Today I tried to run Slacker on my SB3, and received the message: You have logged in on another device, press PLAY to restart. I was playing Slacker on my Boom yesterday, but the Boom was turned off today when this happened. The only way I could get the error to clear out was to start playing something other than Slacker on my Boom. I'm not a windoze fan (i.e. there may be windows gurus here that have better suggestions) but here is what I would do given the constraint of spending as little as possible (while still using iTunes): Buy a larger USB HDD. Such drives are usually only $20US to $50US more then buying the HDD w/o a case. (FYI, a NAS** while more fixable, is usually $50US to $150US more.) If there are not enough USB ports on your laptop, pick up a USB hub. These should be inexpensive. About $5US to $15US. First off, I am assuming you are using iTunes to rip and manage your music collection. (I hate iTunes as it contently assumes what I want to do.) Never the less, I believe there are many places describing how to migrate iTunes collections between HDDs. Read up, check twice before proceeding, and migrate your collection to the larger HDD. At this point I am not sure you need to anything more as iTunes may actually hide the fact the files have been moved from SqueezeCenter. So I would "play it by ear". If SqueezeCenter can find the iTunes files you may be done. If not, try telling SqueezeCenter to rescan. ...good luck --- **A NAS (Networked Accessible Storage) hard disk drive can be used by computers which are usually on the same network. If you go this route be prepared to pay more for the NAS then the equivalent sized USB disk. You now will also need a switch (about $15US to $30US) to connect the NAS, lap top and squeezebox. The obvious advantage is that you no longer need your lap top on to access your files on the NAS. However, because the slimdevices paradigm was to build the "slimest" client possible, a computer is required to be available to run SqueezeCenter (for things like data base manipulation, transcoding music when necessary and managing the client's controls and display). There are NAS boxes that have been "hacked" to provide these features (i.e. run SqueezeCenter). But re-purposing these boxes is NOT for the "casual user". There may be some "turn-key" SqueezeCenter solutions available that operate similar to NAS boxes. But I have never looked into this. As desk top computers have become less expensive, more powerful and less power demanding (i.e. less power, less heat => less fan noise) the need to re-purpose a small NAS box is evaporating. --- Now, all that said... If you feel up to taking a risk... And want to try to re-purpose a *re-furbished* NAS... Try searching for a Buffalo HS-DH250GL. I believe this product is at end-of-life and can be had for less then $75US from some vendors. I looked into this a bit myself and believe this is one of those ARM based processor NAS boxes that can be loading with linux and squeezecenter. I do question if it is powerful enough to do everything expected of a real computer (i.e. I bet it will falter if transcoding is required - so your music may have to be encoded to something native to your SB). But, like I said, you would be taking a risk going this route. ...have fun ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Cover art support has changed dramatically over the past (about) 2 years. It would help if you posted the version of SqueezeCenter / Slimserver you are using. Alternatively, you could upgrade to the latest SqueezeCenter and see if the behaviour is more of what you would expect. My guess is they did this to support the Duet. Re: [slim] Any advantages to a second SB-dedicated wireless network?
If signal strength is an issue and you can increase that with the dedicated AP, then that's an obvious advantage. Note that if you want to use SN the player has to be able to get to the outside world, so you may want to connect the two networks together (I have several APs around the house all on the same logical network). On the upgrade question, the SB2 is generally considered the best player in weak signal situations due to the combination of large buffer (same as SB3) and external antenna. -- radish radish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=77 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59089 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I just got a 1 TB Time Capsule to back up all of our laptops wirelessly (and it also has an airport extreme base station). All works fine, but the signal can be weak at times. So now I have an extra base station which I could setp up downstairs as a closed network between the SB, my laptop, and a dedicated music hard drive. It would not even need to be on the net, since I can use Squeeze network for internet radio. Would there be any advantage to this setup? [slim] Squeezebox connected directly to PC with wireless card
As I have no wireless internet access in my sitting room and this is where my PC is, I've installed Squeezebox by connecting it directly to my PC's internal wireless card. I can play music from the PCs Music Library fine onto my hi-fi. However I cannot access the SqueezeNetwork or Radio stations. I understand that to do this the Squeezebox needs to connect to a wireless router or access point that has a direct internet connection. My problem is that my wireless signal doesn't reach this room. HOWEVER the PC mentioned above and that I have connected directly to Squeezebox via its own wireless card does have a hardwired ethernet connection to the internet, and can access this source fine. Is there any way to configure the Squeezebox to know that it can get to the internet via this route, or am I stuffed? Seems odd that it can't make use of a perfectly good internet connection via this route (and I accept the PC will have to be on when I want to use this facility). I have had it scrobble before when it was synced to a "real" player. -- MeSue Sue http://www.last.fm/user/MeSue MeSue's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=985 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59061 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Multi disc sets not in order
No, It isn't working and my FLAC/Vorbis Tags are correct. This worked perfectly in prior versions to 7.3.2. Now my album listings are not correct for Various Artists Compilation groupings. All it took was an upgrade to 7.3.2 and rescan of my library to produce this problem. -- Bradley Bradley's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=46 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58606 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Artists not displaying
I recently upgraded SC to 7.3.2 and no longer see any artists in the Artist menu. I labeled my FLAC with Tag Scanner and MP3s with Dr.Tag correctly and I think this issue just showed up with the new SC upgrade. All the other fields are selectable and complete through the menu (genre, year, album, New music). I recently did a rescan to update my MusicIP plugin which is managed by Spicefly Sugarcube. I rarely chose music through the artist directory prefering to use my own organization through "Music Folder". However I wondered if anyone else had this problem. I have talked to Customer Service in the last year and have found them fairly unhelpful (last conversation with a rep entailed a dialogue about playlists and he told me that m3u files were not a supported music format. Had to explain that it was not a music file but a playlist file). -- SlimChances SlimChances's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=165 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59081 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] update cover art without full rescan
In my case it was the artwork displayed in the web browser interface of SqueezeCenter. I'd like to point out it's been a while since I had that issue and used that "fix", a few versions of SqueezeCenter have been released since, so the problem I had may no longer exist. I just made the post hoping it would help the original posters artwork problem. -- furonfour 'Last.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/wostu) - Chaos is the mother of all creation. furonfour's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17114 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59042 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] update cover art without full rescan
Can people be more explicit whether the problem they are experiencing is with art as it appears on the web browser interface or on the controller. A web browser and controller have different caches. I think refreshing the precache (e.g. by changing thumbnail size) is important for controller. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59042 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] update cover art without full rescan
I'm not exactly sure if this will work, I think it has for me in the past. I once replaced the album art of an album, did a rescan and noticed there was no change in the album art on the album itself, yet the album art on the songs themselves did change. Clearing the browser cache didn't help. I figured it had to be cached elsewhere, so I changed the size of the thumbnail display in the SqueezeCenter settings: Settings - Interface - Thumbnail Size After doing so, the artwork for the album was updated. I do still think you need to run the "Look for new and changed music" rescan prior to this. If this does work, it should help avoid doing the complete rescan. After it was done I changed the size back, and the image was still as it should be. Hope this helps. -- furonfour 'Last.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/wostu) - Chaos is the mother of all creation. furonfour's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17114 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59042 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] SqueezePlay not scrobbling
I just did a little test myself, but it does seem to be scrobbling for me. I downloaded the latest version of the 7.3.3 nightly just this morning, though I think it has always scrobbled for me ever since the first version. I think SqueezeCenter handles the scrobbling rather than the players themselves. I use WinAmp a lot to play (streaming from SqueezeCenter) from my library, which has no additional scrobbling stuff installed. Yet everything I play is sent to Last.FM. Might have been Last.FM having a glitch or are you still experiencing the same problem? They did a lot of work on their database again, have had a few instances where my profile was not available due to heavy database loads. -- furonfour 'Last.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/wostu) - Chaos is the mother of all creation. furonfour's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17114 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59061 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I'm running 7.3.2 and I've jut checked that my multi-disc Various Artists compilations are displaying correctly. Provided your tagging is consistent across the discs then it's working just fine for me.
