Hi Okijames, I've been using MusicIP Mixer. All you need to do is create the playlist, save it and then copy the file to the location specified in SlimServer. Nice and easy. http://www.musicip.com -- givendale givendale's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10161 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35219 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Looking for a better way to create playlists
No offense but creating playlists via Slimserver is laborious. The webUI just isn't very responsive for this activity, and is missing ease of use features like drag-n-drop addition of songs. Am I missing something, or is that just the way it is? I previously used iTunes to create playlists, but recently had my CD collection ripped to FLAC, so iTunes is no longer an option. Can Slimserver use playlists created on another tool, with similar speed and ease of use? A huge plus would have this tool also integrate with iPods. Right now I transcode all my FLAC files to MP3s in a separate directory for iTunes/iPod use. With all this fuss, I am seriously considering transcoding everything to Apple lossless. Is this the ultimate format for someone with a Transporter and an iPod? Any chance of Apple possibly supporting FLAC on iTunes/iPod? That makes sense as Vista locks downs the Program Files folder. Great thinking though! However, SS should be updated so that it works in this folder I think. Re: [slim] Slimserver Problems running on Windows Vista
What version of Vista are you running? Home Premium What version of Slimserver have you installed? 6.5.2 I have a new HP Laptop and have 6.5.2 working great. I found that installing it in its own directory of C: works much better than putting it in C:\program files\slimserver\slimserver. I created C:\myprograms and installed it there. SlimServer starts my Laptop joins my wireless netwok and works flawlessly. I will say that it did not work the first two times I installed it in C:\program files. It would work right off the bat but once I power down my machine, and turn it on the next day. It would not work. Anyway, for those who are having problems. Please try what I did above. I hope it works for you. Re: [slim] at my wit's end with SB3
My router is the only device set up as the DHCP. The modem just connects to the internet when the router tells it to (PPPoE). I have replaced the Linksys BEFSR81 with the DLink DGL 4100. There do not seem to be any address conflicts. I took everything off the network and connected the modem to the router, my PC to the router, and the SB3 to the router (no switch and no other devices). No changes in the problem. I don't know how I would go about seeing my modem statistics while it is connected to my router. I am going to try to contact my ISP (centurytel) and see if they can watch my traffic while I connect the SB. My DSL speed is advertised as 1.5M down and 650ish up. When the SB is not connected and my connection is running good I can get speeds of 1200-1500 down and 400-500 up pretty reliably on dslreports and speedtest. After the SB connects I get upload speeds around 300-400 and uploads around 300. That is if I can stay connected long enough for the test to complete. I recently changed the setting in slimserver to stop checking for updates automatically. Maybe this will help (?) This is an awful lot of futzing around for a consumer electronics device :-) I am thinking about just getting a big ole iPod and scraping this whole streaming music business. Anyway, thanks everyone for your ideas and help. -- koozino koozino's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11464 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35065 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] SS Startup Behavior
One of the recent nightly updates (don't know which one) seems to have changed the way SlimServer loads on system startup. It used to be that when I booted up my pc, the tray icon indicated that Slimserver was running. At that point SS was running in the background without the web interface being open in my browser. Now, each time I boot up, in addition having the tray icon indicate that SS is running, SS opens up in a browser window. Can I get back to having SS run only in the background without opening up in the web browser? I seldom control the SB3 from the PC and don't often need to open the web interface. Current SS version: 6.5.2 - 11903 Player firmware: 81 I could just go back to an earlier version of the software, but then I'd lose whatever inprovements/fixes are included in the current updates. Hello, i have been running Slimserver (v6.5.1) on Windows Vista without problem for over a month but in the last couple of days all internet radio has stopped working. I have spent some time looking through the forums but sadly have found no resolution to the problem. I have ensured that my firewall is not blocking communication to the best of my knowledge. I should also add that the alienbbc test program operates correctly when executed on the computer. I have enabled debugging and receive the following error when the SB tries to play any of the slim devices picks... There may or may not be with any realtime continuous backup tool though. Actually Vista has some of that functionality built in. Re: [slim] Should I upgrade to Vista?
I agree with prior posts. Vista has been well worth while. I upgraded 3 machines, home desktop (ripping station). Laptop and Desktop at work doing windows developement. All running great. Vista is highly recommended if you like playing with the latest. I've had no resource issues but I shut off a couple "background" "helpers" (indexing etc.). You can shut off the a the "annoyances" UAC etc. if you want. I prefer it on to keep piece of mind. You learn what programs obey the rules and what don't. I have not run Slimserver on vista yet becuase that machine may not be supported and is not all that fast or that much memory. All it does is Slimserver so I didn't bother. I wouldn't expect any show stopper problems. There are solutions for most compatibility problems. So far out of many many apps I use for work and fun 2 are crippled but still are usable. Wavelab Lite file dialog crashes on Vista (very old application). Still usable by opening files via right click on file and never using save as (just save). The other application is Meridian Audio configuration program. Has a bug recording XML data when recording Room Correction data. It does not terminate the Base64 block correctly which I can hand repair. -- mswlogo mswlogo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9090 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35158 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Odd SB3 Power On Problem After Firmware Update
I have been running SB3 for a while from SlimServer 6.5.1 on my computer. I recently purchased a QNAP TS-101 NAS and moved my music files to it. Because I had heard that there were some issues with SlimServer 6.5.1 on the NAS I installed 6.3.1 from the Progressive site. When I did that, as expected, the SB3 updated its firmware. I normally use a Logitech Harmony 895 remote to control everything and this has been working ok until after the SB3 firmware update. The Harmony remote no longer automatically turns on power to the SB3 but the SB3 remote itself works ok. Oddly enough the Harmony remote Power toggle device command does manually toggle power on and off. I have tried reprogramming the appropriate activites on the remote on the off chance that the failure was a remote problem and a coincidence and not with the SB3 but there is no change in behavoir. The situation does not makre sense to me but if it does to anyone else help would be much appreciated. -- Robert Vivian Robert Vivian's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10979 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35205 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

In which case I for one am confused. "What" is able to locate the songs? 1 - from your Windows machine, you open up a browser and point it to the slimserver machine:9000 you can see that slimserver is running, and browse your songs? If so this proves that slimserver is running, which is a good start. 2 - The TP, if I understand correctly, is failing to find the slimserver? If so you'll have an unresponsive TP (except when you connect to SqueezeNetwork), and also it won't be showing up in the Slimserver web interface (the right hand side of the screen will be saying something to the effect that you don't have a player connected...) If I've understood correctly then something is stopping the two from talking to each other. It seems unlikely to be the router since you will have proved that both the slimserver and the TP are able to connect to the network. It might be a slimserver setting - through the web interface go to Server Settings / Security /Block Incoming Connections, set to "do not block". You might also want to try installing Softsqueeze on your Windows PC and see if you can get that talking to Slimserver. If it doesn't, you might want to confirm that there is no firewall on the QNAP getting in the way, or at least if there is that the rightports are opened.
