Re: [slim] Updating firmware

2008-04-06 Thread mwewe

The installation of SC7 is described as (Optional) in the duet user
guide. I didn't install it because I'm using Live365 instead of leaving
my computer on all the time.

This being the case, how do the firmware upgrades get done? I see a
controller menu item to update the network software, which I guess is
the controller firmware, but I don't see any way to upgrade the
receiver.

Is that done automatically from the SqueezeNetwork?

Now if both of you could go a bit more in to details: what are you missing?
What should get fixed/changed? What can we expect from this new option?

Please help an ignorant - I'm avoiding the forums whenever possible, using the

[slim] Lost Squeexebox

2008-04-06 Thread copernical

I sometimes get the following message from my controller.
"couldn't connect your SB to your wireless network. Make sure it is
within range of your wireless network. (Lost Squeezebox)"

I can usually overcome this by switching off and on again, or if this
doesn't do it, by doing a factory reset.

When the SB is working, all seems pretty normal. The signal strength
for the player is between 10% and 30%.

But overnight the gremlins get in! :-)

I have a new SB Duet, wireless network with Linksys wireless router
WRT54GL (802.11g), Squeezecenter 7.0.1, controller updated regularly.

I think maybe there is a preferred order in which to get the equipment
started, but not sure.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

Re: [slim] Squeeze controller losing network connection

2008-04-06 Thread spence

My latest problem sounds similar to everything here, but it's not quite
the same. My SBC has been working fine up until this evening when it
lost contact with my SB Duet. I've tried rebooting the SBC, I've tried
removing and re-inserting its batteries, I've tried updating the
software, but nothing I can do will get it to reconnect.

I've also tried connecting it to the other device in the house (a
Squeezebox) and it won't connect to that either.

My SBC, Duet and SB are all connected to the Squeezenetwork, and I
almost exclusively play music from Rhapsody, which is what I was
playing when the problem occurred this evening. I run Squeezecenter on
my (Vista) PC as well, but I cannot get the SBC to connect to that
either.

It's not a local network problem. All my devices are connected over
WiFi, but I can see from the router's IP tables that they all have IP
addresses, and I can in fact ping them all.

The SBC is running version 7.0 r2097, even after downloading a s/w
update from the network (yes, it downloads 100%, verifies, and
reboots).

What's my next step?

We're currently working on SN no longer displaying options which aren't
available in a give country. In a few weeks customers outside the US won't see

Please check the SqueezeCenter service's settings in Windows'

otherwise something went wrong.

UNC paths should work fine (mapped drives do not!). Please set logging

Re: [slim] Squeeze controller losing network connection

2008-04-06 Thread jason3fc

I finally figured I could get mine back up and running with a "hard
reset" on the receiver.. Holding the button down longer than 12 secs.
It came back on, and I was able to reconnect it with wired connection,
it got a proper address from DHCP and started working. It worked all
night friday, I left for the weekend and came back and sure enough the
light was blue and it was disconnected. However, the controller was
still connected, and had been the entire time. Im starting to see
unlike some of the others here, my controller stays connected fine, its
my receiver that keeps losing connection. I did a hard reset on it
again, and downloaded the most recent controller firmware, and I was
able to reconnect it. Ill see if it still connected in the morning.
Unlike a lot of others here, my controller works fine, it definitely
the receiver im having problems with.

[slim] Quite upset - Rhapsody!

2008-04-06 Thread BrockStone

So I started the free trial for Rhapsody from my controller for my Duet.
Been using it the past week and am quite thoroughly addicted to having

Went to sign up...US customers only?

Wtf?

Perhaps Logitech should have a wiki or something that can be kept up to
date as to what services can and can not be used outside of the US.
Just annoying that I'm completely addicted to and used to it now, and
then can't use it. I'd rather have not had it at all.

On that note, anyone know of any on-demand streaming music services
that ARE available to outside the US?

Thanks

have much music...so its worthless to me at this point.

Maybe its a bug? I am using r2097 and reciever firmware 22. I have
spent 2 days trying every single combination of clicks on the remote of
every menu to see a pin...no dice. I saw somewhere you dont need a pin,
but to log into squeezenetwork and link my rhapsody account..it needs a
pin. Sorry to be a pain, but this is killing me.

Two reasons-- 1) It doesn't put my entire song list in queue and 2) It

[slim] Display ? for SB3

2008-04-06 Thread Pneumonic

Hi.

I am using Slimserver 6.5.4

For naming nomenclature reasons I have setup my SB3 to display "Title
(Artist)" on the 1st line with "Album" on the 2nd line.

In such a configuration my Album info is bolded and displayed more
prominently than the top line. I'd prefer this to be reversed if
possible.

I have looked about in the settings setup but can't find an option to
essentially reverse the font settings on the 1st and 2nd lines.

Does anyone know if it is possible to do what I am attempting?

Thanks

[slim] Controller doesn't see Flickr, then does...

2008-04-06 Thread Brian Ritchie

As a keen Flickr user ('shameless plug'
(http://www.flickr.com/photos/brianritchie)), I was tickled to see that
I can set the Controller to use Flickr images as a screensaver. (To be
honest, I quickly tired of seeing my own, and set it to
"Interesting"!)

However, for most of today, it didn't seem to work: when the saver came
on, it showed just a dull blank green (and I know some of my photos are
dull, but... :-) )

I assumed that today's update had nixed it somehow. (Don't know 'bout
anyone else, but my controller seems to get daily updates; can get a
bit annoying, to be honest, when I really want to use the remote, not
wait 5 minutes for a load and reset... maybe I should go back to the
official SC7.0 release?)

A few moments ago, however, it sprung back to life. No new update.
Maybe there was something up at Flickr's end (hiccoughs not being
unknown there); maybe it was something else. Any ideas?

Yes, it's not exactly the most important thing that the Controller
does; I'm just curious.

Re: [slim] This URL works with SN, not with SC

2008-04-06 Thread short_y

OK, finally had a chance to get back to this and I can confirm that it
doesn't work from SC but does from SN. I switched back and forth
between a connection to SC and a connection to SN and it repeatedly
works with SN but not with SC. I tried hitting the server with curl to
see what it returns and I got a 302 object moved but the new location
was the same as what I sent. IIRC, the server keys on User Agent or
something and returns a URL that has variables embedded in it. If the
issuer can't substitute for the variables, you get nuthin'. Tried it in
Firefox with NoScript installed and the URL I get returned is

http://www.streamaudio.com/listen/default_gonew.asp?headertext=&Owner=&station=KFOG_FM&PortalFormat=&OptIn=&streamtype=&filename=

[slim] Request: vBulletin config change

2008-04-06 Thread jsharper

Hello
I'm wondering if someone from Slim Devices would consider changing the
following vBulletin config option on this forum:

AdminCP->vBulletin Options->General Settings->Thread/Forum Read Marking
Type

to 'Database (automatic forum marking)' or at least 'Database (no
automatic forum marking)' ?
This is a feature introduced in vBulletin 3.5 that greatly improves the
experience for forum users.

Thanks

Re: [slim] Squeeze controller losing network connection

2008-04-06 Thread kimbl

Aha - further to earlier posts, I've now got a clean logfile from the
controller after a reboot through playing and successful operations
until it showed the "blue icon, no connection" fault. I'm becomming
more convinced it's not actually a network layer fault, but something
in the communications with SqueezeCenter after a network blip.

Seems to be normal operations - checking clocks, daily check of
firmware etc, then the following - drops off, then errors during the
DHCP negotation, which clear,

okay, building and running dbclient was no problem at all. From a

[slim] Fileshare Problem with SqueezeCenter v7.0

2008-04-06 Thread Ed C

OS is Windows XP SP2. When I set SqueezeCenter to "start when I logon"
it can see my network storage drive where my music is stored. When I
set it to "start automatically when the computer starts" using the very
same username and password that I use to logon, it can't "see" the
network based storage.

SlimServer 6.5 needed UNC paths to work and I've tried that with
Squeezecenter 7.0, but it reports that it's not a valid path.

Thanks in advance. (I'm glad I saved the install for SlimServer 6.5. I
may need to backdate!)

(Yes, I've searched the forums and read most of the posts about using
IP addresses and UNC paths. None of that worked.)

Re: [slim] New owner, Duet - Updated software is available for this remote

2008-04-06 Thread epoch1970

Thanks guys, updating SC to the nightly did solve both problems:
- settings>advanced>software update now says I'm up to date
- with this version I could ssh just fine.

So the SC server embeds the firmware updates for the devices, and can
push them over the Lan. Updating the server does it all. That's great.

Thanks again,

For the record, I was running the official release for OS X, 7.0

Installed SqueezeCenter 7.0 yesterday. Love it!

Also, I kowtow to those of you who have written some of the plugins!

Three questions:
1.) Most Important: Is there a way to search for stations streaming in
128kbps or higher bitrates? I'm not interested in listening to 48kbps
streams on my brand new audiophile speakers.

2.) Would like to know: Is there a way to search currently playing

3.) Would like to know: Any non-browser skins available for SqueezeBox?
Currently opens in Firefox, but would rather have a standalone?

Many thanks,

If the albums are ones you've purchased from iTunes they won't show up
because of the DRM issue. You'll have to work around this by either
burning to CD and re-rip, or use iMovie to copy and export audio
tracks. Also, check your compilations tags, as the albums may be
showing up there.

I used the iMovie workaround and it worked perfectly, so all my albums
show up DRM free.

You could always zip a folder structure. But I don't believe I'll be able to

[slim] SC 7.0 hogging CPU

2008-04-06 Thread toobiloo

I installed squeezecenter 7.0 about a month ago, and now every so often,
it completely takes over the cpu. I'm running OSX 10.4.11 on a old G4.
In Activity Monitor, I see perl at ~60% and mysqld in the 20% range.
I'm not a computer genius, but I assume that when this happens
SqueezeCenter is rescanning or something, because it's not even serving
up music to either one of my squeezeboxen at the time. Is this normal?
This never happened to my set up under SS 6. The only reason that I
can tell something is up is because what ever program I am trying to
run becomes so sluggish as to be unusable.

[slim] Duet Controller Access to Music Folder

2008-04-06 Thread Millwood

I navigate my music collection on my SB3 by Music Folder. In looking at
the Duet documentation, that doesn't seem to be an option.

Can the Duet controller menu be configured to include Music Folder? Or
does it, even though the documentation doesn't show it?

If not, is this planned? When?

I'm considering the Duet, but this would be a deal breaker for me.

Re: [slim] Minnesota Public Radio 128 Stream

2008-04-06 Thread cooppw02

Thanks so much for the advice on looking up an alternate URL. I hadn't
even been aware that the regular URL stopped working. I've had a Duet
for a few weeks now, and have found that I listen to MPR's The Current
quite a bit.

I'm afraid that this might be an effort to lock out hardware streamers,
as I'm also able to stream the station on my computer using VLC. I do
believe I've read in some other threads that some internet radio
stations are starting to block access to hardware streamers.

As for your volume issue, I'm afraid I'm not any help. I use the
volume control on the SBC quite a bit, so I can't even confirm that
there is a difference.

[slim] New owner, Duet - Updated software is available for this remote

2008-04-06 Thread epoch1970

Hello all,

I bought a Duet today, my 1st Squeezebox. With the well-written
documentation (which unfortunately is nowhere to be found in the
product box), I could setup my duet in bridged mode as needed. All
works well.

There is one thing bugging me: in settings/advanced/network update I
can see "updated software is available for this remote". Problem is, I
have updated the remote something like 4 times already today, and I
still have that message. The install seems to run fine each time, so I
really begin to wonder...
I don't know where to read the current version for the remote and I
can't get to a shell using ssh or ssh -1.

So, known issue, or non issue ?

Re: [slim] Squeeze controller losing network connection

2008-04-06 Thread sapnho

With yesterday's software update on the controller, things "appear" to
be more stable. Let's wait and see. The idea behind the Duet is great
and I have no doubt that the problems will be ironed out, it would just
be nice if it wouldn't take too long.

BTW, to all people that have problems with the software update. I don't
know why, but sometimes it just doesn't work at all, and sometimes it
works no problem. It works great in the mornings (European time) but
almost never in the evening. Why that is...

Re: [slim] SC7 library logic tags wiki entry project needed!

2008-04-06 Thread MrSinatra

exactly...

i was actually hoping the development team would internally have such a
flowchart somewhere, but that doesn't seem to be the case. in so far as
i can tell, its currently done ad hoc, and people seem to either use it
as is, or figure out workarounds.

my feeling is that a wiki chart should be setup as the reference
benchmark of how SC is supposed to work, and is expected to work.
then, when cases arise for users where it does not do so, it will be
easier to figure out if the problem is a bug, a needed enhancement, or
an issue with the users data.

at the moment, it absolutely seems to me that SC7 has a bug in so far
as organizing my music.

can some please get a wiki page started and organized into the right
place, and i and others i am sure will happily start trying to create a
linear flowchart?

I've tried streaming with my mobile phone as well, and without constant
charging it drained in a few hours :) But I guess the Controller can be
charged with USB?

The actual streaming could also be done from another device like
softsqueeze/softslave/mp3-stream on a computer or embedded device and
only user the Controller as a remote.

I don't think a UI for creating and destroying a ssh-tunnel shouldn't
be too hard to make.

The only technical explanation for it that I know of has to to with the
j-word. Jitter. So its not about getting the same bits in and out, its
about the timing.

Yes - the data is either right or not. Unlike ethernet, as far as I
recall, SP/DIF does not have any error detection/corrrection built in,
however at the data rates and distances used, it shouldn't need it.
There is however an additional issue of jitter, i.e. slight differences
in the time at when each bit arrives. A decent receive-end will have its
own timebase to resynchronise the data, making it immune to normal
jitter levels. If tweaking the digital output makes an audible
difference, this is due to inadequacies at the receiving (DAC) end, and
any efforts in improvement should be spent there.

Many buttons don't work, for example server settings "Apply" "Rescan"

[slim] Minnesota Public Radio 128 Stream

2008-04-06 Thread Ralph 411

Minnesota Public Radio's published 128kb stream,
http://minnesota.publicradio.org/tools/play/streams/classical.pls,
worked on our two SqueezeBoxes until Friday. Now it won't work on
either SB, but does work on our PC through Winamp. The URL
http://205.234.179.203/, captured through ShoutCast, works at present,
but is not MPR's published URL.

In addition, the audio level of this stream recently has gone up 5 to
10 db and is now overloading both digital and analog outputs on peaks.

Any ideas or suggestions?

[slim] Navigating music

2008-04-06 Thread herts101

Had my Duet for a few days now (1st Squeezebox!) and absolutely loving
it. Order about to go in for an additional receiver.

I have a few questions about navigating through my music which I
wondered whether anyone could help with:

1. There is lots of reference in the forums to pressing and holding
Add (+) to add a song to the next position in the playlist as opposed
to the end of the playlist. This would be cool but I can't seem to get
it to work. Is it implemented on the Duet?

2. Is there anyway to start an album in the middle and have the
Squeezebox play that track followed by all the other ones on it? (i.e.
I'd like to play tracks 5,6,7,8,9 and 10 of a 10 track album without
programming them all into the playlist individually.

3. I find it a bit risky when programming a new playlist on the
controller that if I accidentally press Play, all my hard work is
erased. I know there have been loads of threads on this and many
people feel differently but that is my initial impression.

I'd like to change the behaviour of the Play button so that rather than
clear the current playlist and start playing the track immediately, it
adds in the track as next on the playlist and then starts playing it
(leaving the rest of the playlist intact).

If that is not possible, I'd at least like it to add in the track to
the bottom of the current playlist and start playing it immediately
(again leaving the rest of the playlist intact as I can then navigate
back to it).

Is there anyway of making these changes by editing the button maps?

Thank you very much for your help.

Peter.

Yes, but the key word you're using is "notably". AFAIK none of the mods
have stood up to the blind test. That means that no improvements have
been shown to do much, besides cost more, and make you feel better
about spending money.

Personally, if I had $250 to burn, I would buy some new CDs. :-)

and 99% of my files are FLAC

"You mean the scan didn't find them, but they would work if you played
them
from Browse Musicfolder?"

Yes, and after that they appeared under artists and album ?

so that my count of albums went from 1107 to 1115

I could hear that that server was scanning while i browsed those files
in Musicfolder.

Ripping etc it's done on other machines, but the Björks was ripped on
my win XP partition except for one that was ripped on a friends OSX.
I transfered those files to my servers via SMB from my Ubuntu desktop,
if it's matter's the files where on a NTSF disc in my machine :-)

And now the clear and rescan is ready... not good it didn't pick up
these discs

[slim] Squeezebox Duet data format change

2008-04-06 Thread Alex Peychev

Hello,

Is there an easy way changing the FPLD data format output from I2S to
MSB in the new Duet? I thought it's possible since the Transporter is
MSB.

Thanks!

Re: [slim] Connection issue to Mac

2008-04-06 Thread pippin

Is this a MacBook? And do you connect through WLAN?
Mine tends to shut off WLAN after a while if it's not used so you
cannot reach the mac from the outside. If you open any connection
(reloading an internet page or something) it works again.

On a Windows Server 2008/Vista machine it's
c:\ProgramData\SqueezeCenter\Cache
Try to remove the SD card and then SBC should find the files in the
cache folder. My SBC does.

[slim] SBC randomly rebooting

2008-04-06 Thread Mitch Harding
Ever since I moved from SC 7.0 to SC 7.0.1, I've noticed that my SBC
occasionally spontaneously restarts. It appears to happen most often after
I select a track from my playlist and hit play. Sometimes after I do this,
the SBC goes black and restarts.

I pretty much always use Random Mix, if that's relevant.

This doesn't impact the music playback, of course. And since the SBC is
booted back pretty quickly, it doesn't really bother me too much. I wanted
to bring it up here to see if anyone else has observed this. I searched in
bugzilla but did not see any similar reports. I'll probably open a bug on
it later today, unless someone points me to one that I missed.

Thanks,
Mitch

What file formats are you using?

I've done a few changes to the file path handling which fixed a bunch of
open bugs. No good if they re-introduced old bugs :-(.

You mean the scan didn't find them, but they would work if you played them
 from Browse Musicfolder?

Are you editing, ripping, managing these files all on that machine, or are
you using Windows or OSX across the network, using Samba?

[slim] Rerunn of old scanner bug or not (2475 )

2008-04-06 Thread Mnyb

Hi i recently noticed that scanner won't scan folders with "foreign "
characters in the folder name ? at least not the nordic/swedish
character "ö".
As all my Björk and Röyksopp music was gone.
And it will not scan files with "ö" in the tags.

Proved by this workaround, if i go to each folder via "music folders"
and start each album then the artist and album shows up (with slightly
broken images at some places).

But for the songs with "ö" i had to play each and every song, then they
show up in albums etc.

That for for "scan for new or changed music" or what.

Now I'm in the process of a complete clear and rescan I supect that
this work around won't survive that I'll post when it's done.

Please inform me if theres an never bug on this, then I can vote there.

edit server info etc:

SqueezeCenter-version: 7.0.1 - 17889 - Red Hat - SV - utf8
Server IP address: 192.168.1.5
Perl-version: 5.8.5 i386-linux-thread-multi
MySQL-version: 4.1.20

Platform Architecture: i686-linux

Name: mikael

Model: Squeezebox v3

Firmware: 86

Re: [slim] Squeeze controller losing network connection

2008-04-06 Thread FatClemenza

Same issues as everyone else. I downloaded the latest build which only
served to make the controller angry.

Anyhoo, after rebooting the controller about 6 times it finally got a
good connection and held it. I had been keeping track of the IP
addresses of all my devices and the controller was always getting
assigned to 199 until that last time. Once it was assigned to 197 it
worked like a charm.

I'm no networking guru so I can't figure why it wasn't cooperating with
199. The only thing at all remarkable about 199 is that it's the last IP
in the DHCP range.

I hope this helps.

Router: D-Link DIR-655
Go to: Setup > Network Settings to reserve an IP for the MAC address of
the controller.

Which cache folder - I've 3 under SqueezeCenter (CPAN/cache, lib/cache
and CPAN/Tie/cache).
I have the 2 mentioed files in the folder slimnas\var\squeezecenter

It would have been nice if there was a step-by-step guide to update
JIVE using SSH.
