Re: [slim] How do I remove Slimserver completely?
Slimserver install on windows creates a service to handle the starting of the MySQL database. I guess that this service hangs around after the uninstall. For Windows 2000/XP based installations, you can use the sc.exe command to stop and delete the mysqld service installed by slimserver. sc query SlimServerMySQL sc stop SlimServerMySQL sc delete SlimServerMySQL Not sure if sc.exe is included in the reduced functionality set of XP Media Center edition. If it is, use the above steps to remove the service, and then delete the directory that could not be removed. If it is not.. [slim] Can't connect to Slimserver
Hi I'm having real trouble working out why my SB3 is so tempremental. I think I have two issues. Firstly the SB can't always find slimserver running from my PC. SServer is running from system tray on startup but I just can't view the slimserver page on my machine using local host or ip address. (I've been running ipconfig to see if IP is changing). What's going on? The second problem is that SB3 can't find the squeezenetwork when the PC is off. This doesn't make sense to me at all. The dsiplay hangs for a bit then goes blank and becomes unresponsive to the remote. I'm running 6.5.2. Help please! That requires using the remote, but once it's done, you never have to deal with it again. -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33528 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

The signal strength listed is 100% as since I am troubleshooting, it is in the same room as the router. And I don't think it is a microwave / cordless as this is persistent, regardless of their use. There are no other wireless networks in the area of any noticeable signal strength. > Does your router have a function that shows what wireless clients are > connected and does it ever show the Squeezebox as connected? The router does see the Squeezebox as connected. I am using WPA2 Personal, and nothing has changed on my network from when it worked originally. It is perplexing since I haven't changed anything recently, it goes through the wireless connection steps without a problem, just hangs on connecting. Connecting the ethernet on the same network with the same server works. Re: [slim] Connecting to Slimserver at Work
First off make sure there aren't any firewall settings that are interfering with the connection. If you have port forwarding set in your router (correctly) you either have a firewall problem or aren't allowing hosts other than localhost to connect. I don't know exactly where that setting is but somebody else will surely point you to you. For listening to the stream.mp3 the only port you need open is 9000. Be sure to point your media player to http://your_ip_address:9000/stream.mp3 or it won't work. If you want to setup an ssh tunnel it's not scary, but takes a little bit of work. Google for OpenSSH for Windows and you'll find what you need. There are some tutorials on how to configure it also. If you go that route install SoftSqueeze at work and stream that way through the SSH tunnel which SoftSqueeze can be configured for. That's how I do it from work... [slim] Connecting to Slimserver at Work
Dear All, Having just become a convert to SS, I also would like to listen to music at work. I have had a go browsing the forums, but I seem to have spent a good few hours and I'm not really any nearer what it is I need to do. My Setup: SS running on my PC at Home (Windows XP Media Center) PC Connected to DSL router -> 8MB connection SS runs fine in my home, all my local PC's run Softsqueeze. I have tried to use winamp to play music via http://My_Home_PC_IP/stream.mp3 but all I get a timeout on the connection. If I try and look at SS from work via http://My_Home_PC_IP:9000 I get an error Connection Refused Things I 'think' in need to do : Portforward 9000 (and the other port) to my router Check blocked ports at work (22 is open 443 isn't) I will try these things out, but is there anything else I need to do? I read about an SSH tunnel - but that kinda sounds scary. If it gets as far as connecting to SlimServer, that means your wireless encryption settings are good. However your IP address might not be. Are you getting it by DHCP or is it static? Re: [slim] slim.exe --d_startup? What does it say?
The message "here is already another copy of the SlimServer running on this machine." is produced when slimserver cannot open UDP port 3483 and it is reasonable to assume that it is another slimserver but slimserver does not in fact check the process list for "slim.exe". If when you are trying to run slimserver and you get the "another copy of Slimserver" messages - just check the ProcessExplorer main window on the left hand side and see if there is a Slim.exe process running - and if so who is the owning process. If there is no Slim.exe running then you need to find out who is using port 3483 and kill that process - it may be the SB is keeping the TCP connection alive even though the "listening" process has died. To find the process open a cmd prompt and issues the command "netstat -ab" and look for port 3483 -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33536 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] How do I remove Slimserver completely?
If you can't delete mysqld.exe then the process mysqld.exe must almost certainly be running. Have another look in Task Manager. Make sure you are seeing all running processes. Kill it if/when you find it. FYI (and any others): To completely remove SlimServer 6.5.1 and 6.5.2 from Windows 2000/XP etc it is best to: * Stop the SlimServer process (right click on tray icon and select Stop SlimServer). * Remove Slimserver program via Windows Add/Remove Programs. * Go to Task Manager and ensure that all slim related processes are not listed (i.e. mysqld.exe, slim.exe or slimtray.exe). If any are listed right click on them and select "End Process". * Then go to your installation directory (by default: C:\Program Files\SlimServer and delete it. All done. Note: The usual problem with deletion is that the Windows SlimServer uninstal program has a bug and does not (cannot?) stop the MySQL daemon and so the file mysqld.exe cannot be deleted and neither can the directories containing it. Re: [slim] How do I remove Slimserver completely?
You should first stop slimserver via SlimTray or Service control panel. Then Check in the Services control panel that Mysqld services is stopped and disabled as SlimTray does not always stop the MySqld service. Then run the Slimserver uninstall Then delete the Slimserver directory. If you are brave you can then delete the remaining Slimserver entries in the registry. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32880 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] How do I remove Slimserver completely?
Something to try. Check to see if the mysqld.exe process is still running. Stopping the SlimServerMySQL service will stop it, otherwise use "End process" thru Windows Task Manager to kill it. Now delete the files. -- Greg Erskine Greg Erskine's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7403 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32880 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

They live in separate directories under my top level music directory. One called mp3 and once called flac. Slimserver is pointing at the flac directory but it is picking up some albums from the mp3 directory as well. Don't even know why it should be looking there? Re: [slim] albums listed twice
Hi Well, I found what is happening - looks like a bug to me: I have 2 copies of my music stored on my terastation. One copy in flac, the other in mp3. They are stored in different directories and i've set the slimserver music folder to be the /flac directory. However, the duplicate albums are where slimserver has (seemingly randomly) also picked up the same version of the album from the mp3 directory...?! I've done a complete music folder rescan and the problem is still there. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Or is it a bug? Many thanks Jimmy -- jimmy jimmy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=616 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33526 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Are the Black/Silver Squeezeboxes Discontinued?
peterw;187188 Wrote: > Slim has announced that the gear will have the Logitech logos very > soon: > http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=169090&postcount=32 Maybe this makes some kind of sense, if Logitech's intention is to retain the Slim Devices brand name for the Transporter (and other future high-end devices). If they want to shift the Squeezebox in high numbers through big chain stores, then the average man in the street may well be happier with the Logitech brand they know than with this unknown company "Slim Devices". But if the intention is to also rebrand the Transporter as Logitech, then I am convinced that would be a big marketing gaffe. Example: when Philips owned Marantz in the 80s and 90s, they were fully aware of the fact that the way to get their higher end stuff accepted in the marketplace was to brand it as Marantz. Sales would have been much lower with a Philips badge. -- cliveb Performers -> dozens of mixers and effects -> clipped/hypercompressed mastering -> you think a few extra ps of jitter matters? cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33514 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
