Is this just a bad CUE sheet or are you indeed accessing your local files
using an UNC path? What's your audiodir set to?

I was wrong about the above. Both SB3 and Transporter need to have
Screensaver timeout to "1" to work properly.

I never use the knob, but I believe it's intended so that you can
'feel' the end of the list, but push through. I doubt that the magnetic
mechenism employed by the knob is capable of effecting a true hard stop.

Dunno about that one. In my experience setting the screensaver timeout
too low makes navigating difficult.

You can probably do so if you take the unit apart. I've kicked around
the idea of removing them and replacing them with some type of black cap
bolt.

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2009-07-04 Thread chp

Do you minimize Spotify before checking the cover? I noticed that the
call I make actually cannot take snapshots of minimized windows. I have
a fix coming, but it'll be a lower priority.

The workaround for now is just not minimize the window (it can be
completely covered by other windows, just not minimized or in the
systray).

Re: [slim] Why no Transporter Thread at the highest hierary level?

2009-07-04 Thread SamS

Just some strange things I noticed:

1) The knob seems to "slip" a bit when it gets to the end of a list.
Not a hard stop, it's almost like it's a bit loose. I realize it's IC
controlled and doesn't work like a regular knob. It just has a
different sensation than what I was expecting.

2) When setting up the Player->Basic Settings in the SC Web UI, the
minimum time you can put the screensaver time to to is "1", whereas my
SB3 let's me put it to "0" so my Music ISC plugin kicks on
instantaneously. If you put the Transporter screensaver time to "0", it
will never kick on.

3) I wish we could take the handles off, it would look so much nicer
without them.

4) The sound is very nice. I haven't A/B'd it against my SB3+DAC, I
just set it up in my office temporarily. But, the sound quality is
definitely there.

[slim] Windows 7 + Squezecentre + Disconnect from SBox

Using Windows 7 and SC Version: 7.3.2.

Since installing windows 7 I get frequent disconnects when the Sbox is

comes up with "Cannot connect to " and then goes back to the time of
day.

Any idea why this occurs and how to resolve?

I most certainly do not mean automatic tag setting - by management I
mean that the user manages the setting and stays in control. I would
just like to see an integrated - or at least consistent - set of tools
so I don't get, for example, the annoying situation of the tag tools
seeing just short of half my albums as not compilations and
SqueezeCenter seeing them all as compilations. It is my belief, and I
could be wrong, that if Logitech offered and maintained a comprehensive
"toolkit" then anomalies such as this should not arise.

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2009-07-04 Thread chp

New release time!

http://dsbridge.googlecode.com/files/dsbridge-20090704-bin.zip

Changes:

- Metadata is now only sent when changed
- Improved error messages returned by HTTP server
- Added experimental support for streaming cover art
- Improved HTTP header parsing

Cover streaming seems to work, but sometimes (if you have scaled the
window for example) the cover might end distorted with other window
content.

*Baz*, yes, allowing you to strip content out of the window title is
something that is in the plans. I'll add some good defaults when adding
the configuration interface (which is up next).

If I remember correctly it had something to do with Vorbis comments in
flac files. I think that the ALBUMARTIST tag was not read at all and
that only one of several tags for ARTIST and COMPOSER was read. I seem
to recall that if I tried to save the track id to the file, all existing
tags were replaced with what was in the MusicIP database. That was a
while ago, but I thought that MusicIP was no longer actively developed.

Yes it could be CustomScan (which I have disabled at the moment because
of issues with 7.4).
But I don't understand why you wouldn't just import from MusicIp - It

Because of the duration I seldom do a wipe and rescan. The last time
(before this 18 hours session) I think it took 6-8 hours. A scan for new
and changed music will take about two hours, or a little less.

Phil Leigh;437927 Wrote:

Thanks, but I have deliberately chosen not to do that, because all my
tags would not be imported into SC that way (I cannot now remember
exactly what the problem was). I would rather skip the MusicIP-import
altogether, i.e. not use MusicIP. Still, if it takes 18 hours with
MusicIP-import and three hours less without it, I think that is also too
long.

I am hoping to get some more suggestions in the forum and then apply
the suggested measures (including disabling MusicIP), cross my fingers
and take a deep breath and do another wipe and rescan and hope for the
best. For me, the wipe and rescan takes too long to resort to testing
the measures one by one.

Another thing I will do before the next wipe and rescan is to disable
completely CustomScan. Now I scan automatically for two custom tags,
REVIEW and ORIGYEAR, where REVIEW can contain a lot of text (the review
from AMG). All other scans in CustomScan are set to Manual, i.e. they
should not be performed during a wipe and rescan. Could this CustomScan
have anything to do with the long scanning time?

Use one of the builds between June 14th and 20th, they work.
Vote for this bug:
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=12569
Yet it does already have high priority and I know Andy is working it.

Oh, or you can try to set "Settings->Logging->network.cometd" to
"debug" which seems to help on some of the issues but be warned, your
log file will become HUGE so you should delete it on a regular basis.

I have a fix but I won't bring one out for 7.4 before it's more stable,
no use in going through an App Store approval process just to find that
something else breaks one day later (as happened the last time), 7.4 is
simply not stable enough, yet.

Some 98K tracks.

No, I have the music folder set in SC and have chosen to import from
Music-IP only the mix status.

Ah - OK. 98K tracks will take a while. On my system I'd expect that to
take maybe 3-4 hours?

You might like to try and do what I do, and set no music folder and
then use MusicIP as the source for all data (not just mix status). At
least that way you will only do 1 read of the files...

Yes, but I think understanding the basics and how others achieve the
same results may well help in understanding how to do it on your own.
:)

It could help in the areas of creativity, what is possible, and
avoiding some technical stumbling blocks.

I'd be happy to tune in your project and offer some (albeit basic)
feedback. Let me know if I can help. :)

If by "do-all" you mean tag management... then NO WAY! SC is a
read-only tool. This is critical. The moment SC gets the ability to
change my music files is the day I stop using it. Not that I'm
paranoid...

Re: [slim] Internet Radio : Specifications?

2009-07-04 Thread bpa

AFAIK there is no single technical spec produced by IEEE or IETF or
similar.

The uPNP spec might be helpful but most of that is not to do with audio
streaming but helping user find which stream to serve.

Basically audio is streamed using HTTP and a GET. There are a few
special HTTP headers that indicate byte offset but it is up to server to
handle them - I think w3c will define those.

The descripton of metadata is given in the link I posted earlier.

This explains how metadata is mebedded in MP3/AAC streams using
Shoutcast ICY protocol

Edna is a basic MP3 server will also help.

You should also look at HTTP headers as to how podcast can be ffwd/rew

[slim] Internet Radio : Specifications?

2009-07-04 Thread mdwoolley

Hi

I want to write some software which will behave kind of like an
internet radio station in that my squeezebox can "tune into" it's URL
and music will be streamed from the radio station to it and be played in
the usual way.

Can anyone point me at the formal specifications which an internet
radio station must comply with for the squeezebox to be able to
- play it's digital music
- display information
- anything else relevent to this topic

Thanks in anticipation

Martin

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2009-07-04 Thread baz

One improvment idea is to continue the work with the metadata. As it
looks today each played song is registered twice at Last.fm (if you are
using that service).

Example: Both
Peter Tosh – Legalize It
and
Spotify – Peter Tosh – Legalize It
are registered as two separate songs.

Perhaps the "Spotify"-text in the metadata can be parsed out?

I have not had any problems with my set-up but I am tempted to switch

Jaikoz has sorted out my tag problems - I would still like to see a
