Re: [slim] Boom and Duet popular on Ebay

2009-03-09 Thread Andy8421

I wish it was different. I would agree that in many cases, products are
more expensive in Europe. Many arguments as to why, expensive
distribution channels, higher employment costs, the list goes on and
on. For the savvy European buyer, most of this can be circumvented by
buying from the US over the net. Back in the days of Slim you could
buy from their US site, and ship to Europe. Logitech have barred
European destinations from Slim on-line store and Europeans are now at
the mercy of a very flaky Logitech European distribution system and
sigificantly higher prices. To give a couple of examples, if I wish to
buy any Slim accessories I have to email customer service first because
I cant get them off the Slim site, and when the Boom was launched (in
spite of Boom's being 'stacked up in the backroom in mountain view') we
had to wait about a month while Booms filtered their way through a
distribution channel that was clearly more suited to wireless mice.

So the service has gone down, and prices have gone up. We do have
better beer however.

Re: [slim] Mac related question

2009-03-09 Thread pufnstuf

Hi 53mudg35

You can perform secure, AccurateRips directly in Mac OS X without
having to bother with Boot Camp etc. Just use XLD. Here is the
homepage: http://tmkk.hp.infoseek.co.jp/xld/index_e.html

XLD can create log files and also convert to multiple audio formats
during the one rip. For example you could rip to FLAC and MP3 VBR at
the same time. Handy if you want to rip a copy for your iPod as well as
Squeeze device!

Here is more information in the SqueezeBox WIKI:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Beginners_Guide_To_Ripping#X_Lossless_Decoder_.28XLD.29

Try it out before you setup Bootcamp, it will save you restarting
everytime you want to rip some new tunes! :-D

Enjoy

[slim] Mac related question

2009-03-09 Thread 53mudg35

This is my 1st post on this forum, I would like to say hi to all...

I am a windows guy and am thinking about getting the new mac mini to
replace my aging pc. From what I have read, it seems like the new mini
would work great with a squeeze. I have a few questions for those who
own both a mac and squeeze.

I am new to computer/network related music, i.e. I have not purchased
any music online nor have I ripped any of my CD's so please bear with
me and my lack of knowledge.

I plan on going FLAC so I assume it would be best to use a windows
session to perform my rips. For those who own macs and have gone with
FLAC, is it possible to use Boot Camp or one of the virtual machine
setups so that I could use windows software like EAC to rip the CD's to
a drive location that both OSX and XP could access and read?

Or does the Boot Camp XP only have access to a windows (NTFS) partion?

Thanks

I have solved my problem !
1/ I stopped the firewall on my server (actually, what is the port #
used by Acc ?)
2/ I have simply deleted the line "BIND ADDRESS" from the my.tt file
3/ I have modified the Squeezecenter seetings :
In the advance TAB, Security, authorize the IP addresses by putting a *
into the IP @ : eg. 192.168.1.2* to extend to other IP (I'm surprised,
because I'm already accessing to the server from my main PC :

So It is now working well !

For the 25 plus years I have been travelling to Europe, international
consumer goods (especially electronics) have always been considerably
more expensive than in the US. Always, and without considering VAT.
Computers, electronics, CDs, cameras, etc., you name it.

As far as I know, it's not seen simply with Logitech's products, but
with most products. Is your experience different?

That always surprised me. When I bought my SB3s, I checked out the

MeSue,

I have used a screen only protector ever since I got my Duets (not the
exact one but as specified in an earlier post I used a similar sized
phone one)

I also have a Harmony 1000 remote and got the full body protector for
that, it can be fiddly to fit and I am not sure I like the slightly
rubbery feel, it also makes it harder to seat in the cradle.

I am not sure how the full body protector will fit in the Duet cradle
there is not much room there.

[slim] Boom and Duet popular on Ebay

2009-03-09 Thread maggior

After seeing the prices of Booms and Duets at the Circuit City
liquidation sale, I was curious to see how flooded Ebay was with these
devices. I myself considered picking up a Boom to turn around and sell
on Ebay, but I decided to keep it. Now I'm looking for an additional
one :-).

Wow, there are a LOT of them, and many for very good prices. Also,
most have actually sold, again for very good prices. I saw some great
deals last night but decided to sleep on it. That was a mistake - the
good deals are gone now! :-(.

Presumably, people buying them on Ebay know what these devices are and
intend to use them, as opposed to people buying them from Circuit City
with the idea of making a quick buck on Ebay.

This seems to me like a pretty good indicator that these devices are
popular. As a fan of the devices and the team that makes them, I'm
glad to see it. It also shows how these devices will fly off the
shelves at a lower price point :-).

You should be installing Softsqueeze 3.7 from the Extras section on the

I'm sure that the team are well aware of Spotify - and Spotify are
certainly aware of Squeezeboxes. But imagine it would take quite a bit

Okay, mixup in terminology. Most of us understand the "standard"
plugins to be those that are included with SC package, *and* officially
supported by SD/Logi. SuperDateTime is neither of those.

If you want to include the 3rd party plugins that are available via the
Extensions Downloader then you have raised the ante considerably,
because it means Logitech installing something on the SN servers that
they don't support at present. That would add quite a load to the job
of SD/Logi tech support (SD/Logi staff may help on 3rd party plugins at

The opposite: I meant that one in particular. Superdatetime is in the
list of those plugin you can install via SC. You find it in advanced
setup, download extension utility (or something like this, I'm using
the italian version). Anyway: the tab before the last one (should be
"informations").

Well, then that would exclude SuperDateTime, which is one you said you
specifically wanted in your original post. Which is it?

Oh, and one correction to toby10's post about SrvrPowerControl. It
*can* be configured to reconnect players to SC when the local server
comes back up. Basically the plugin remembers which players were
connected to SC before switching the players over to SN and
suspending/hibernating the server. When the SC server starts up again
it goes out and grabs those players back to SC. It's really brilliant.

I'm not sure it's in the wiki plugin listings yet, but here is the main
support thread from the 3rd Party Plugins forum, which includes current
download links in post #1:

Wilkommen to the forums. You will probably get more responses to your
questions if you either (a) post this in the German language forum
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/forumdisplay.php?f=9) or (b) re-post it
here in English.

[slim] Squeezebox Classic & Buffalo Linkstation Live with Bittorrent

2009-03-09 Thread blacky_007

Hallo,

dann zeitaufreibend wieder starten muss.

blacky_007

Re: [slim] After upgrading java, I cant install Softsqueeze

2009-03-09 Thread Khuli

I updated java too, and now SC runs (as a service) for a few seconds and
then stops. I think Softsqueeze is fine, although obviously it just
loses contact with SC. Either way it's currently unusable :(

No, it's still a manual event. Once your SB3 is no longer connected to
SC then you have no access to plugins.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox radio for a car?

2009-03-09 Thread Beann50

I've been using a SB with a Linkstation in a car for about three years
now. This is actually the second car for the system and I had to
switch from a SB2 to a SB3 to fit in the dash of the new car. The
Linkstation also has a car PC power supply in it. It is still the
original drive in the Linkstation though. Since I live in the south I
thought the heat would have burned it up a long time ago.

The best part of the system is that it syncs up with the server inside
the house using the wireless card in the SB3 so that all of my music,
podcasts, and audiobooks are available at any of the 3 SB's in the
house or the one in the car. I tried to just use an ipod in the new
car like normal people, but got fed up and had the SB setup installed
within a few weeks.

even better if the SB3 can switch to SN when the pc is turned off.
Right now the user still has to manually switch the SB3 to connect to

Re: [slim] Help with volume normalization/ReplayGain

2009-03-09 Thread rossi

I didn´t get it running on my QNAP, so I decided to go a more pragmatic
way by using foobar2000 and scan replaygain over my connected PC.

That will cause me two full days of server and PC running , but I don´t
think that the slow QNAP alone would have been faster scaning a 15k flac
collection.
