Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [Election 2016] Nomination for OSGEO Board: Jeffrey Johnson

2016-09-13 Thread Jody Garnett
Thanks for putting forward that nomination Tim, you beat me to it :)

I had a chance to catch up with jj0hns0n at foss4g and hear a little bit
about his vision and passion for our organization. As has already been
noted Jeff is known for two things in our community: extensive
outreach/advocacy and direct open source leadership. It is this balance of
experience as a candidate that makes me happy to recommend him.

Jeff goes way back with our community, starting with grass in 2003 as an
undergrad. Working with OpenGeo and now with his own consulting shop (
terranodo.io) doing core development.

He is most well known for his work with the world bank, providing a
constant stream new faces on social media as he sets up teams around the
world with workshops and code sprints. The one-two-punch of both foss4g
usage and open source mentorship is exactly the kind of advocacy that
benefits OSGeo. (opendri.org, codeforresilience.org, etc...)

Since I tend to focus on projects, it is really important to highlight his
role as GeoNode core committer and project lead (geonode.org). The hands on
experience of going through OSGeo incubation, and releasing open source
software provides an important perspective on the work required here at
OSGeo.

You can also watch his passion on the open data front, in particular using
open data and access to information to facilitate political involvement and
change in his local community (opensandiego.org, wherecamp.org,
codeforamerica.org).

I am glad Jeff accepted the nomination, please take a moment click on some
of the links above, and consider Jeff when it comes time to vote.

[OSGeo-Discuss] [Election 2016] Board nomination for Dirk Frigne

2016-09-13 Thread Jorge Sanz
Forwarding nominations of Moritz Lennert and Gert-Jan van der Weijden for
Dirk Frigne.

CRO 2016

Hello,

I would like to nominate Dirk Frigne (dirk.fri...@geosparc.com) from
Belgium as a board member.

Dirk has entered the Board recently and has since worked hard on
advancing OSGeo interests and on pushing an agenda of
professionalizing OSGeo as an organisation. He was one of the
co-founders of OSGeo.be in Belgium and has been one of the leaders of
the OSGeo-EU initiative which led to the creation of this new chapter
and which hopefully will allow breaking the stronghold of proprietary
software in EU institutions and allow the integration of more foss4g in
European initiatives and programmes, by federating European actors
into networks.

He has a strong business perspective and thus ensures a voice for all
the small SME's active in foss4g.

I feel that he has only just begun and that at his current rate of
pouring energy into OSGeo he will bring a lot to the community if he
is allowed to continue in the board.

Moritz

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [Election 2016] Board Nomination for Massimiliano Cannata

2016-09-13 Thread haya...@apptec.co.jp

Dear All,

Maxi has been an active member of OSGeo foundation
and served the community well in various capacities.
He has also help to spread the spirit of FOSS4G the
worldover and I had several occasions to interact
with him at conferences and workshops in Asia and Europe.
About the Technology side story, Gérald Fenoy already introduced enough for his
work.

I strongly support Maxi's nomination for re-election as
OSGeo Board Member.

Dear Cro,

please find bellow my nomination.

Hello OSGeo community,
I would like to nominate Massimiliano Cannata aka "Maxi" from Switzerland
as board member.

Maxi is the leader of the geomatic division from the institute of Earth
Sciences SUPSI. I had the pleasure of working with Maxi on the OSGeo board
and greatly admire his dedication to the OSGeo community, logical approach
and a keen knack of getting things done. He is deeply involved in OSGeo and
FOSS4G at various level and is always willing to help and provide his
relevant input on so many different topics, which sounds very important for
a board member. He has proved his dedication to OSGeo during his term by
being always constructive in the discussion and taking part of various
committees, such as the United Nations committee for which he is now the
co-chair. He is also involved in various projects at various level, the
first which come to my mind is the istSOS project that he is leading with
his team and his growing community, a workshop for istSOS is handled every
year for at least 3 years during the FOSS4G. He is also involved in the
ZOO-Project PSC since 2010 and was in the GRASS PSC from 2006 to 2016. His
amazing knowledge about how things works in OSGeo or should work for the
better, his dedication and his capability to work and discuss openly with
different kind of people prove that he is a real asset for the OSGeo board.

His personal OSGeo wiki page can be found here [1]
