Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] FORMhub

2015-10-11 Thread Polimi
Ravi and Kate and All
We are working and have experience with ODK. In my slides in slideshare you
can see the content of my presentation at OCU. We prepared a simple example and
we started immediately collecting data ( in this case the data were about bike
parking, but the system is completely flexible). Data can be visualized in 2 D.
Moreover we built a collaborative 4D platform based on NASA world wind allowing
people to add content ( image, video, audio, comment) to the data previously
collected via ODK). Please let me know if you need more info.

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Renaming FOSS4G

2015-10-11 Thread Jeff McKenna
Renaming one of our most known projects, OSGeo-Live, is exactly what we
should not be doing, in order to promote the OSGeo foundation to the
masses.

Regarding that topic though, it is a good time to bring up discussions
of having the OSGeo-Live project actually enter into OSGeo Incubation,
so that it formalizes as an OSGeo Project (right now it is classed as an
"Outreach Project"). There was discussion of this in the past, but the
time is right to bring that onto the front burner.

This week the OSGeo Board will also likely formalize the "Geo For All"
group as the official name of the committee focused on education for the
OSGeo foundation. (there was a request for this from Suchith)

So my point, as you see, is that these items are very closely tied to
OSGeo, even if a lot of people don't realize that. yet. (lots of work
to do here of course, by the entire community/team)

Talk soon all,

-jeff

Indeed i think that Venka is right.
OSGeo-live may let people think that all the software inside is part of the
OSGeo projects. FOSS4G-live is more correct and clear in this sense.

Regarding the name of the conference i have already expressed my view
(unfortunately not considered): the important is to define rules that
guarantees equity, openess, transparence and that clerly says that foss4g
is the OSGeo AGM.

By the way, in my understanding, "OSGeo" is foundation name,
and I prefer "[Software/library name] conference"(PyCon .etc) than
"[Foundation name] conference"
in open source world.

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] My name is now Andrea

2015-10-11 Thread Maria Antonia Brovelli
Andrea, congrats for this important step.

Unfortunately we have never spoken together at conferences and I'm realizing
right now how many pieces of life of our FOSS4G companions we are missing.

You put things in the right perspective: we are not only developers, students,
professors, charter members but first of all human beings with a richer and
interesting life. Thanks, Andrea!!!

I'm proud to be friend of you in the internet and I hope to have the same
possibility also in our real life.

Kisses from Italy!

Maria

Dear Everyone,

Please pardon me for those who already know this news.

I participate quite a bit and have supported OSGeo initiatives since the early
days (FWIW, I am a charter member since 2008), and it seems appropriate to
share this here as well.

If you please, it is my wish you call me
Andrea from
now on. Thank you.

Kind regards,

Andrea

I agree completely with Venka. Our strength up to now has to be inclusive,
considering all excellent and community based free and open source projects.
Let us continue in this way!!!

I think the OSGeo-Live project that you are leading can be safely
(re)-named as
FOSS4G-Live as it has a wonderful array of software projects that are not
under the OSGeo umbrella as yet.

When Frank and I first met about creating a Windows installer so many

as is OSGeo-Live, as is the OSGeo foundation.

Adding a perspective from someone who marketed FOSS4G 2009.
Creating a marketing message is all about minimising words used,
because
"less words get read more".

When explaining FOSS4G to people outside our community you need to use:

"international conference for Free and Open Source Software for
GeoSpatial (FOSS4G), presented by the Open Source Geospatial Foundation
(OSGeo)."

vs

"international Open Source Geospatial (OSGeo) conference"

This is a good question to put to the charter members for a vote at
some
point.

Hi Jeff,
There has been some progress toward taking OSGeo-Live through OSGeo
incubation.
However, as it is taking a secondary role, and is not specifically
resourced, we are being reasonably quiet about our [lack of] recent
