Re: [slim] Used to connect remotely, now I can't
As best as I can tell from 'SlimProtoTCPProtocol' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?SlimProtoTCPProtocol), which I just found :) you need to NAT TCP3843 and TCP9000 inbound to the server and NAT UDP3843 inbound to the client. (I've asked in the developers' forum to see if I got this right) I'd suggest you go to one of the remote machines you're trying to connect to and try to telnet to your server on port 3848 - then type -HELO- and see if you get anything back. If you do, and you can get to the web interface at port 9000, then you probably have server-inbound connectivity. I don't have any great ideas about testing the UDP3848 from the server to the client - sorry... -- bobkoure bobkoure's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14646 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44889 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Artist sort question
I'm having a sort problem when viewing artists alphabetically. The vast majority of artists are sorted by the first name if they are tagged that way. However, the odd artist here and there shows up by last name. Janis Ian is not in the Js but is in the I section next to Ian Hunter. Joni Mitchell is not in the Js, but in the Ms. Norah Jones is not in the Ns, but in the Js. Otis Redding is not in the Os but the Rs. I don't spot any particular pattern that would explain that. The tagging info seems OK. I searched the forum and the wiki for similar problems but didn't note anything helpful. I'm using Squeezecenter 7 on a Linux box (FC8) and everything else is running smoothly. Re: [slim] When Duet controller can support Chinese Characters ??
One way to get CJK (or any other character set) to work on the Duet is to supply the necessary fonts yourself, replacing the shipped font. I just tried this, and it (kinda) works. Requirements: * scp (Secure CoPy) installed (I happen to have Cygwin on my Windows installation, which comes with a scp) * a font which support your desired character set - let's assume it's c:\windows\fonts\simhei.ttf Preparation: 1. enable remote access on the Duet remote (Settings-Advanced-Remote Login-Enable SSH) - it will tell you the remote's IP, I assume 192.168.1.3 for the example 2. open a console (cygwin or otherwise) 3. cd c:\windows\fonts Backup of original fonts: 1. scp [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/share/jive/fonts/FreeSans.ttf FreeSans.ttf 2. enter password (1234) 3. scp [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/share/jive/fonts/FreeSansBold.ttf FreeSansBold.ttf Installation of CJK-enabled font (simhei in this example): 1. scp simhei.ttf [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/share/jive/fonts/FreeSans.ttf 2. enter passwowrd (1234) 3. scp simhei.ttf [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/share/jive/fonts/FreeSansBold.ttf 4. enter passwowrd (1234) 5. restart the remote After this you will notice that the menu font looks different, as it's using simhei now. I noticed that the italic portions (such as when looking at song info) doesn't work right, there's a mess of pixels. However, in the Now Playing screen, it's just fine - or at least looks fine to me, I don't read Chinese ;) -- tomb tomb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14503 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44890 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Used to connect remotely, now I can't
Hello, I've been running SlimServer for the past few years, and have never had any trouble connecting to it remotely. Recently I changed the OS on my server to MythDora, which necessitated that I redownload Slim software. The download link led me to SqueezeCenter, which seemed to install without incident. Unfortunately, one of these 2 changes (new OS or switch to SqueezeCenter) is preventing me from connecting remotely from computers outside of my firewall. As long as I'm behind my router firewall, I can connect to SqueezeCenter with no problem using localhost:9000, serverIP:9000, or dydns_example.com:9000 (mercifully, my SqueezeBox is working fine). I am forwarding ports 3483TCP, 3483UDP and 9000TCP to my server's IP address. I believe that the firewall and SELinux in MythDora are disabled; also, IP blocking in SqueezeCenter is set to Do not block. I'm hoping someone here might have some thoughts as to what I am doing wrong? I do have one question related to port forwarding, I'm using a linksys router with stock firmware, and on the port forwarding configuration page it asks for an application in addition to the port range, protocol, and IP address. Does it matter what I put in the application box? Currently it says SlimServer, but maybe I need to update this to reflect the change to SqueezeCenter? If so, what do I change it to? SqueezeCenter is too many characters, and changing it to Squeeze didn't solve the problem. I've tried looking at the wiki, but the instructions still reference SlimServer; also, looked through the recent forum posts, but didn't see one that pertained to this problem exactly. [slim] Squeezebox won't let me type in a WPA key and reboot
Hello, I have been using my squeezebox with my netgear router (WEP) without any problem but I moved to a new flatshare this week-end and I can't get my squeezebox to connect to this new network. The home network uses a Sky Router with WPA encryption. When I start my Squeezebox, it does find the network and I can select it. But for whatever reason, when my squeezebox prompts for the WPA password, I cannot enter it, it *kind of* freezes and then it reboots... Well, I suppose I shouldnt be surprised. AdvancedMP3Players.co.uk have just changed the stock date from today (17th) to 19th and with Easter coming up, what is the betting that the date slips again. Ripcaster havent updated their date yet (so still showing 14th Mar), but it is very likely that they get stock from the same supplier as AdvancedMP3Players so I would expect the same date from them as well. [slim] Duet Controller or Nokia N770?

If you try that and it works, please post to this thread and let me (and other 770 users) know. cheers, #!/ben -- bklaas the Nokia770 skin guy http://www.last.fm/user/bklaas/ bklaas's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19369 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Yet Another Error from SC7 server.log
Why don't you just run SC7 in a default installation for a while. Then, when everything shows it's working, start tweaking. I promise you, we won't spy your system if you run SC as the default SYSTEM user... Ok. However, if I do this, then I still need to explicitly let SYSTEM have access to my Music and iTunes folders, right? Unless you've changed the folder's permissions, SYSTEM has access to any local resource. -- Michael ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Used to connect remotely, now I can't
Dear Radish and Bobkoure, When I try and connect it takes ~20sec; then pops up with a rather standard, non-specific error. Specifically, the browser title bar says cannot find server and in the main window it says the page cannot be displayed. I never tried simply turning off the router firewall (probably should have done that before I posted anything). I'll give that a shot this evening, and any other suggestions you might have(?) Thanks. -- Liam Obrien Liam Obrien's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4306 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44889 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Networking Assistance - SB3 and SC7
Okay - I gave that a shot, and it didn't seem to work. Adjusting the router to use 192.168.2.1 as its IP address (and the default gateway) seemed OK, except that I was no longer able to connect remotely to the server Mac over VNC. I'm going to do a bit more research about the bridging option. Failing that, I'm going to get creative about the location of the server and/or the router... -- Symbiotic Symbiotic's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13490 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44863 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

The problem is not that the tags aren't being read correctly (as they show up properly on the web interface I believe) but that the font used on the SBC simply doesn't contain the required characters. -- radish radish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=77 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44890 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I looked in the Plugins page of the slimdevices.com website - but I don't see it there. Kevin The N800 has some enhancements to the wifi that allow it to connect more reliably and quicker, as well as coming out of sleep in a much smoother fashion. So, if that's what you're referring to by latency issues, yes the N800 is better. It's also quicker in general, and the new OS2008, which the N800 will run but the 770 will not, is superior IMO. N770 skin is available in SS 6.54 and SC 7.0. The skin in 7.0 has some nice enhancements though, cataloged here: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?TouchNokia770ss7Enhancements There is nothing to download, in both products the skin is part of the core distribution. [slim] SC 7.0 interface problem
When I press 'save settings' in one of the player settings it loads automatically 'Last.fm Audioscrobbler' This is very annoying because when I am configuring the IR Blaster plugin everytime when I change the device for example it flash to 'Last.fm Audioscrobbler' I'm using the skin called Fishbon. This problem happens in Firefox as in IE. I have two plugins called 'Last.fm Audioscrobbler' and 'Last.fm SqueezeScrobbler'. Which one should i use? Re: [slim] Networking Assistance - SB3 and SC7
Changing the router address as you did just meant that you had to have bridging working. I don't believe that the router you mentioned is able to provide a local routing function as I described. If you were able to swap the Server Mac and your own Mac over so that the server had the wireless connection and your Mac was connected to it over ethernet sharing the wireless. With your wireless configured as it was previously then it should allow the SB3 to see the music and you to control it via a web interface from your own Mac. However, there are limitations in that config which probably won't affect you at the moment but may if you add further devices. It would be better long term if you can have both Macs wired to the router. Connecting the SB3 by wireless would be OK. -- Zaragon Zaragon's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14577 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44863 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Thanks Slim Devices / Logitech!
The wait is over - my Duet just arrived at my door. I ordered it from Slimdevices last Friday. I am impressed by how fast it made it along the West Coast up to Vancouver, Canada! I should have ordered from you guys right away - instead I tried to order from a local reseller. What a big mistake. The first one I called said they had a SB2 on display but wouldn't really oder the Duet anytime soon. The second one took half of the cost right away and promised, after checking with their distributor, that the unit would arrive within 3-5 days. Instead, I waited 2 weeks just to hear that the first available unit would be available in MAY! That's when I decided to bite the bullet, pay for shipping and possible customs fees/duty. In the end I just ended up paying taxes - no customs fees or duty at all! So, Slimdevices still rules and Logitech must do something about their supply chain. It was a shock for me to hear you guys got bought out by Logitech, but you still rock my world. You should be proud to work at such a great place! -- sellars sellars's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=525 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44669 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Used to connect remotely, now I can't
This might be really daft but you did check that the IP address to forward to in the router is of your new server? Changing the OS means you would have either had to re-enter it or DHCP may have assigned a new one. Ooops just realised that you mentioned you'd tried connecting using your dynamic DNS entry so that isn't it. -- Zaragon Zaragon's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14577 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44889 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
