Re: [slim] any recommendation for Hard Drive Enclosure

2006-05-27 Thread Chris Laplante

I have 5 of the Venus DS3 FIrewire/USB enclosures and have been happy
with them. They work fine on my Fedora FC4 Linux, Mac OSX, and Windows
boxes. It is a safe bet, I am buying them for as long as they are
available. They also have a fan, which many of them don't. They stock
them at Frys if you are near one.

On the flip side, I advise highly against anything from "Metal Gear"

http://shop2.outpost.com/product/4310395?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

What flimsy crap. The construction is shoddy, and the one I had, a
spark jumped from the connector to my mac as I was trying to plugin
the firewire cable. _Not_ the sort of fire I was looking for from a
firewire device... That went back to the store.

[slim] Re: Firmware Change Problems

2006-05-27 Thread Millwood

I believe you can get back by erasing the Firmware subdirectory of the
server and then replacing it with the 6.2.1 Firmware directory. If you
hadn't modified 6.2.1 I'd just say erase the directory and then
reinstall.

If it were me, I'd install 6.2.1 someplace else so I could grab the
firmware directory.

You may have to hold the brightness key down to force a firmware
update.

Someone else may have an easier way. What I've described has worked
for me in the past but YMMV.

[slim] squeezebox causing internet failure

2006-05-27 Thread topcarsales

I suspect that my squeezebox 3 is causing my internet connection to drop
momentarily and then reconnect. If I unplug the SB3 power it seems ok.
but if the SB3 is powered but my qnap ethernet is unplugged then the
problem reoccurs.
I think that the SB3 is pulling down my internet/wifi connection when
it polls the router intermittantly.
Any one else experience anything like this?

NB. So far I have tried changing routers, computers, adsl filters,
ethernet wires, had BT retest my Adsl line. Only thing left is the SB3
(Problem occured before i got the Qnap).

I am very interested in your progress with your convolver plugin.
I think the potential benefits of integrating DRC with SB and

[slim] Firmware Change Problems

2006-05-27 Thread selecttouch

I have had a unwanted firmware change on one of my SB3s. It now it

How do I determine what version firmware it had? and how do I change it

I have 2 other devices [SB2&SB3] that are still working with this
particular slimserver software.
I think the forced firmware upgrade happened when I tried to connect to
one of my slimservers that had been upgraded to version 6.2.5.
Hope this is enough information for someone to formulate a response.

Actually you can specify the directory it will load at startup in Tools
- Options - General - Favorite directory.

Also you can prevent it opening subfolders in the very top checkbox on
that same screen, "Subfolders". Very handy if you have it pointed at
your main music directory as your favorite directory, because that can
take several minutes to load.

Question: Do you have a 770?

- Got it
- Want it
- Need it
- Forget it

Great Skin for a great server of My Audio, all controlled from my
recently acquired Nokia 770.

Coming from the Twonky and TVersity UPnP Server, Cidero UPnP controller
and Philips SL300i UPnP hardware player background, I purchased the
Nokia 770 for increasingly handy control of all my Internet Media,
either at home on my Hi-Fi and TV or on the road directly on the
device. (Been keeping a distant eye on the SlimServer for a while...)

The SlimServer and interface give a very good impression of how things
can be done well on the Nokia 770, with of course the Nokia 770 Skin.

I was up and running within 30 minutes of downloading the
SlimServer_v6.2.2.exe server and then the SlimServer_v2006-05-21.exe
skin/server update

I did not install the latest beta version, as I only quickly glanced at
comments and warnings, what's the latest situation?

Will read up on threads tomorrow.

Thanks ;) :)

[slim] Re: Barix exstreamer

2006-05-27 Thread radish

In cases like this a link is really helpful!

http://www.barix.com/

Anyway, Exstreamer is a player, similar idea to a Squeezebox but with
no display. It should stream from slimserver as an mp3 client just
fine.

Instreamer seems to be the opposite, a hardware audio to mp3 streamer.
I'm not sure how you envisage using this with slimserver but assuming
it puts out a standard stream you should be able to tune into it just
like any other radio station.

A little more detail of what you're trying to achieve might elicit
clearer answers!

First, to have multidiscs sets grouped together as a single album for
browsing, go to into Server Settings, Behavior, and find the 'GROUP
DISCS' setting. Set it to:

'Treat multi-disc sets as a single album'

You'll need to tag your files with a DISCNUMBER tag, then the disc and
track order will be correct.

But playing single discs within a multidisc album can be problematic.
When you organize the discs so that a multidisc album is treated as one
(which most people will want), then you lose the ability to easily play
a whole, single disc within the set. You can either play every single
track on all discs, or else you have to add individual tracks from the
desired disc one at a time.

See and please vote for this enhancement request:

If you mean play back FLAC on a network-connected Squeezebox, of
course.

If you mean play back FLAC on the device itself, you'd have to install
a 3rd party player as the built-in WMP can't. I'm not aware of any
ones that can play FLAC. I thought 'GSPlayer'
(http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA032810/) could, but it only adds Ogg
playback. Perhaps there is such a player out there though.

[slim] Long Pauses between songs

2006-05-27 Thread neil5561

Hi guys,

I have had my Squeezebox for about 2 months now and I really like it.
But the past few days I have been having a new problem that I can't
figure out.

Between songs on a playlist there is a long pause (upwards of 1 minute)
before the next song will play. During this minute the Squeezeboax is
unresponsive, and the server is innaccessable from my computer. When I
start the player from idle with a song it starts right away, it is only
in between songs on a playlist that it does this.

I am currently using Slimserver 6.3, I was using 6.2.2 when this
problem originated, but switched to 6.3 to try and solve it, but that
didn't work.

I checked back about three pages in this forum and the FAQ's and
couldn't find anyone with a similar problem. Can anyone help me?

Thanks,
Neil

Is there a better way? Something like telling the browser of the Nokia

[slim] Re: Multiple CD images into one album, how?

2006-05-27 Thread snarlydwarf

Make sure you set a couple of the tags correctly:

Album should be identical. No (disc 2) type tags.

Add in a DISCNUMBER tag (assuming FLAC, it's TPOS on mp3) that has the
disc number... this will keep the display sorted correctly (ie, so you
can have two track 1's: the discnumber will distinguish them).

In cases where I merge multi-disc sets into one Album, I also make sure
I rename the files to 1-01, 1-02.. 2-01, etc. This keeps them sorted in
the Browse Music Folder and keeps my sanity when just looking at the
files outside of something that reads tags.

The other alternative is to cheat completely: set the album name to be
identical and number the tracks consecutively across albums. Ie, the
2nd disc may start at track 17.

[slim] Is this a slimserver bug or by design? (cue related)

2006-05-27 Thread lovemov

I just realized that, if a cuesheet file contains more than one file
section, slimserver takes the latest one only.
So for example, the following cuesheet will not work in slimserver, it
plays CDImage2.flac for all tracks. But the same cuesheet works fine in
foobar2000 and winamp. Is this a slimserver bug?

[slim] Multiple CD images into one album, how?

2006-05-27 Thread lovemov

CD set, such as operas, has 2-4 CDs per album. I have them ripped as
single flac/cue. They always show up as different albums, even I have
the server behavior set to "Treat multi-disc sets as a single album".
Put all files into one directory does help either. Anyone know how?

[slim] Year tags becoming corrupted :(

2006-05-27 Thread gutted

A while ago, I spent ages updating all my tags to include year. In
fact, more than that, I spent bl00dy ages going through each "Best of"
style complication, and setting each individual track to the correct
date of release.

Beginning to see some corruption in my tags though - SB is supposed to
display the year at the end of the track, or display nothing if no data
exists. But several tracks are popping up that show a year of "(0)".
I've checked these tags, and all data seems to be correct - it's just
that SB (or SS) is reading them wrong (or something).

I recently upgraded to SS 6.2.2. I also recently installed MoodLogic.
I also upgraded all other plugins at same time.

I've tried a complete delete/rescan of the library from within SS. The
only thing I've not yet tried is physically deleting the library from my
hard-drive and letting SS properly rebuild it.

Anyone got any ideas why the year data is beginning to get lost? It
almost seems like it's getting worse - I barely noticed it at all the
other day (so I thought I'd just missed a tag or something). Now I'm
seeing it all over the place :(

dave w - you're definitely not alone on this one. I too have a
2800g/sb3 both with the latest firmware. Much the same as yourself I
have the same symtoms, ie constant association/disassociation from the
router, with or without WEP.

I also have a call open with Draytek in the UK. They have the 3rd
level support person involved from Taiwan but hasn't been much help at
the moment, response:

They want to send through a 2600g to me to test with, but I think we
all know that this won't really accomplish much.

seanadams, would you be in a position to loan a "test unit" to Draytek?
please let me know and I will get the contact details from the engineer
in Taiwan.

Thanks
Harvi

I got the deb of the 12.17.9 sox version from the Debian web site and

Thanks for the pointers.

I have this problem too. I'm running on Ubuntu 5.10, and
apt-get only seems to offer 12.17.7-2. Anyone know where
I can find a deb or source for the newer sox?

Thanks,

Glenn.

[slim] No Sound from the Squeezebox

2006-05-27 Thread Stuk

Hi all,
I've just set up my first Squeezebox, and after some trial and error,
got it wirelessly connected.

But: Although it is completely connected, and the equaliser animation
plays correctly (when compared to a linked softsqueeze), no sound is
coming out. This is both through the red/white and headphone
connectors. Found this
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24075 , so I've emailed
tach support. Just want to see if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks in advance, Stu
