That very likely was the player firmware, but not the Controller's
firmware. You can always check it in Settings->Advanced->About

Go to Windows' start menu -> SqueezeCenter. There's a tool to manage the

Well, the firmware updated when I loaded 7.2.1 but I didn't check it
before reverting back to 7.2. The controller reverted back to the
previous version when I downgraded back to 7.2.

[slim] DOA/Broken duet and logitech support

2008-10-26 Thread tin

Unfortunately my duet had a dead reciever. I didn't really fancy sending
the whole thing back to Dabs cos it's quite a big box. So no problems, I
used the recommended web form ( at
http://slimdevices.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/slimdevices.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php
) to ask if Logitech can replace just the reciever, and used the
controller with my SB3.

A couple of "you've emailed the US, we'll pass your request on to
European" mails (both from "Logitech EMEA support") came and went, and
then the controller developed a fault - a pixel width white line right
across the screen that won't go no matter what I do.

So I've resigned myself to sending the whole lot back to Dabs after
all.

However, the point of this post I suppose, just to let you all know
especially those wanting their tunes in multiple rooms, that according
to Logitech EMEA support "the receiver of the Logitech Squeezebox Duet
is not available as a stand alone accessory for replacement or for
sale". ;)

Communication, they have heard of it

[slim] question about squeezecenter services on XP

2008-10-26 Thread friendlyfire

Hi, I've been surfing the forum and in some posts a "Squeezecenter
service" is referred to, and it is not SqueezeMySql.

SqueezeMySql is the only service that I can see associated with
Squeezecenter. Everything is working fine, so I do not think there is a
problem, but I'm interested because

a) its weird I don't seem to have a service running that everyone else
does.
b) Squeezecenter won't start automatically on my XP machine, so perhaps
this is a clue. (some gremlin keeps deselecting the item "start
squeezecenter on login")

thanks

No you're not. I cam across a site the other day that was basically a

Favorites is there to store your favorite playlists and radio stations
etc. It's not meant for storing individual tracks and then playing them
all, as that is what a playlist is for!

You can make playlists and save them via your controller or remote
(i.e. no computer). There is an inbuilt enabled "Save Playlist" plugin.
This is the way to achieve what you want, not by using favorites.

alexdemaet;353661 Wrote:

If you have an always on internet connection it may be worth looking at
it as can also provide what you want.

alexdemaet;353661 Wrote:

It might be best if you played around with your set up a little (or
even read through some of the extensive documentation). The shuffle
function is very hard to miss. It only takes a few seconds to try it
and then you'd have the answer to your question which is yes,
shuffle plays the tracks in any chosen playlist in a random order, i.e.
it shuffles them. I'm certain it is exactly the function you want.

Player Statistics : Bedroom
Help > Server & Network Health > Player Statistics

The server is currently collecting performance statistics for this

You may set warning thresholds for each measurement. Events which
exceed this threshold will be logged to a log file. The log is stored
at: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\SqueezeCenter\Logs\perfmon.log
Signal Strength
This graph shows the strength of the wireless signal received by your
player. Higher signal strength is better. The player reports signal
strength while it is playing.

Warning Thresholds : Low High
Buffer Fullness
This graph shows the fill of the player's buffer. Higher buffer
fullness is better. Note the buffer is only filled while the player is
playing tracks.

Squeezebox1 uses a small buffer and it is expected to stay full while
playing. If this value drops to 0 it will result in audio dropouts.
This is likely to be due to network problems.

Squeezebox2/3 uses a large buffer. This drains to 0 at the end of each
track and then refills for the next track. You should only be concerned
if the buffer fill is not high for the majority of the time a track is
playing.

Playing remote streams can lead to low buffer fill as the player needs
to wait for data from the remote server. This is not a cause for
concern.

I'm sorry, there's a bug in that code: when calling the title parser, you
have to send the "status" instead of the "result" variable.

this is what i am getting:

Performance Summary : Bedroom

update this display.

Reset
Summary

Control Connection : OK
Streaming Connection : OK
Signal Strength: OK
Buffer Fullness: Low
Server Response Time : Occasional Poor Response

Warnings

The playback buffer for this player is occasionally falling lower than
ideal. This is a Squeezebox2/3 and so the buffer fullness is expected
to drop at the end of each track. You may see this warning if you are
playing lots of short tracks. If you are hearing audio dropouts, please
check your network signal strength.

Your server response time is occasionally longer than desired. This may
cause audio dropouts, especially on Slimp3 and Squeezebox1 players. It
may be due to background load on your server or a SqueezeCenter task
taking longer than normal

That's what I needed, an example of how to do it. Your explanation

Definately 100 C.

Have you stopped SC before editing server.prefs? If you don't then it

100 F is nothing. 100 C is bad.

My laptop just hit 81 C, but I was streaming video, which is a big

My thinking exactly - 50 or 60 degrees I could understand, but 100 must
be well outside the device spec.

I measured the voltage being supplied by the external PSU at 5.17V off
load, which seems reasonable. The SB3 is drawing 1.45A, with the

[slim] craddle/case/silicon-skin/etc. for the controller?

2008-10-26 Thread schiegl

Hi,

with audio playback comming the SBC will extend it's range and leave
the neighborhood of my Slim Players and become one itself. So some sort
of case would be really handy. Additional craddles would be handy too,
so i can place a few around the house.

Do you (Slimdevices/Logitech) have any plans for such accessories? And
please don't forget us in europe :-)

thanks!

Ross,
I don't know if I am in the general case but under OS X.5.5 (upgraded
many times, OS X and SlimCenter/Squeezecenter too) my Jive files seem
to be in ~/Library/Caches/SlimServer.

Under debian (ubuntu too I guess), the location would be:
/var/lib/squeezecenter/cache

Now I'll be loading this firmware. Thanks for your work.

Re: [slim] Artwork Display

2008-10-26 Thread Michael Herger
> I'm still stumped on trying to make my html detect when the player is
> Paused/Stopped or powered On/Off using the below reference. I've

Ok, I think we have to start with some basics here ;-). When using
SqueezeJS you shouldn't need to care about that player state and querying
SC etc. SqueezeJS.Controller should do this for you. It will then signal
eg. "playerstatechange" events whenever the current player has changed
some status (play mode, playlist, volume etc.). All of the SqueezeJS.UI
components do this for you: they listen to this event, receive the new
player state information when it happens, and update themselves
accordingly.

So what you need is some component which will use the "mode" part of the
player status to update itself.

> attached my html. What I'd like is to replace the Title with "Now
> Stopped" whenever the player is stopped, "Now Paused" when the player
> is paused, and "Powered OFF" when the player is powered off. Any
> suggestions?

In this case you might want to use something based on
SqueezeJS.UI.RawTitle:

SqueezeJS.UI.MyTitle = Ext.extend(SqueezeJS.UI.Component, {
onPlayerStateChange : function(status){
var title;

// overwrite
if (status.mode == 'stop')
title = 'Stopped';
else if (status.mode == 'pause')
title = 'Paused';
// assuming we're playing
else
title = SqueezeJS.SonginfoParser.title(result,
this.noLink, false,
true);

this.el.update(title);
}
});

Then use new SqueezeJS.UI.MyTitle() instead of RawTitle in your page.

As mentioned above this component will be signalled a state change
whenever there's one. It's also sent the new status object. "mode" is part
of this object (as is a lot more information - see the "status" CLI
query). So instead of using the title in any case (as does RawTitle()), it
checks the player mode and displays something else accordingly. Does this
make any sense?

FWIW: if you're seriously trying to do some JavaScript work, you should
get Firefox and install the Firebug add-on. This is a tool which will let
you inspect whatever is going on in SqueezeJS. You could eg. step through
the above onPlayerStateChange() method, inspect the full status object and
learn about what other information would be available to it.

have set - via adv->network (I think) the max wma bitsream rate from

its a slimp2 so there is no network test available.
i have set via adv-perforamnce service priority to 20 - no change.

[slim] Odd 'Can't connect to SC' issue

2008-10-26 Thread mr-b

My SB3 often has trouble in reconnecting to SC (7.2) when cold booted.
It seems to boot successfully but fails at the last step. I manually
went through all the network config steps to verify that it was just
the SC connect that was the issue.

However from the SC PC itself I was surprised to find that I couldn't
ping the SB3 on the address that it said it had obtained. I dug a
little deeper and "arp -a" showed that the ip address was indeed mapped
to the SB3's MAC address but ping still didn't work. I moved the SB3
next to the wireless router with no change.
Finally I tried rebooted the wireless router (Linksys WRT54GX-v2
firmware 2.00.20) even though other wireless devices were working, and
suddenly the SB3 connected to SC just fine. It is also pingable.

Any ideas what went wrong? I really don't think that it's just the
router that's at fault here.

FYI - You just need an exception in the firewall on the server machine
to allow access from a networked machine. Just add whatever port MIP is

Re: [slim] Hard drive storage suggestions

2008-10-26 Thread bobkoure

If you're running RAID in windows, be careful that what you're using is
actually a hardware RAID.
There are a lot of software-in-windows-driver raids that don't perform
any better than the software raid that comes with the various windows
server releases - but my experience with them has been 'way less than
stellar - as in one drive failing causing the other drives to be
"scribbled" on - two separate instances at different sites.
And in either kind of software raid, I'd strongly suggest raid 10 over
a raid 5 - remember, parity is -not- being done in a dedicated
processor.

If I just had a bunch of drives that I wanted to make look like just
one drive, I'd look for an adapter that supported JBOD ("just a bunch
of disks").

Re: [slim] Musicip with external HD?

2008-10-26 Thread friendlyfire

I run music IP with an external HD, and everything works fine. I found I
needed to access the music IP server page from a browser session on the
server itself (and not from another networked machine). You should be
able to punch in e:\music as the path. I hope that is helpful.

It's in the documentation (the paper).
IIRC it involves resetting the *controller* to factory defaults, then
the receiver.
Then run the setup with ethernet connected.
It's a bit of a hassle, agreed.

[slim] TwonkyMedia server using port 9000?

2008-10-26 Thread probedb

Hi all,

Anyone know how to get around this?

I can access SqueezeCentre on the server using 127.0.0.1:9000 but
externally, Twonky seems to have stolen the port number even when I've
changed it to respond on 9001?

Cheers?

Re: [slim] Controller doesn't reconnect to network after sleep - Please post your issues

2008-10-26 Thread jmschnur

I brought my receiver down to my router, I took the battery ut of the
controller and then put it back in. I then plugged in the receiver.
This worked after a 5-10 minute wait.

I then unplugged the reciever and put it where it belongs.

I had to turn the receiver on and off and unplug it once it this
worked.

I do not have a connection to the Slim internet radio channels.

Trying to connect to these leads me to a dark receiver and I needed to
go through the above procedure to get things working.

However my slimserver works fine for my ripped music.

Clearly there are serious software/firmware issues that need to be
addressed.

Help??

[slim] Customising a Duet controller

2008-10-26 Thread Northern Exposure

Has anyone any experience of a customised duet controller? The
modification is by a firm called 'audiocom international'
(www.audiocom-uk.com). I am interested in their 'digital' upgrade which
is priced at £119. Various claims are made on their website e.g improved
detail, more natural tones etc.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has tried this upgrade.

Also, am I alone in thinking that there is an audible difference
between flac and wav played through the duet? I am currently feeding
into a Beresford DAC. The wav files sound slightly 'fuller' or is it
just my imagination? Having read a number of comments on this subject,
most appear to suggest that you cannot actually hear any difference.

Puzzled.

100 degrees on a CPU? - that cannot be right. Must be a faulty m-board
or PSU in the SB3. Can you check the current being drawn by the PSU
with a multimeter?

Oh dear. Is there some reason why you want to reduce your music to such

Perhaps you should use a decent ripper (EAC, dbPowerAmp etc) and a
decent format (FLAC, lossless ALAC etc).

Re: [slim] Multiple Albums?

2008-10-26 Thread phantomwhale

I've been getting this problem off LOTS of freshly ripped CDs. I am
ripping using MediaMonkey (with AAC plugin) ripping to 128kbps AAC
format.

The albums (single disc albums) are appearing up to three times in the
squeeze center library on my duet controller. One particular album I
asked MediaMonkey to clean all the tags from and rebuild just the basic
tags, but after a rescan it's still chopped quite randomly into three
parts.

Have been just soldiering through, ripping my CDs, but more and more
are getting this bug. Not complex double-albums, just simple albums
tagged from FreeDB and checked.

Is there some sort of low-level tag / database reading tool I can use
to examine exactly why two tracks are regarded as "not in the same
album" ? Perhaps then I can understand better if this is my tools
mucking things up (which even if they are, it seems a little
over-sensitive on squeezecenter's part) or if there is a potential bug
report to submit.

Think I am on 7.2 - not too keen to move to nightly builds just yet...

Ben

You are not really saying, but I assume you use iTunes for ripping. In
that case auto mode is fine, but you should make sure that you iTunes
does not apply error correction. I would certainly not let iTunes
upsamle to 192.

However you should know that iTunes might not be the best choice for
ripping if you are very concerned about the quality of your rips. Many
people, and in particular "audiophiles" use the flac-format and EAC for
ripping (lately I hear dbpoweramp is also becoming increasingly popular
as it is easier to use and the latest verions provide very good quality
rips)

Another reason for using flac with the SB3 is that flac is natively
supported in the SB3 (and other Slim-products) while Apple Lossless is
transcoded on the server. It is no showstopper, Apple will work and
many people use it. Here are a few links you can have a look at:

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Beginners_Guide_To_Ripping
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/EAC_Ripping_In_Depth
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/EACRipping

Also there is a subforum here on ripping/transcoding which I recommend
you have a look at.

[slim] Overheating SB3 CPU ?

2008-10-26 Thread Adam_F

My SB3 recently developed a fault in that it now invariably crashes
after a brief period of use (display goes blank and no sound). It is
now out of warranty, and as this is now the third hardware fault I have
had with this unit, I am inclined to bin it rather than pay for a
further repair. However, I thought I would make some attempt to
diagnose the problem first.

When this SB3 was repaired previously, the symptoms were exactly the
same. On that occasion, the wireless card was found to be the cause and
it was replaced. Based on a guess that I had the same issue again I
replaced the wireless card myself, but this did not solve the problem.
Removing the wireless card completely did not stop the crashes either,
but the SB3 did run for considerably longer before doing so without the
card in situ. Then I noticed that the CPU (IP3023) was running very hot.
Holding a temperature probe against the CPU (i.e. not the best thermal
contact), the probe read 100 degrees celcius after a few minutes.

Is this normal (doubtful), or could this point to the root cause (a
problem with the power circuitry feeding the CPU for example). Can
anyone suggest where to look next ?

Thanks, Adam.

Same problem here.
Have a Boom, which connects wireless without any issue.
The SB receiver works fine and is connected wired, but the SB
controller... that's turning out to be a sad story.
The controller loses connection to the music source after 30 sec of
none use, almost as fast as the screen turns off. as long as you use
it, no prob, but when you stop it won't find the music source or the SB
receiver anymore.
am using 7.2 as server SW.
My Netgear WPNT834 has been reconfigured to only accept B and G
wireless devices.

It would be great to solve the issue as I have a couple more projects
with SB lined up !

However - now some of my old MP3 will no longer play. No sound -
everything else seems OK. That is - they will seem to play - time on

The problem is the same regardless of method - Controller - artist ...

NOTE: when using Softsqueeze, the music plays OK, so there is nothing
wrong with the files.

Is this an issue with the firmware attached to 7.2.1?

I'm not sure I've understood you correctly but just in case I have.

1) Why don't you add your favourites to a playlist instead of making
them favourites in the first place? It sounds like the zapped songs
playlist might suit you... if it still exists (I've never used it so
don't know).
If you use Last.fm you could "love" your favourite tracks as you come
across them and then play them all through your Last.fm Loved Tracks
radio (which is what I do).

2) As for randomizing a playlist. Is there a reason why the inbuilt SC
"shuffle" function doesn't suit you?

Being honest I am not sure what I am doing here but thought you might
be able to assist.

Up until recently, I was converting using iTunes to AAC @ 192/44. Then
I was told that this was a lossy format so recently I have changed to
Apple Lossless in Auto mode. This is significantly better, I orginally
tried AIFF, but found it too shrill in Auto mode so opted for Apple
Lossless.

Is this the right way to be importing the music, in auto mode or should
I set them at 192/44 or similar ?

For information the rest of my system is:

Exposure XVII (Pre)
2 x Exposure XVII (Power - Biamping)
Epos ES-14 + Stands

P.

Re: [slim] Announcement Squeezecenter 7.2.1

2008-10-26 Thread epoch1970

Version 7.2.1~23629 currently in testing had a craptacular effect on my
system. Player menus are hosed and the web gui doesn't seem to control
much anymore.
I tried synching players, I think things went downhill from there.

Previous 7.2.1 version was much better. I hope you're not going to
commit this as a stable. Right now I am seeking shelter in unstable...

I should archive versions I guess.

[slim] Feature request: add all the "favorites" to a playlist

2008-10-26 Thread alexdemaet

It's quite time consuming to add a favorite one by one to a playlist.
It would be also nice to be able to play the "favorites" without having
to add them to a playlist.
It would also be nice to be able to randomize a playlist, because every
time you select a playlist it plays in the same order.

[slim] Feature Request: YouTube Plugin

2008-10-26 Thread pippin

We've had the discussion here, which other music sources SC could
support.
I've got an additional favorite: YouTube!

I don't care for the video, just a single frame as cover art would be
perfectly fine, but I find myself searching for Music I don't have and
want to discover, mainly through YouTube. There's simply everything
there.

But having the sound on my stereo and being able to set favorites in SC
would be a gas...

I can only suggest that you carefully:
- check your encryption key
- clear encryption key on your Duet
- re-enter key on Duet
- be very careful you have not accidentally added a blank *space* in
the key

You might want to start by temporarily making the encryption key
ridiculously short (like just 4 letters) just for testing purposes.
Obviously you will want to change this when you are solidly connecting.
:)

I only use WPA2 with AES on all devices including an SB3 and Boom and
they work fine, so I'm guessing your problem is with your encryption
key.

[slim] Songs stutter/skip - where do I start?

2008-10-26 Thread bouton

Setup:
HP T5720 AMD Geode™ NX 1500 1.0 GHz,512 MB DDR SDRAM,512 MB Flash RAM
Fedora 9 Live USB
Squeezecenter SqueezeCenter Version: 7.2.1 - 23448 installed on Fedora
on USB stick
Music on mounted network drive
wired network
Music mostly MP3s, some wav, some wma
Latest Alien BBC installed, with mplayer, lame and ffmpeg

When I play music it seems to stutter, skip, stop sometimes comes up
"rebuffering"
Radio seems to play fine (says 128kb)

Where do I start in trying to figure out how/where to fix this? Is it a
hardware issue? Is it a software/setting issue?

thanks

[slim] Daylight Saving QNAP Problem

2008-10-26 Thread TerryHawkins

Hi,

The clocks went back in the UK last night and my Squeezebox is still
displaying the old time.

I am running the progressive version of slimserver on a QNAP TS109.

At the last change I had to putty into slimserver and change a line to
get the correct time, i was hoping to put this back to normal and all
would be fine, however the line has gone back to it's original state.

Can I just delete the portion of line as before or is there another
solution?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for catching this. The fix will be in the next release.

I've also updated the help screen to clearly describe the difference
between -r/--retry.

I was going to fix the cli parsing for this release as it's always
bugged me as well, but figured it would break too many "run scripts"
that people were using.

I've come across several verions of glib in which the optional
parameters to cli options, like that used for the -r/--retry option
which didn't work at all. Having --retry NOT need a value and -r
require one was the best compromise for a work around.
