[slim] Brand new Squeezebox supplied with used/faulty ac lead (UK)
Well, ordered my first SB3 on Sunday 30th Sept from DataKits and it arrived yesterday. That's the good news. The bad news is that whle the SB3 and remote APPEAR to be as new the mains lead certainly does not appear to be. It has what looks like magnolia paint on both the plug and the cable and it also has scratches on the plug, as if someone has taken a screwdriver to it (albeit there are no signs of it being opened)!!! The other question it also raises is whether I can be confident the SB3 is new and not a refurb or whatever and is not also used or damaged in some way. It may well be that the power unit was dispatched in that condition although that seems less likely, if it was there is a QC issue somewhere. That said, the outer box was hard to open, as if it had not been opened before. I've phoned Data Kits and left a message on their answerphone, tried their webchat (no agent available) and mailed them 3 times. I await their reply. One way or another I have been sold something which is either used, a refurb or subject to some poor QC. One way or another this WILL get sorted and I have advised my credit card company to deal with this if the need arises. I have also mailed Logitech Customer support and one of the guys has already kindly offered to supply a new lead if the re-seller won't sort it. My only concern though is that I'm not sure I can be confident that the SB3 itself is OK. Not sure what kind of a reputation Data Kits but I'm certainly not at all impressed!! -- Empgamer Empgamer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12652 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=38982 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Wireless SB3 keeps crashing
Is it a full reset, like a poweroff? Try using the wallwart from the SB2 and see if that makes it work... perhaps something died in the SB3's wallwart that makes it unstable. If that fixes it, it isn't hard to find a replacement. Since you see the same thing wired and wireless, I wouldn't blame the router or wireless: wired ethernet is pretty well understood and router makers would have to work hard to screw it up to make things break, and since it is the same on an SB2 and SB3, I wouldn't expect a compatability problem. -- snarlydwarf snarlydwarf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1179 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=38867 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

what you just described sounds like when you're starting SS. what i am saying is it happens whether or not SS is already started. and yeah, i've tried waiting a few minutes, and doing the systray again. it just sits. but everytime i've tried using the 192.x url, it goes there immediately without hesitation. for instance, i just tried now. SS has been loaded for hours. double click the icon, no dice. go to 192, i'm in. i know the old systray app had problems trying to get IE to SS before it was ready, (i reported a bug on it in fact) but afaik, bpa fixed that issue, and thats not whats happening here. -- MrSinatra www.LION-Radio.org Using: Squeezebox2 w/SS 6.5.5 (beta!?) - Win XP Pro SP2 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - D-Link DIR-655 MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=38972 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

It appears to use ALBUMARTIST over ARTIST, when available. Here's an example from a test I just ran (FLAC files, all tracks tagged identically on the album): I had the following album tagged as: ALBUM=Neck and Neck ARTIST=Mark Knoplfler ARTIST=Chet Atkins then I retagged it: ALBUM=Neck and Neck ARTIST=Mark Knoplfler ARTIST=Chet Atkins ALBUMARTIST=Mark Knopfler Tagged the first way, it showed up sorted under Chet Atkins, with the artist displayed as 'Mark Knopfler, Chet Atkins'. After retagging, it shows up sorted under Mark Knopfler and the artist displayed is now just 'Mark Knopfler'. That's pretty much how I'd want it. With two artists but no clear ALBUMARTIST, it's any one's guess which should be used to sort. I suppose SlimServer might sort them into order, then use the first one, or it might be random, or the first one that is read from the file. The effective ALBUMARTIST is 'Chet Atkins & Mark Knopfler'. But when there's an explicit ALBUMARTIST, it's used both for sorting and for the artist displayed in the album's byline. > for instance on the billy joel box set, on CD3 there is a track with > both billy joel and ray charles performing together. > > should artist for that track be billy joel, and albumartist be 'billy > joel / ray charles.'? Exactly the opposite. It's a Billy Joel album, so he's the album aritst, but he and Ray are both artists on the track. TITLE=... ARTIST=Billy Joel ARTIST=Ray Charles ALBUMARTIST=Billy Joel > i just switched it to that, to see what SS will do with it now; but b4 > it was reversed, and so SS put the whole CD3 under various artists b/c > of that. It might be required that you have an explicit COMPILATION=0 tag to avoid the album being marked as a compilation. I tried resetting to factory defaults, and I have also tried a wired connection and still experience resets and loss of power or stalling between track transitions. Support suggest I should therefore send it back to them for repair (out of warranty cost: $90, plus shipping). I was wondering if there were any UK sources for repairs (I thought being part of Logitech was meant to provide better support in this area). I don't want to RMA it for SlimDevices to not find a fault (there could be a problem with compatibility with my router, which support haven't got). So I'm thinking that I'll persevere a bit longer with fault-finding. I might try replacing socketwrapper.exe (if that would have any effect), and removing all plugins. I'm not expecting to find anything that is causing the problem, as the SB2 works perfectly. It's almost worth buying a new unit, and ebaying the old one. I wouldn't agree and that is not how it works for me: The soundtrack to "I'm Your Man," a documentary on Leonard Cohen, has tags like: TPE1 (Lead performer(s)/Soloist(s)): Martha Wainwright TPE2 (Band/orchestra/accompaniment): Leonard Cohen My 'Server/Behavior' setting for that is: Code: (X) Group compilation albums together Albums that contain songs that are tagged with a band may be listed under that band name or with the other artists for that album. The band tag is also known as TPE2 and may appear as the "album artist" in some software. See, I want that album to show up as Cohen, even if he only has one track on it: it is effectively a tribute to him, so it should be under his name. Did you set the 'group compilation' flag? That seems to me to be the most logical setting, but the choice is yours. Re: [slim] Problems with Multiple albums with same name
>From what I can gather though (testing this out across a number of players etc) 'Album Artist' need rarely be used generally but if it is I tend to opt for the same as as the Artist (e.g. David Bowie). Where the album comprises multiple tracks by different artists the use of Various Artists, in the Album Artisst) only field works fine for me, the individual artist is still tagged, and therefore searchable, in the Artist field. Using this approach I can search either the album name in album view (in a variety of players) and for individual artists by track. I would not use Various Artists under both fields (Album Artist and Artist) as this effectively deletes who the actual artist is and there is no way of finding the info on screen then (did this a few times when experimenting with options). This approach uses Various Artists as well as, not instead of, Artist as a means on bunching multi artist album tracks together properly. I use dBpowerAMP Reference to rip CDs in FLAC and iTunes (once converted) to play MP3s on the Ipod. Both of these give access to the editing you need to do for this (DBPA upon ripping and iTunes in the Get Info field). Re: [slim] Problems with Multiple albums with same name
The easiest way to have compilaton albums displayed properly is to put all files in the same directory. You cannot just assume that a common album title is sufficient to group tracks from different directories together. I have three albums called "The Antidote" by three different artists that I want to keep as seperate albums in SS! SS also groups tracks together if they are in different directories but have a common album title and the discnumber tag set. This behaviour has nothing to do with compilations however. It is intended to present multi disc albums as one single album where each disc is in its own subdirectory. I think you need to have "Treat multi-disc sets as single album" set for this to work. This behaviour could be abused for compilations. If someone wants to try: Set the discnumber tag on all tracks to 1, rescan and see if it is recognized as one album. It seems that a common albumartist and album tag on tracks in different directories also groups them together (as reported by Empgamer). Personally I wouldn't recommend this solution if there isn't actually a valid album artist. "Various artist" isn't an artist really, is it? -s. -- slimpy slimpy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1524 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=38931 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Mike, Contact your local PA Hire company. They should be able to hire you something suitable. Domestic gear is *not* suitable. Where are you based? [slim] SB3 as wireless access point?
Is it possible for me to configure my SB3 as a w.a.p? I am using the SB wirelessly already. My house is long and narrow, my wireless router is at one end, the SB in the middle. If i want to use my laptop at the other end of the house (or even better, past the house out in the garage/theatre) it'd be nice to connect to the network via the SB as the signal will be stronger, is this possible? Cheers... -- madori madori's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13417 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=38956 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

When I set it to 50 (default) i don't see all the albums. That's not a problem but the problem is you cannot go to the second page where the rest of the albums are? -- jordi.c jordi.c's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12402 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=38936 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Send an email to Support directly. There is a chance that they still have some spare parts. Thats not too bad for a device that is between 2 1/2 and 4 years old i don't think. -- funkstar funkstar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2335 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=38946 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Slimserver Problems running on Windows Vista
First of all let me say how helpful this forum is and that i've tried most things on this thread to resolve my particular problem. I just installed slimserver 6.5.4 on my pc with Vista Ultimate. However I notice that the slimserver service always shows 'starting' rather than started. The slimsql service is started. I can stop the service by properties, disable and reboot machine. If i restart the service it just goes back to a never ending 'starting' status. I've tried installing by administrator into a folder outside of program files and also switching off Windows firewall and antivirus etc to no avail. I haven't yet tried a different earlier version of slimserver but 6.5.4 is supposed to be Vista compatible right ? any ideas welcome as I'm lost without it Gazza -- Gazza Gazza's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9117 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32578 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Problems with Multiple albums with same name
I had similar problems with some album rips a few days ago. Down to the tagging of the tracks I believe. Not sure what you used to rip them but I got round it by editing the tracks in a block and amending the 'album artist' part to read 'Various Artists', leaving the 'artist' label (e.g. track artist) as it was. This worked for me and after a re-scan bunched all those tracks up under the one album name. Hope this helps. -- Empgamer Empgamer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12652 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=38931 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
