Looking at the answers and the plugin, I'm not the first to meet this problem :). Boom effectively solved the problem with special brightness h/w - IIRC during beta users requested dimmer settings than were initially provided. Another alternative would be to create your own font (e.g. use exisintg font and make letters thinner). I believe it's not too hard but tedious. I can't remember the process in detail but basically either edit with a standard graphics tool or there is a conversion tool from a TrueType font. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55353 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Break Synchronization for an Alarm
I have three SB's. I normally leave them synced all the time so that I hear music as I'm wandering around the house. However, in the morning, when I get woken up by the SB alarm, I don't need to be blasting music all around the house. I only want my SB that is in my bedroom to go off. Of course, I can manually unsync them all before I go to bed, however that is a pain to do each day. Ideally what I would like is that the alarm would only go off on the SB that you set the alarm for. After you have shutoff the alarm, any subsequent play command would then obey the synchronization settings. Is this possible at all? Re: [slim] Report on powerline ethernet (five weeks later)
Thanks DeVerm. I redid the setup and connected to the powerline adapter. Worked great for a few minutes then lots of drops. A network test showed a steady 100% bar, suddenly a quick and brief drop to zero. This pattern persisted and I could not get a reliable signal, so the powerlines go back today. My house was built in 1933 and the attic has new wiring, unlike rooms on the bottom three floors. I have to assume it's my old wiring causing the problem. Weird problem with Squeezebox. I cannot get a good wireless signal when accessing the music on my harddrive during the morning, at least not in the attic. Oddly, my laptop says the Wi-Fi signal is 'excellent, usually 88% to 100%, in the attic. Starting later in the morning or early afternoon the problem disappears. Fortunately, Squeezenetwork usually works fine any time of the day. I set the buffer to 30 seconds just in case (not sure if there's a downside to that). I may try a WiFi extender to see if that fixes the problem. (I bet an updated Squeezebox Duet receiver with N capability would eventually solve my issues in the attic). -- jbart1965 jbart1965's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18344 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27990 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Report on powerline ethernet (five weeks later)
jbart1965;362528 Wrote: Thanks DeVerm. If you're in the US, I have one suggestion before you toss the powerline stuff. US houses are frequently wired with two phases (two different 110 supplies, to keep it simple). Outlets throughout the house (and often in each room) are mixed between the two to spread the load. Powerline signals reputedly don't always cross phases readily, and so adapters on different phases can be nonfunctional. If your server side adapter is plugged into a circuit on a different phases from the one in the attic, you could have problems. The suggestion, is try the server side adapter in a different wall plug. It may or may not make a difference. Plan B suggestion - there are do-it-yourself signal boosters, that take about 5 minutes and require ZERO technical capability. We're talking glue, aluminum foil and paper or cardboard. Google, you'll find many choices. I did this and the improvement was shocking. Alternatively, you could try buying new antennas for your router. Boosting the signal is a way to get the result without disturbing the status quo (if you choose to get a new router or repeater). Oh, I forgot - maybe you're getting interference from neighbors or in-house devices. Try netstumbler to see if you're on a crowded channel, check your wireless phone frequency. [slim] 7.2.1 Responsiveness
I am noticing that with 7.2.1 at random intervals the players, especially the Boom from what I see, have horrible response tims to the remote. This is on a high performance Windows Vista 64 station and plenty of everything - not a resource or bandwidth issue. When I get to the computer to see what is going on, the Squeezecenter window lags for a while until it opens. [slim] Server delay when browsing folders
I currently have 4 Squeezeboxes since I started with my first SB2 many years ago. However since I updated to version 7 of SS I have noticed a very annoying delay in the responsivness. I normally use browse folders when searching for my music, now the server takes a break of about 8-10 seconds for some, not all directories. The delay is always there or completely missing. This delay is regardless of the number of tracks or dirctories in this directory. Same delay can happen for only 1 entry as well as 200. Top-level folder with 297 objects always works fast. Browsing by Genre, Artist,... is fast. I know that SS will scan each directory always when browsing folders, but I dont understand the delay for very small folders. Some very large folders does not have any delay. I currently use SS 7.2.1 but had the same issues on 7.1. Same delay when using Duet, IR-remote, Softsqueeze and Web-interface. I checked the Activities on the server and during the 8-10 second pause: 1. The mysqld.exe process has 20% CPU 2. The harddrive makes reading noise, as it is trying to read a lot of info. XP pro, 3.2GHz, 2GB RAM. 18,000 songs maybe 60% FLACs in total. Re: [slim] DIR-655 or Airport Extreme for Duet Controller?
DIR-655 has also worked great for me, though I did replace one of the 3 antennas with a directional unit due to long distance and many walls. That actually is one of the nice things about the DLink units, that it is easy to replace their low gain omnidirectional antennas. Our access point sits at one corner of the house (downstairs), so it is extremely suboptimal to use omnidirectional antennas (we have a number of directional antennas now, which have led to much better performance). -- ncarver ncarver's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15905 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55358 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
