Re: [slim] SqueezeCenter Interface problems

2008-03-17 Thread markwm

Ok, I've totally uninstalled SC and then reinstalled, that seems to have
fixed the menu problem. Previously I installed over the top of an old
SC.

However, the loading issue remains. It always sticks on the last item '
completed 98 of 99 items'. Also, the item number just keeps on
increasing. Do you get this as well?

Well, okay, it could modify playlists, but I create my playlists
outside of SC and just read them.

Would be curious to know how other WHS users are doing it, so I hope
 you get more input.

I use the UNC path for both the music folder and the playlists, I
understand that WHS will not work properly if you use non-UNC paths to
access the files, something to do with the duplication.

[slim] A quick question of SoftSqueeze

2008-03-17 Thread amey01

I loaded SoftSqueeze on an old laptop (XP, PIII, 128MB RAM) and
connected it to the same server as my Transporter and SB3.

Both the TP and SB3 work faultlessly, but the SoftSqueeze box stammers

the quality of streaming in SoftSqueeze limited by the computer it is

Maybe a fault has suddenly developed somewhere.

Maybe you have made some changes you haven't mentioned.

My experience is that this happens from time to time after my computer
wakes from sleep.

And is solved immediately by pressing and holding Power, pressing UP
(to move from Setup Networking to Connect to Server) and pressing
Right, when the SB goes through the connection process and ends up
connected.

My details are as follows:

Windows XP Media Edition

Currently trying ACC R5

ODBC settings are:
Datasource name Squeezecenter
Server Localhost
User Squeezecenter

This part ap[pears to be working as I get a successful connection.

When I try to run ACC I get error number 3716 and a message saying

Can anyone give me an idea what next to try?

The IP address of the server in the SB should be the IP address of the

The gateway IP address should be the address of the router - this is

Re: [slim] Used to connect remotely, now I can't

2008-03-17 Thread bobkoure

As best as I can tell from 'SlimProtoTCPProtocol'
(http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?SlimProtoTCPProtocol), which I
just found :) you need to NAT TCP3843 and TCP9000 inbound to the server
and NAT UDP3843 inbound to the client. (I've asked in the developers'
forum to see if I got this right)

I'd suggest you go to one of the remote machines you're trying to
connect to and try to telnet to your server on port 3848 - then type
-HELO- and see if you get anything back. If you do, and you can get to
the web interface at port 9000, then you probably have server-inbound
connectivity.

I don't have any great ideas about testing the UDP3848 from the server
to the client - sorry...

[slim] Artist sort question

2008-03-17 Thread mlsstl

I'm having a sort problem when viewing artists alphabetically.

The vast majority of artists are sorted by the first name if they are
tagged that way. However, the odd artist here and there shows up by
last name.

Janis Ian is not in the Js but is in the I section next to Ian Hunter.
Joni Mitchell is not in the Js, but in the Ms.

Norah Jones is not in the Ns, but in the Js. Otis Redding is not in the
Os but the Rs.

I don't spot any particular pattern that would explain that. The
tagging info seems OK. I searched the forum and the wiki for similar
problems but didn't note anything helpful.

I'm using Squeezecenter 7 on a Linux box (FC8) and everything else is
running smoothly.

Any thoughts?

Re: [slim] When Duet controller can support Chinese Characters ??

2008-03-17 Thread tomb

One way to get CJK (or any other character set) to work on the Duet is
to supply the necessary fonts yourself, replacing the shipped font.

I just tried this, and it (kinda) works.

Requirements:
* scp (Secure CoPy) installed (I happen to have Cygwin on my Windows
installation, which comes with a scp)
* a font which support your desired character set - let's assume it's
c:\windows\fonts\simhei.ttf

Preparation:
1. enable remote access on the Duet remote (Settings-Advanced-Remote
Login-Enable SSH) - it will tell you the remote's IP, I assume
192.168.1.3 for the example
2. open a console (cygwin or otherwise)
3. cd c:\windows\fonts

Backup of original fonts:
1. scp [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/share/jive/fonts/FreeSans.ttf
FreeSans.ttf
2. enter password (1234)
3. scp [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/share/jive/fonts/FreeSansBold.ttf
FreeSansBold.ttf

Installation of CJK-enabled font (simhei in this example):
1. scp simhei.ttf [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/share/jive/fonts/FreeSans.ttf
2. enter passwowrd (1234)
3. scp simhei.ttf
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/share/jive/fonts/FreeSansBold.ttf
4. enter passwowrd (1234)
5. restart the remote

After this you will notice that the menu font looks different, as it's
using simhei now.

I noticed that the italic portions (such as when looking at song info)
doesn't work right, there's a mess of pixels. However, in the Now
Playing screen, it's just fine - or at least looks fine to me, I don't
read Chinese ;)

Thanks for the replys guys.

I do happen to have limited perl experience. Enough to be dangerous as
they say.

How is this for a hack around. (not necessarily based on fact)
Turn on some logging that logs the connecting of clients.
Watch that output for GSPLAYER
Match GSPLAYER and grab the IP (and port?) I'm coming from.
Use CLI to send the commands needed load a playlist and play it.

Getto as Getto gets but if that possible then maybe it could be refined
and built as a plugin.

Does this sound doable. not pretty but doable.

[slim] Used to connect remotely, now I can't

2008-03-17 Thread Liam Obrien

Hello,
I've been running SlimServer for the past few years, and have never had
any trouble connecting to it remotely. Recently I changed the OS on my
server to MythDora, which necessitated that I redownload Slim software.
The download link led me to SqueezeCenter, which seemed to install
without incident. Unfortunately, one of these 2 changes (new OS or
switch to SqueezeCenter) is preventing me from connecting remotely from
computers outside of my firewall. As long as I'm behind my router
firewall, I can connect to SqueezeCenter with no problem using
localhost:9000, serverIP:9000, or dydns_example.com:9000 (mercifully,
my SqueezeBox is working fine). I am forwarding ports 3483TCP, 3483UDP
and 9000TCP to my server's IP address. I believe that the firewall and
SELinux in MythDora are disabled; also, IP blocking in SqueezeCenter is
set to Do not block. I'm hoping someone here might have some thoughts
as to what I am doing wrong? I do have one question related to port
forwarding, I'm using a linksys router with stock firmware, and on the
port forwarding configuration page it asks for an application in
addition to the port range, protocol, and IP address. Does it matter
what I put in the application box? Currently it says SlimServer, but
maybe I need to update this to reflect the change to SqueezeCenter? If
so, what do I change it to? SqueezeCenter is too many characters, and
changing it to Squeeze didn't solve the problem. I've tried looking at
the wiki, but the instructions still reference SlimServer; also, looked
through the recent forum posts, but didn't see one that pertained to
this problem exactly.
Thanks.

[slim] When Duet controller can support Chinese Characters ??

2008-03-17 Thread kingkimo

Sigh !! My SB3 can display Chinese perfectly but on the new Duet
controller all my chinese songs' characters displayed like garbage.
It's so pity that the new Duet can't support Chinese. Is there anyone
know why Duet did not follow SB3 ? when will the controller support
Chinese ?

[slim] Kitchen radio Squeezebox?

2008-03-17 Thread ThomP

I don't know if this is the right forum for a feature request - or
rather a hardware request...

I am wondering why I can't find a complete Squeezebox; receiver,
amplifier and speaker(s) all in one unit.

It doesn't have to be Hi-Fi or even stereo - just a small unit to
replace the small DAB/FM radios many of us have in the kitchen,
bathroom or other places where separate amplifier and speakers might be
overkill.

Am i the only one who would like such a device? I realise it would be
more expensive than the Squeezebox Receiver, but since I can buy a
FM/DAB radio with built-in WiFi and streaming features at the same
price it can't be much more expensive to add the right protocol...

[slim] Squeezebox won't let me type in a WPA key and reboot

2008-03-17 Thread Coume

Hello,

I have been using my squeezebox with my netgear router (WEP) without
any problem but I moved to a new flatshare this week-end and I can't
get my squeezebox to connect to this new network.

The home network uses a Sky Router with WPA encryption. When I start my
Squeezebox, it does find the network and I can select it. But for
whatever reason, when my squeezebox prompts for the WPA password, I
cannot enter it, it *kind of* freezes and then it reboots...

Any idea on what could be going wrong because I cannot find anything to
get me going :-(

Thanks in advance.

[slim] UK Duet release farse

2008-03-17 Thread markwm

Just what is going on with the UK release of this product? Retailers
kept getting dates and then when that date arrives, they change it to a
later date. It's extremely annoying if you have pre ordered the duet.
This has been going on for well over a month now.

Who exactly is supplying these dates to the retailers? I would
recommend Logitech get another distributor.

Re: [slim] Non-US Duet Delivery?

Well, I suppose I shouldnt be surprised. AdvancedMP3Players.co.uk have
just changed the stock date from today (17th) to 19th and with Easter
coming up, what is the betting that the date slips again.

Ripcaster havent updated their date yet (so still showing 14th Mar),
but it is very likely that they get stock from the same supplier as
AdvancedMP3Players so I would expect the same date from them as well.

It is strange why there are so many delays getting the stock from the
European distribution centre (in Holland) to the UK.

Aha.

I have SC7 configured so that it starts as a service under Windows

Earlier I was getting error messages that the MySql service had not

and the SqueezeCenter service start automatic delayed.

But now I get these other errors indicating (as you suggest) that the
relationship between SqueezeCenter and MySql is still not right...

I wonder if it is due to folder access privileges? I created a special
account on my PC for use by SqueezeCenter. It is a non admin account (I
don't want to give third party software admin rights), it does have
access priviliges to my Music folder and my iTunes folder. But perhaps
I need to give it privileges for some other places too?

Sorry, I shoulda said in my original post that this occurred repeatedly
over the space of an hour or so and I switched back and forth between
SN and my SC installation. Haven't had a chance to try it today. I
guess as much as anything, I'm curious if anyone else sees the same
thing with their SC installation. I've got it installed on a Win XP
box. I've been running SS for about 2 years and only just upgraded to
the release version of SC yesterday.

The application name in the router setup is just a name for that set of
ports, you can put anything you want in it.

As for your problem it does sound a lot like a firewall issue. What
exactly happens when you try to connect - does it timeout or fail
quickly? Any error messages?

[slim] Duet Controller or Nokia N770?

2008-03-17 Thread Zten

I use the N770 currently for controlling my Squeeze Box II when I am too
far away to use the IR remote. It works pretty well, except for issues
with latency. I tried many recommendations from the kind folks on this
forum, but nothing really impoved it. Does the Duet Controller have any
issues with latency? Is latency a function of the WLAN Mode? I have a
wireless B/G network, but I think alot of he time it is dropped down to
B mode since I have B mode devices on the network.

So my question is what is better about the Duet Controller than the
Nokia? If it for sure will be fast, that would be a great plus. Any
other reasons I should buy it?

[slim] Transporter Studdering with AAC

2008-03-17 Thread jrgeoffrion

I've had my Transporter for over a year and love it. However, about 3
weeks ago, it studders when playing Apple Lossless music. I have no
problem with MP3. It sounds a little like a disc skipping.

I'm running Vista x64, 2Gb RAM, and SlimServer 6.5.4. Never had a
problem until 3 weeks ago. I obviously played with something but I
don't know where and how to fix the issue.

I think the problem resides with the AAC converter but that's the
extent of my diagnostic and solution. :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [slim] Duet Controller or Nokia N770?

2008-03-17 Thread bklaas

I would say that I am uniquely qualified to answer your question, as the
developer of the Nokia770 skin as well as being now on the SBC
development team.

In short: it is my belief that you will be much, much more satisfied
with the SBC than a 770 running my skin. This is especially true with
the latency issues you experience on the 770.

But you know...it's not necessary to take what I say as gospel. There
is a 30-day satisfaction guarantee on the Duet, so buy it and give it a
shot. I feel confident that you will not want to return it.

cheers,

MillmoorRon;279920 Wrote:
Does the Squeeze centre version of this skin only work with 800 now?
Since upgrading some buttons no longer work on my 770!

There are definitely problems with the 770 and the skin right now, and
I haven't been able to figure out what's wrong. I don't have a 770 any
more which makes this hard to debug. I've received an offer from a 770
skin user to test for me, but this particular problem really requires
some active trial-and-error by myself.

This is a longshot, but has anyone in the community installed the maemo
sw emulator for the 770 on a desktop PC? If so, please PM me so I can
ask you some questions. That may be my best option for sorting out 770
issues.

What I know about the problem: it's a javascript problem, presumably
with the 770 version of Opera. It affects pull-downs that use
javascript for sure, and possibly beyond that.

Suggestions until I can get a real fix:

make sure that javascript is enabled in the web browser. There were
distros of the 770 OS that had it disabled by default.

try downloading minimo, the browser for the 770 based on mozilla rather
than opera. That's what the N800 uses, and it does not have this
problem. If you try that and it works, please post to this thread and
let me (and other 770 users) know.

cheers,
#!/ben

Dear Radish and Bobkoure,
When I try and connect it takes ~20sec; then pops up with a rather
standard, non-specific error. Specifically, the browser title bar says

Okay - I gave that a shot, and it didn't seem to work. Adjusting the

I'm going to do a bit more research about the bridging option. Failing

If that -is- the issue, possibly the answer is to use something like

The problem is not that the tags aren't being read correctly (as they

The N800 has some enhancements to the wifi that allow it to connect
more reliably and quicker, as well as coming out of sleep in a much
smoother fashion. So, if that's what you're referring to by latency
issues, yes the N800 is better. It's also quicker in general, and the
new OS2008, which the N800 will run but the 770 will not, is superior
IMO.

N770 skin is available in SS 6.54 and SC 7.0. The skin in 7.0 has some
nice enhancements though, cataloged here:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?TouchNokia770ss7Enhancements

There is nothing to download, in both products the skin is part of the
core distribution. Append the URL for the webUI with /nokia770/ and
you're in business.

Re: [slim] Networking Assistance - SB3 and SC7

2008-03-17 Thread Zaragon

Changing the router address as you did just meant that you had to have
bridging working. I don't believe that the router you mentioned is able
to provide a local routing function as I described.

If you were able to swap the Server Mac and your own Mac over so that
the server had the wireless connection and your Mac was connected to it
over ethernet sharing the wireless. With your wireless configured as it
was previously then it should allow the SB3 to see the music and you to
control it via a web interface from your own Mac. However, there are
limitations in that config which probably won't affect you at the
moment but may if you add further devices.

It would be better long term if you can have both Macs wired to the
router. Connecting the SB3 by wireless would be OK.

Re: [slim] Thanks Slim Devices / Logitech!

2008-03-17 Thread sellars

The wait is over - my Duet just arrived at my door. I ordered it from
Slimdevices last Friday. I am impressed by how fast it made it along
the West Coast up to Vancouver, Canada!

I should have ordered from you guys right away - instead I tried to
order from a local reseller. What a big mistake. The first one I called
said they had a SB2 on display but wouldn't really oder the Duet anytime
soon. The second one took half of the cost right away and promised,
after checking with their distributor, that the unit would arrive
within 3-5 days. Instead, I waited 2 weeks just to hear that the first
available unit would be available in MAY! That's when I decided to bite
the bullet, pay for shipping and possible customs fees/duty. In the end
I just ended up paying taxes - no customs fees or duty at all!

So, Slimdevices still rules and Logitech must do something about their
supply chain. It was a shock for me to hear you guys got bought out by
Logitech, but you still rock my world. You should be proud to work at
such a great place!

This might be really daft but you did check that the IP address to

Changing the OS means you would have either had to re-enter it or DHCP
