Re: [slim] Softsqueeze sees server but wont play songs

I have the exact same problem. Can you tell me exactly how you solved
this?

Do we really need to forward 9000/3483 on the server, in addition to
22? Isn't the whole point of using ssh/22 so that we don't have to open
up 9000/3483?

Have to guess since I don't have any of these:
1. Do they work off the web interface (recently had some SN outages
here)
2. Have you tried "touch-and-hold" (holding an item for 1s)?

Sounds like one of your music 'folders' is really a shortcut to the real

That would explain why actions appear duplicated between both folders.

Re: [slim] Running SC on $100 Linux Wall Wart

2009-04-12 Thread sjschaff

I've been interested in a NAS for my Transporter and Squeezebox/Duet
environment for quite awhile (two different audio systems) to reduce
the footprint and complexity of managing files and making things a bit
simpler. However it appears that previous NAS boxes were simply too
slow and costly. The Shivaplug appears to fit the bill on both
performance and cost.

Do you feel that this platform will do the job? And, for a Linux
newbie, will it be reasonably simple to install Squeezecenter and get
it running properly?

I'm game but concerned at this point. I'd thought about using a
headless PC for this but that's a more costly solution and probably
overkill and not nearly as "green" a solution.

[slim] squeeze box V3 not fully turning on

2009-04-12 Thread n0cfed

my squeeze box v3 has stopped working suddenly and now all it does is it
turn on the display, show the logitech splash image, scroll over to the
squeeze box splash image then it goes blank. a few seconds later it
does it all over again in an endless loop. i have tried doing a hard
reset of holding the + key on the remote while plugging in the squeeze
box and it just very briefly shows the logitech image before it goes
blank, then again a few seconds later it does what it was doing before,
never getting past the squeeze box image. i know its responding to the
remote because as soon as i press the + key it goes blank then restarts
again.
any help on getting it working again would be appreciated

[slim] Weird Windows Vista question: Duplicated Music folder

2009-04-12 Thread gabe01

Okay, so I don't know exactly when this started, I just noticed it today
when trying to clean out my computer.

About 2 weeks ago, I transferred all of my MP3s from one computer to my
current one. I just noticed that now I have TWO Music Folders. They have
the exact same directory listings, exact same contents, and whatever
action is taken on folder appears to also happen to the other folder.
So if I delete a file on one folder, it deletes in the other one.

If you look at my C:\Users\(myname)\ , you'll see two Music folders.

I have NO idea how this happened, but the only adverse effect of this
seems to be that the amount of space my music takes up on my computer
is duplicated.

**Update: I remembered that my Tivo recordings folder is in here,
too, which accounts for a lot of the data. Still doesn't explain the
duplication, though! You can ignore this last paragraph!**I
don't know that this is related at all, but the size of both folders
appears to be extremely large...it's 43.0 GB for 2,753 files, almost
all of which are standard size MP3 files. A spot check of my many
sub-folders shows them all to be about the expected size (about 50-75
MB per album), so I can't tell at this point where all the extra data
is hiding.***

I'm hoping someone can help to shed some light on this??? Thanks!

Preserver connection keeps iPeng's connection to the server open. It
unfortunately has no influence on the iPod/iPhone shutting down WiFi,
that's beyond the control of an app.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, I haven't figured out, when.

Pippen, I'm loving this release with the ability to control my Booms on

One thing I'm struggling with is the Preserve connection though. I have

Although this doesn't seem to affect Chris, I experienced the problemm
between 7pm and 9pm as Plusnet limited bandwidth between the Squeezebox
device and iPlayer streams at that time. At other times they did not
limit this bandwidth.

It was Wireshark that eventually illuminated the matter for me.

Yes, I know. They'll improve a bit but after all the SqueezePlay menus
have less capabilities and rendering performance than iPeng's native
ones.

On sorting: iPeng relies on the server side sorting, too, in 1.1. The
reason is, that the server often has information for sorting that the
client simply doesn't get through the limited interface - for example
artistsort or albumsort tags.
Plus it takes quite a lot of time to sort.
So as long as the server doesn't support a sort order, iPeng will
usually not do that, too. But I'll check whether this applies in this
case, could you file a ticket?
Also, I would like to hear other opinions since I'm a bit reluctant to
add too many options.

Re: [slim] BBC WMA Radio streams cause my SB3 to reboot

2009-04-12 Thread chris.mason

Just doing some testing this morning.

The problem has appeared again, so I'm taking advantage of it!

- Direct vs proxied streaming makes no difference, the problem
remains.
- My Boom can play the Radio 4 stream without issue, but the SB3 keeps
rebooting.
- I can play the same stream on Softsqueeze 3.9b1 (transcoded to MP3)
- I sync'd the Boom with the SB3 and it seemed to work, although the
controls on the SC UI and the Boom UI become very slow. I think that
might have been SC transcoding to MP3 for Softsqueeze though (seems
very CPU intensive).

So, dunno if this tells us anything, except that its probably
somehthing particular to the SB3. Later, if I can get the problem to
re-occur I'll try MCs idea of using specific URLs from the ASX list,
and see if that makes a difference.
