Hi Louis lrossouw;156559 Wrote: Does anyone foresee issues with this. I.e. JVC/sony frequencies right. Can i have two IRBlasters doing different things and sending different codes? Etc. Can IRBlaster respond to SB3 power up from alarm? JVC and Sony both use 'standard' frequencies (at least the devices I own do), so IR Blaster should be fine. When you install IR Blaster plugin an additional settings page is added for each of your players. So, yes, you can have two players sending out different codes. When I last tested it, IR Blaster responded to power up from alarm. lrossouw;156559 Wrote: So I have found the following locally: http://www.tivosales.co.za/single-head-emitterblaster-p-36.html?osCsid=6f14c68659c05e19cdd231da577f741e Question 2: Is this the right thing? Will this work with IR Blaster plugin? Can i go ahead and buy 2? It looks ok to me, but it's hard to tell for sure. Cheers Felix -- fcm4711 Everyone said: This cannot be done. [slim] I'm pissed and disappointed in SD
I've logged a bug into the bug system. I even called the support desk and talked to a live person regarding the issue that I have streaming an internet radio. First some background. I was able to stream the same url and a similar one in version 5.?? and 6.0. The urls stopped working during one of the many nightlies of 6.0 and still isn't working in 6.5.1. Now the reason I'm pissed at SD; After logging the bug and talking to their support people I get an email or two, telling me that the issue is a duplicate and that I should use the same fix that I mentioned in my comment of the duplicate. I figure dummy me!! I Forgot that I did figure it out the last time. So I attempted to do exactly what I said in the comment I posted. Did it work? NO!! Am I pissed that it didn't work? No I'm PISSED because tech support was too lazy to test the so-called fix before they emailed me telling me it was a dupe of another issue and for me to do what I said I did when I originally posted the bug many months ago. People, SD et all, this is basic functionality. If it didn't work in the beginning I would never have purchased the hardware. This is very poor customer service and they need to get their act together. I've worked in the tech industry for over 20 years, developer and account manager and what just happened is totally unacceptable. I know people are dying in Iraq and this is a minor issue when compared with other things in the world, but please don't send me an email telling me to do something that doesn't work and it hasn't been tested. Enough... [slim] quick way to enter WPA password?
Hi, I have a 64-character (hex) WPA2 password that I need to enter into a bunch of SB3s. Is the only way to do it with the remote control? Is there a faster way than cycling through the characters on the remote's keypad? That is pure geek. I love the wall mounting! One thing to note, I've noticed much better sound using the RCA plugs vs. the headphone jack using any sort of small amp. [slim] Re: quick way to enter WPA password?
Yeah, me too - I decided to make things harder for a dictionary attacker by using capitalization, punctuation, letters, numbers and misspelling. I suspect I only made it harder on myself. No, there are no shortcuts. Thankfully you don't have to do it all that often. If you haven't discovered it already, a time saver is that when you get your character, you can just press the next button to enter the next character, you don't have to scroll right. But if it's a character mapped to the same number you either have to scroll or wait for the cursor to advance. In my case, I'm doing this with a universal remote that doesn't show letter mapping with the numbers, so the first 5-6 characters are wild guesses. BTW there was a recent post that referenced a blog where the blogger insisted that 10 characters was good enough. I'm still using a 63-character passphrase though. I'm curious - you say a bunch of SB3s. How many? Are you getting into whole-house Squeezeboxing? :-) -- Mark Lanctot Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29934 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: quick way to enter WPA password?
Well, I fibbed. I only have two SB3s right now, and I'm lucky enough to have some of my house wired with CAT5e, so only one of those two SB3s uses its wifi connection right now. The reason I fibbed is that I thought it would be easier than explaining that I periodically change my WPA pre-shared key every month or so. I don't do that because I'm paranoid; I do it because I hack my linksys wifi router all the time, and usually end up having to reset it and/or reflash it every month. You'd think I'd learn to save the AES pre-shared key and reuse it each time, but I haven't learned that lesson yet. -- grimholtz 'Get PasswordMaker' (https://passwordmaker.org/) 'Get FoxyProxy' (http://foxyproxy.mozdev.org/) 'Read one of my books' (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1861005202/102-7541338-1644948) grimholtz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5235 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29934 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: quick way to enter WPA password?
I wrote a little program which generates random passwords. My WPA key is 10 chars (lower case + numbers) which is really perfectly secure and much easier to type. EDIT: Oh and write it on a post-it attached to the router. If the wannabe intruder can read it, you've got bigger problems :) -- radish radish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=77 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29934 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Then please feel free to reopen and leave a comment explaining why you feel that is it NOT the mms streaming issue. At the very least, make note that your own suggested workaround no longer works. Disagree all you want, but fuming about it doesn't get anything closer to working. d_source, d_http_async, d_remotestream and d_directstream logs just might. Your other option is to contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] and get them to open a support ticket on it. Then someone there will be trying to reproduce it as well. You have the tools. Use them as you see fit. -kdf -- kdf kdf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29931 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Skin Breaks SlimServer!
I downloaded and installed 6.5.whatever it is today. (I'm not on that computer just now.) Install went OK, scan went OK, didn't seem too long or anything. Then I was fiddling with the skins. I set default2, and not only was it really odd looking, it got 404s trying to set a different skin. I searched around to see if I could find where it remembers default2 but couldn't find where to set it back manually. Re-installed, and it was still broken. Finally deleted all the folders I could (mysql was locked, and some others), and reinstalled, and it's back. Also, this time, default2 doesn't seem to be offered. No problem there, I wasn't planning to try it again. Just thought folks would like to know. Any useful hints will be appreciated. Until the player is able to get on the network, there's not much it can do - such as cloning another player's settings or pulling the password from the server. I'ts a bit of chicken and egg. At least the password entry has gotten _much_ better with the newer versions of the firmware, though there's still some room for improvement. I've filed a number enhancement requests for data entry on the Squeezebox, some of which have been addressed. One of them that hasn't been implemented yet is that the data entry uses non-fixed width characters. This causes the display to jump all over the damned place when entering long passwords. -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29934 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
