This is all great. Thanks all.

Someone also emailed me this example from Converse:

and this UI pattern site:

Hi Donna,

I would suggest start with name UIE.com of Jared M. Spool and his
podcast "Podcast: Luke Wroblewski on Strategy By Design".
Also have a look at http://www.lukew.com/ which is basically best
form advice I've ever heard.

Hope it helps.
Jiri

I saw this neat filter recently at http://www.sixwineseight.com that
changes wine choices based on selected criteria and uses a graphic
image to provide instant feedback. It's a much simpler form than
you're probably looking for but I think it's a nice example of
graphic feedback that's fun and could apply to a wizard. Something
like a small interactive graphic that mimics the form of the document
being created that serves as a little map to take the user through the
creation process and gives them feedback about what's been done,
might be useful in your case.

Real time feedback is what will make it fun, clear and
easy-to-understand.

[IxDA Discuss] Wizard/Form Design Inspiration

2009-09-29 Thread Donna Lichaw
Hi all,

Can anyone think of any online or offline apps or websites that have
a well-designed "wizard" or customization widget/feature that helps
you customize and produce big blocks of text? Like write a letter, or
customize a product, or create a product...What I'm working on is
text-based, but I'd love to see any examples, text or photo or
whatever, anyone's got!

Basically, I'm looking for examples that take in *many*
inputs/fields and display *many* options/returns in a fun, clear, and
easy-to-understand way. Real-time feedback (output updating as you
type/select options) would be nice.

If anyone's got examples that aren't "wizards" in particular, but
just innovative forms with many steps, that's cool too.

Thanks!
Donna
