I have been working now for some years with Ben on the WorldMap and
Hypermap projects and I am always delighted by his extensive knowledge
of the open source stack used in these projects. He was greatly
involved in the GeoNode project since its origins.
He is a big advocate of geospatial open source software here at the
Harvard University and in the Boston area geospatial community, and he
is a regular speaker at OSGeo conferences. As mentioned by Andy, he
also put a lot of effort to organize the latest FOSS4G conference in
Boston.

Alessio is a great expert - since many many years - of GeoServer and

I am really glad that Jeff is accepting the nomination. I know him since
many years now, and we worked closely on a lot of different projects. He
has an outstanding knowledge of OSGeo projects and its community, literally
endless energies, a huge commitment to the open source movement, and a
great attitude to help others.
As remembered by Jody he contributed a great part of his spare time in the
last few years for volunteering with civic hacking initiatives.

I think he would represent without doubt an awesome asset for OSGeo.

Totally agree with this. Licenses is what really matters in my opinion as well.
And I agree wording could be improved, but now this is a long term
definition and it needs to be accepted.
Also note that most of OSGeo projects would not exists if they were
not using underlying software from projects generated with a BDFL
model.

go from 50K to 150K.

Hey Jody

S5 is a slide show format based on XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript [0].
It integrates very well with reST as a command line utility for
converting reST to S5 is provided within docutils, give a look at this [1]
link.
Even if you don't want to use S5, you can still use reST and convert
the slides to pdf, via the rst2pdf [2] (included in docutils too). I
had very good results with it.
BTW: It would be very nice to have an OSGeo template for reST, if you
have one it would be nice if you could share ;)

I personally write slides in reST and then convert them to s5 with rst2s5.
You may use then Sphinx if you want to publish your material as
documentation on web.

What you need to do could easily be accomplished with GDAL and GEOS
(for example with Python) or GeoTools and JTS (with Java), but as far
as I know you should write yourself a script for performing this
action.
I don't know it there may already be production ready scripts
performing what you need with this technologies.
Your only option here could be to use GRASS, but as far as I know you
need to import your shapefile to the GRASS database, use a GRASS
command (v.reclass [0]) and export back to shapefile the result, so it
is not very direct.

 Use case:
 1. I get a subset of the data for field work for a couple of days.
 Coming back from field work, I sync the edits to the main data
 server.  An application takes care of the merge like git does.

 2. Two field workers, edit the same data on a different area.  An
 application manages the conflict before merging to main data server.

not sure about foss4g software, but Esri implemented since many years
both this 2 features with disconnected editing [1] and versioning [2]

In my opinion: no problem to pay, but it would make more sense if it
would have been in a better material.
I think it could be sold for even more than 10-15 EUR, but the quality
should be good ;)
As it was written in a previous email, this kind of stuff (t-shirts,
bags...) make an impressive marketing when used in social events, so
it would make a big difference if the t-shirt life is longer.
