dinner on Friday night.
So far we're 14 people going.

We're planning to have a 3-4hr event to socialize, exchange ideas and
to talk about your needs and the things to come.

Please RSVP to either me and/or Josh (joshseiden(at)yahoo.com) before
Wednesday this week.

All the best!

[IxDA Discuss] Local Groups Task Force / Local Leaders Dinner

2008-01-13 Thread Niklas Wolkert
Hello members and leaders of IxDA

As we stated in last December (see
http://ixda.org/discuss.php?post=23183), one of the important 2008
focus areas for the IxDA Board is to further develop the local
initiatives. To get an understanding of your needs and to create a
plan for how to address this area, we are inviting all former, current
and potential local leaders/initiators to a private discussion on how
to best move forward with local initiatives.

Have you thought about starting a local chapter but aren't sure how to
do it? Do you have ideas and the drive to create something that can
help local chapters out? Do you have what you need to get going? If
you are currently running a local chapter, what is going well and what
is not? What support would you like to have from the Board or global
IxDA membership? If you used to run a local chapter, what sort of
things would have helped you out, and what were some of the challenges
that you encountered?

All these questions are examples of discussions we'd like to have with
you. We'll start with gathering everybody in the IxDA Boards' online
forum, and create ourselves a Local Groups Task Force. We intend for
this Local Groups Task Force to be a standard part of our work with a
first deadline to deliver results by summer 2008. By results we intend
for and hope that some of the identified needs are solved within this
time span. We also want to conduct regular meetings to secure
momentum.

The goals of the Local Groups Task Force are to
- Gather and cluster relevant information on local groups' needs
- Come up with suitable supporting functions infrastructure to
address these needs
- Identify sub-tasks for how to create these supporting functions
(addressing costs, resources and time)
- Prioritize the various sub-tasks based on feasibility and level of need
- Plan and execute implementation projects

If you would like to help out with the Local Groups Task Force, please
send a mail to me and you'll be invited to the forum.

As hinted previously, for those of you who are local leaders and/or
plan to participate in the LGTF and are coming to the Interaction08
conference the board would like to invite to a local leaders dinner on
Friday night at a restaurant in Savannah to meet and talk about our
challenges and opportunities. We would love to see you there and if
you want to come, please RSVP to me by February the 1st.

All the best!

[IxDA Discuss] Haptikos tactile touch screen technology

2007-11-07 Thread Niklas Wolkert
Some of you may have already seen this:

http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/06/nokia-shows-off-haptikos-tactile-touch-screen-technology/

I wonder if this 0.1mm movement follows the graphical shape behind
it? Use shades of grey to tell the 'height' of a button maybe? Would
that be of any help at these levels?

In any case interesting stuff.
