[slim] Help with blue light

2008-03-20 Thread m1cross

I love this duet, and it works perfect most of the time. When it causes
me grief, it's usually after it has sat for a long time, like overnight
and then i try to use it in the morning. I think the bottom line with
this problem has something to do with SC.So here are a few
questions, and thanks for your help:

1. In order to use the controller, does SC have to be 'up and running'
on my computer? I prefer SC over SN because I like to have access to
the music on my computer without having to mess with plugins, etc..

2. If I encounter 'Blue light' on SR, what are the 1st steps i need to
do? When I have problems, the blue light is always 'on'.

3. Should i change the config of my duet to the ad hoc (spelling ??)
set up? Would that help?

Windows xp, SR w/ ethernet cable, SC w/ wireless network

Re: [slim] SqueezeCenter and real media streams in favorites

2008-03-20 Thread bpa

If you have a Playlist directory defined - check if favorites.opml is
installed ther.

The wsui URL has a mime type of "audio/x-pn-realaudio".

I've come across only two other MIME types, so my list of RealAudio
MIME type is as follows:
audio/x-realaudio
audio/x-pn-realaudio
audio/x-pn-multirate-realaudio-live
audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin
application/ram

Adding the above types to the custom-type.conf file should get rid of
the "xml" error and also will give a play icon on each Favorites. I
tested the custom-type.conf change on a Windows XP system and the WGN
ram URL worked OK for me.

Re: [slim] Squeezecenter upgrade

2008-03-20 Thread Charles Calkins

Hi Guys:
I guess the best thing about upgrading to the Squeeze center is that
in my system it seems that now my solid state preamp sounds more like a
tube preamp. I'm using a solid state pre now to do an A versus B CD
player comparison. The remote lets me switch between aux 1 and 2 like
right now. My AVA T7ECR pre doesn't have that ability. It's volume or
mute. In the next couple of days I'll put my AVA T7ECR back in the
loop. Stay tuned!! More info. to follow.

Re: [slim] Wi-Fi Internet Clock Radio?

2008-03-20 Thread Ralph 411

We also were spoiled by SqueezeBox access to internet radio played over
our audiofile system, and wanted a solution that allowed us to wake up
to internet radio with high-quality sound. At the Rocky Mountain Audio
Fest we looked a options and selected the Audio Engine 5, relatively
small self-powered speakers, for our second SqueezeBox. This
configuration works well and sounds great, if you are willing to use
the remote to control the SqueezeBox. I actually have come to prefer
that method rather than fumbling around on the case of a radio.

One problem: things work well only when SqueezeNetwork keeps the alarm
function working. Ours has not worked since the February migration.
This problem is being addressed by Logitech as Bug #4855.

Normally the multiple artists is used for Classical Music, as you can
insert the composer, the orchestra and the performer.

Yes, I sorted by Genre.

ok

All right, but then maybe the VA albums should be sorted by the same
field as the non-VA albums: in my file I have selected to sort by
"Genre" but the VA are sorted by "Album".

Excellent work. Keep going.

Re: [slim] Wi-Fi Internet Clock Radio?

2008-03-20 Thread sander

dhiren, maybe you can clarify, how much control do you really have over
the chumby?

I've browsed their forums from time to time, but it's unclear if you
can only choose what the chumby network has to offer and if you
ultimately have control over it without completely hacking it. I seem
to recall all the devices stopped working when their network went down.
It seems less like a Squeezebox connected to a slimserver and more like
a squeezebox hardwired to the squeeze network (to put it in a form we
can all understand).

It really looks like you could build the ultimate alarm clock with it,
but it also looks like it could turn into a 3d web pop-up next to your
bed!

Re: [slim] Used to connect remotely, now I can't

2008-03-20 Thread bobkoure

Sorry - got busy, lost this thread.
NAT's just slang for "port forward" (network address translation)

So... the problem was something blocking port 9000 in your firewall? It
can't have been something blocking 9000 on your server or you wouldn't
have been able to have accessed SC at 9000 internally.
If that's true, you could just leave SC at 9000 and do the 8000->9000
port translation at the firewall - although the only reason I can think
of to change it is if you're using softsqueeze locally as I've seen at
least one comment that it doesn't use a non-9000 port as specified in
the strm message it received from the server (but I may have misread as
I was just skimming).
Best,
Bob

Re: [slim] Artists listed in wrong order

2008-03-20 Thread ceejay

This may be related to a bug in MySQL about sorting - there are several
threads on this here, I think. I believe it is specific to a particular
range of MySQL versions.

The other possibility is that you have some screwed up ARTISTSORT tags,
but my money is on the first one...

One of two things:

1) What version of MySql are you using? Some versions have sorting
problems.

2) Are you sure you do not have ARTISTSORT tags?

That looks suspiciously like you have a track with Paula Abdul and an
ARTISTSORT tag on it of 'Abdul, Paula' as well as a Bryan Adams track
with 'Adams, Bryan' for ARTISTSORT.

[slim] Artists listed in wrong order

2008-03-20 Thread cyberelk11

Hi,

I've just installed SqueezeCenter 7.0 on Linux (Fedora 8, x86_64), and
I'm having problem with the order that artists are listed in.

The sorting seems to be "mostly right" but has some really wacky things
wrong, especially near the beginning. Here is how the list starts (the
'A's don't even begin until the 9th item):

Flanagan
Jon Bon Jovi
Lisa Stansfield
Meat Loaf
Backstreet Boys
Dream
Hearsay
Toni Braxton
A Fine Frenzy
A-ha
A Man Called Adam
A1
ABBA
Abc
Paula Abdul
Ace of Base
Bryan Adams
Adrian Gurvitz
Africando
Madonna
Air
Akon
The Alice Band
Alisha's Attic
Alison Krauss & Union Station
etc.

The general trend is alphabetical, but there seems to be more or less
random sorting for some items.

The files are mostly in Ogg Vorbis format, and SlimServer 6.5 worked a
lot better, although it would sometimes sort artists by last name and
this didn't seem to be predictable.

Is anyone else seeing this? How can I debug it?

Tim.

Agreed 100%. The speed issue is one thing, but more importantly, the
stream.mp3 approach is incredibly limited, and doesn't give you any
sense whatsoever of the functionality of a Squeezebox. If I had done my
pre-purchase testing on winamp I never would have bought an SB. Now I

Some tips;
- IE does not by default print the gradient background behind the album
headers. You can enable this in the advanced IE options. Look much
nicer...
- The IE header and footer can be modified as they look really ugly on
a catalog page. In the ACC help screen there are some tips on how to do
this.

You could also try checking to make sure that Windows hasn't smacked
down your hard-drive into PIO mode. If it has it wastes CPU cycles
reading files (i.e. your music) which it could be using for

Only takes a minute to check it out. See this thread:

Thx for posting the pictures. Really helps a lot trouble shooting. ACC
supports this feature for multiple genres but doesn't support this for
multiple artists (yet). No one has reported this problem yet so I don't
think many people use tagging this way? I'll put it on my to do list to
implement in a next version. In the mean I'm afraid disabling the
multiple tag feature is the only solution to this problem.

I'll get back on this one because I need to review the code but I think
this is related to the sorting option selected. Did you sort it by
Genre?

I think your right in that it is related to problem 2 because multiple
genres are supported by ACC. I tested it myself with multiple i.e. 'The
greatest hits' albums. Have to figure out why it does not work in your
case.

This is by design I'm afraid. First all non VA albums are processed
then the VA albums. The sorting method is applied to both runs.

If that fails, you can download the .bin file here:

Put it on a SD card, remove your Squeezebox Controller's battery,

Re: [slim] Upgrading SlimServer To SqueezeCenter 7

2008-03-20 Thread Secret Squirrel

This topic has discussed MANY times. Check out some of the threads in
the forum. To consolidate it all just go ahead and download the latest
from the web site and install over your current Slimserver.

As to which version, you have to decide for yourself. 7.0.1 (the daily
build) is still in beta, so if you're up to a few possible problems
(none that I've had or read of) and you're willing to report bugs if
found, go that route. Otherwise, I'd recommend 7.0

Enjoy the music!

Cheers!

[slim] Feature request: context-sensitivity when playing tracks

to use: for instance the screen could display the album and artist name
only if tracks in the playlist are not all from one album, and omit that
display if it is all the same album.

[slim] Upgrading SlimServer To SqueezeCenter 7

2008-03-20 Thread WolfieCA

Greetings!

About to upgrade to SqueezeCenter from a SlimServer installation that
has been running flawlessly for the last year or so.

Any tips/advice on performing this upgrade? Should I install over the
top, or remove all traces of SlimServer and install fresh.

Also should I use the main download or the daily build.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Dukeissac,
Welcome.
I've found that after the initial MIP config in the settings/advanced
page has been applied and the server is reset, the player settings page
will include MIP.

Re: [slim] Used to connect remotely, now I can't

2008-03-20 Thread Liam Obrien

Dear Zaragon,
Thank you for your input; I think the problem is resolved, see post
#10. For some reason port 9000 would work if I was behind the firewall,
but not outside; switching SqueezeCenter (and the router forwarding) to
port 8000 allows me to connect inside and outside the firewall. I'm
currently locking down SqueezeCenter using username/password, but will
look into implementing SSL as you suggest.
Thanks.

[slim] SqueezeCenter integration w/ MusicIP

2008-03-20 Thread Dukeisaac

I recently upgraded from Slimserver 6.5.4 to SqueezeCenter 7.0. When
running 6.5.4 and MusicIp 1.8.1b everything worked fine and I was able
to mix playlists using the mm icons from MusicIp. After upgrading to
SqueezeCenter 7.0 the mm icons disappeared and I'm no longer able to
mix using MusicIp. Right after the upgrade, I set up SqueezeCenter to
use musicip for mixes. The old 6.5.4 had a page where the "Basic
Setting" for the server could be changed to choose musicip for mixes.
With 7.0, this choice is given only at the initial setup. Maybe I'm
missing something. Please help. I like the new interface of 7.0 but
cannot live without musicip.

[slim] VNSea on itouch as remote

Hi,

I am thinking of buying an touch for on the move.

I was wondering if anyone out there has an itouch or iphone and have
tried it with the vnsea client to connect via vnc to your pc/mac and
then tried using for instance moose in touch view mode as a slick
remote for the squeezebox.

I have looked into ipeng or any of the other skins of squeezecenter but
am just checking out the possibilities.

Thanks in advance

If your collection has not been scanned, it is.
SC will scan on demand music that has not yet been added to it's

I have some local AM stations that are owned by ClearChannel and
broadcast RealAudio redirected streams. I had successfully installed

reported an unsupported stream.

But today, the unsupported comment is gone, and the SB3 connects just
fine. I'm running SC 7 and Vista Basic SP1.

Also, your SBC has probably gone to sleep by now if you lost it... I doubt

[slim] Remote access of web interface and softsqueeze

2008-03-20 Thread damager

I have SqueezeCenter running on a server in my home, and working just
fine with my Duet. I can reach the web interface of that SqueezeCenter
from work, but just typing "http://servername:9000"; into a browser.

I then installed softsqueeze, and tried both "http://servername"; and
"http://servername:9000"; as the SqueezeCenter hostname, and receive a
"Connection failed" message.

Any words of wisdom? Thanks in advance.

Re: [slim] find the remote

This is a good idea, but it would require significant changes because
communication is largely one-way, SBC -> SC. This is the reason why
SBC status data doesn't appear in the SC Status page.

Now if you were CLI-savvy you could SSH into the SBC, I bet there is a
command that produces a beep.

But, file an enhancement request.

Re: [slim] SqueezeCenter and real media streams in favorites

2008-03-20 Thread bpa

I checked Favorites behaviour in more detail. When it checks the target
URL - it uses the return MIME type (and not the extension) to determine
if the target an audio stream or not. The addition of
"audio/x-pn-realaudio" fixes the problem on both my Windows and Linux
systems for those URLs which return that MIME type.

For live streams (i.e. .rm) there is a different MIME type
"audio/x-pn-multirate-realaudio-live" and for .rpm URLs have
"audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin".

There may be others.

To be correct these MIME types should be added to AlienBBC so that
Favorites can do this checking (which was not done in MyPicks).

Can you post some of your URLs and I'll check to see if there are are
more MIME types. I'll then update AlienBBC.

Re: [slim] Non-US Duet Delivery?

2008-03-20 Thread Sike

Tried to order today, 15 minutes after the status chaged to "in-stock"
on the online shops (Most swiss online dealers don't have a stock, they
just get it delivered directly from the distrubitor)

Needles to say, They couldn't process my order because the 5 (Yes Five)
that were delivered to the dirstributor were sold out in minutes ..

:(

My point still being: Slimdevices refuses to talk about developments.
Whips out a device at the CES and makes us wait 3 Months to get them

I will now try to order through the US (get it shipped to the US), if
they can provide a warranty for Switzerland. (Which Logitech probably
can't as they rely on distributors for warrantys...)

Re: [slim] Apple Subscription Service!

2008-03-20 Thread moley6knipe

Tis true. People like us with SB3s and Transporters who care about good
sound quality are in the minority, I guess

And (leaving aside debates like sound quality, DRM etc) it's much
easier/quicker to click "Buy" in iTunes than it is to rip a CD. IMHO,
YMMV etc.

And one day I'll be the same; if ITMS offers DRM free Apple Lossless
files in the future (and I've no idea if they ever will) then that's
how I'll buy my music.
