Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo charter member list - where to find on the new website?

2018-01-27 Thread Jody Garnett
There are a couple issues about this:
- https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/ticket/2085

TLDR:

1) Ask cro/secretary to update the wiki page (the page has restricted
access)
2) Ask charter members to add a profile on the new website so we can have a
complete list

Astrid has stepped up as our new secretary (thanks Astrid) and one of they
major challenges of the role is maintaining the voting members list (with
contact details).

[OSGeo-Discuss] OSGeo charter member list - where to find on the new website?

2018-01-27 Thread Helmut Kudrnovsky
Dear OSGeo community,

looking at

http://old.www.osgeo.org/content/foundation/members/voting_members.html

"OSGeo Foundation Charter Members
Charter Members have the same responsibilities as all members, with the
additional responsibility of voting for board members."

there is a list of the 390 charter members.

searching on the new website, there seems to be only some news entries about
charter member elections, but no charter member list as on the old website.

some questions:

- is it a work in progress to move the charter member list to the new website?
- if not, is there any public available decision about this?
- if not, why aren't the charter members informed about this?

Kind regards
Helmut

I think you make a news post, and there is a section where you can
associate it with GeoForAll (indeed a news post can be associated with
individual local chapters and projects also ...).

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [Geo4All] GeoForAll teaching and research resources

2018-01-27 Thread Charlie Schweik
Hi,

Just wanted to say -- these pages in the below email are a really great
start, in my humble opinion. Nice work!

I'd like to circle back to what I was trying to jumpstart when I did my
GeoForAll webinar on Commons-based Peer Production [0]. *What we need to do
is self-identify GeoForAll labs, willing to collaborate on some educational
topic (or research agenda), and start collaborating.*

For example, my colleagues and I at UMass are working on a set of exercises
for an Applications in Unmanned Aerial Systems class for higher education.
As we get initial exercises done, we will plan to make them available,
somehow, under "In your classroom" [1] with Creative Commons licenses that
allow sharing and permit new derivatives. We're in dialog with Michael
Starek and Phil Davis about this with the goal of collaboration between our
two GeoForAll labs.

Version control is still a question.

GeoAcademy uses Github to store their content which is great. I just worry
that for some that might be too technical for some. There are a number of
other options. GitBook [2] is one, Rice U's OpenStax [3], or even something
as simple as shared, read only, Google Drive folders. I'm going to take
this collaboration opportunity to work on this more. What we want, I
believe, is something very simple, with few rules or standards that be a
negative force slowing down collaboration.

In short:

I encourage other Geoforall labs working in education to identify two-lab
collaboration opportunities to develop and share GeoForAll educational
content in some area that *you need for your own teaching*, and let's try
and build a content library moving toward open access to educational
"source" and version control, as a community. Let's see what new stuff we
can have under [1] by the end of summer 2018!

If anyone takes up this challenge -- let us know!

Cheers,

Charlie

Hi Suchith,

I believe it was running on OSGeo's server (year's ago Tyler Mitchell,
director of OSGeo, set it up). I was assuming the server was periodically
being backed up? Who has maintained the server over the last few years?

Also we would like to add GeoForAll community news (GeoAmbassodor etc) through

2018-01-27 Thread Suchith Anand

Thanks Jody. I have now updated the section with the link also.

All - does anyone know where the resources of the Old OSGeo education
repository are? The old repository had great number of educational resources
(lecture slides, tutorials, workshop materials etc) but I cannot find it now as
the link is missing and we need to make sure these are added to the new website.

Best wishes,

Suchith

Small correction to "class project" page.

Full list of OSGeo projects
Provides the full list of available Free and Open source GIS from web mapping
to desktop GIS that you can make use of for your teaching and research.

We are an open source foundation, not all of the projects are "free and open",
some are simply "open source" (see what is open
source).
