[OSGeo-Discuss] General information about FOSS4G market

2019-09-20 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Dear all,
for a research statistical activity I need the following information.
I would like to understand if there is any publication or any available
data regarding the possibilities for private businesses offered by the
FOSS4G market in the different sectors. In particular what I am looking for
is some information about the dimensions of the businesses involved in the
FOSS4G market for the different sectors, mainly in the application and in
the development of GIS tools.

Do someone know if there is a reference page or paper where to find
this information? It would be fine also if there are different sources for
different countries or even continents.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Silvia

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] list of open source software for spatial risk modeling (prediction)

2017-08-28 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Dear Shawn,
the project you presented seems to be very interesting and helpful for all.
I had a quick look at the article you linked and, even if I didn't
investigated in deep which kind of processing tools you will need to do, I
can add to your list the Free and Open Source tools that are integrated in
the gvSIG desktop GIS (www.gvSIG.org):
- the JGrassTools library, which have tools for the analysis of vector and
raster data (http://moovida.github.io/jgrasstools/ -
https://blog.gvsig.org/2017/03/02/on-the-road-to-gvsig-2-4-jgrasstools-and-geopaparazzi-plugins-for-gvsig-desktop/
)
- the Geoprocessing toolbox of gvSIG itself (
http://downloads.gvsig.org/download/web/en/build/html/user_manual/2.3/manual/040.html)
which contains a lot of additional analysis tools especially on vector data.

If you have more specific questions or if you have/nee to find geospatial
data to analyse and have an idea on which kind of analysis you would do,
feel free to contact me in private and I will be very happy to help you for
this research.

Best regards

Silvia

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] [Election 2014] Nomination for Andrea Antonello

2014-07-25 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Even if I am not a charter member, I would like to second the nomination of
Andrea.
Probably the most famous project he is developing is Geopaparazzi, but I
would like to remember that he also did some important development of
scientific tools. Andrea is the main developer of JGrasstools (
http://moovida.github.io/jgrasstools/) a library of scientific modules for
environmental analysis and NetTools (
https://bitbucket.org/moovida/nettools/wiki/Home) a set of tools for water
management in urban areas.
He is now working on the development of tools for LiDAR analysis that will
be integrated in JGrassTools.

+1 for me

Silvia

[OSGeo-Discuss] Re: FOSS4G speakers selected and program to be published shortly

2011-06-10 Thread Silvia Franceschi

Dear Peter,
just to be sure, is the deadline for the early registration really extended to
June 30th?
I checked the website (timetable) and there is still the 17th June.

Thanks in advance for the reply

Silvia

300 submissions for around 150 slots, so unfortunately there were lots of good submissions that we
couldn't find a place for. We're excited that we have such a strong program.

We're still finalizing some details on the program schedule and uploading everything to the web
site (and re-vamping the site at the same time). We plan to have the program available online

later than planned in publishing the program, we have also extended the early registration

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] idrological data from european states

2011-01-31 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Hi Marco,
I have some experience with Austrian data and it's seems to be similar to
Italian, the responsible for the hydrologic data are the local
administrations lands.
So if you need the data you have to request them to the land where you are
working.
For some meteo data the responsible is the ZAMG, you can request them to it,
especially temperature, pressure and so on.

Hope this helps

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Shapefile's dfb editing

2008-12-12 Thread Silvia Franceschi

Thanks to all!

The problem is in the length, but not in the column name but in the
dimension of the numbers given in the column header. I really don't
know exactly what they means... but it works!!

For example:
heigth,N,33,31
is not a valid length for an attribute column to be saved with OpenOffice.
If I change it into:
heigth,N,8,2
and in general if the sum of the last two numbers is less than 16
(bytes...?) it works fine and I can save the edited dbf.

Thanks again for the attention,

Ciao

Silvia

I don't know if this would matter but file name length could be

Some dbf files that open in Excel won't open in Access unless renamed
to 8 (I think) characters or less.

Maybe if you rename it shorter and try it might work.

Definitely be careful with a live shapefile dbf though - you should
probably rename the shapefile to a shorter name and then try to open
the dbf again.

I am surprised that Open Office couldn't open the DBF. Most open

If not, you could send me the file and I could see if I could open
it in

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Driving licenses for geofoss?

2008-06-13 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Ciao Andrea,

If I may, I would suggest that we first wait to close out the test with one
application. Getting through the process has exposed some interesting steps
that took long in our experience. The same steps may be streamlined once
we/somebody decided to replicate them on other packages.

This is a logic and appreciate procedure... we all appreciate the efforts
you put in this project.

Last but not least, I also want to hear feedback from the first person who
will get his/her license out of our test.

Again, this will help in tuning things on other initiatives. While this
*may* apparently delay the diffusion of the other packages, this will also
help whoever will commit to this to do it better on a second round.

My point of view was just to have a look at what a GIS should have to be
used for the ECDL, and eventually organize our (JGrass team) efforts (during
the next year) also developing the issues needed to begin to think at this.
I think the requirements should be published and update on the dedicated
wiky page, just to keep in mind the developers these opportunity.

What do you think about this?

Re: [OSGeo-Discuss] Driving licenses for geofoss?

2008-06-12 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Hi Andrea,
thanks for the info.

We could try to do the same thing of QGIS and GVsig with uDig-JGrass.
Could you send me some material to check what we should have and what are
the main needs?

We also have some free data released from the public administration of
Merano last november those we put on the OpenStreetMap... there are DTM,
ortophoto, shapefiles and dxf...

Ciao

Silvia

If there are other folks on these list who may be interested to develop the
test on other packages, and would like to take advantage of our experience
with QGIS and setting up a free data set for use in Italy, we will be glad
 to share alike our efforts...
