Logitech is a public company based in Switzerland (audited by
PricewaterhouseCoopers) that issues financial statements and other
documents. In total, sales income for all logitech products was 2.2
Billion in 2009 (786 million for the Americas only). Retail audio sales
were 445 million worldwide (about 20% of total sales revenue). Of course
this includes more than just squeezeboxes.

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-04-03 Thread ralphy

I've uploaded a few binaries built against the latest portaudio
development library for users to try.

The 0.9-133 release uses different library snapshot versions on
different OS platforms. I need to bring all OS releases to the same
library level for easier maintainability.

In the past users have reported issues with audio devices not listed
with the newer snapshots.

The downloads below are for these platforms that I'd like additional
feedback. ie. I don't have the necessary hardware to properly test the
changes.

The Mac OSX builds include fixes to Snow Leopard 10.6 CoreAudio issues
and the portaudio libary.

Please give them a try and report back to this thread if -L no longer
lists your audio device that a previous version recognized.

[slim] configure sleep mode fade-out time

2010-04-03 Thread tawulf

Hi,
I'd very much like to set the time it takes to fade-out when entering
squeezebox sleep-mode.

For my purpose I would set it to zero, which effectively turns the
sleep button to the woefully missing cue button; others might want to
do a REAL slow fadout..

Anybody knows where this can be set?
If not - what would be the best way to bring this little enhancement
request on the developers' to-do list?

tia, Thomas Wulf

Hi Ralphy,

Latest results (tried with Foobar):

Neither program will pick up and play sound where they left off prior
to sleep. Both will show music going (with SBS makes sense since
server is elsewhere) but no sound comes out. The difference is
that with Foobar, if I stop and restart the song, or choose a different
song, I get sound. With Squeezeslave, I need to close and restart the
program to get sound.

As to the ASIO drivers themselves, I first wanted to try with the Lynx
L22 card, but that has its own 'wake from sleep' issues in Windows7, as
observed by myself and other users. Unfortunately, it seems Lynx has
not been able to produce this... With that card, return from sleep
produces digital noise instead of music when trying to play anything,
but Foobar was a step in the right direction, so it can't entirely be a
card specific ASIO driver issue.

I will keep the E-MU card in for today if there's anything I can test
for you, but will be putting the Lynx back and closing the box tomorrow
morning prior to wife's return :D

I need Lynx to solve THEIR driver issues before this will make a big
difference at this point...

2010-04-03 Thread rgro

Snarly is correct but, while paying (aka the Pandora One account) does
not get us Squeezies the 192k stream, it does eliminate the limitations
on how many hours you can play Pandora per month, elminates the ads,
and allows for 5 hrs of uninterrupted playing w/out interaction. For
me the small monthly cost was worth it just to get rid of the ads

Keep those cards and letters going to Pandora...I'm ever hopeful that
if we keep pestering them that, eventually, they'll redo that API for
us.

[slim] ERASING chararcters from WPA password?

2010-04-03 Thread skieswideopen

Hi,

I have a squeezebox 3 and entered too many characters into my WPA

I have tried EVERYTHING but I can't remove a character. Only change
it.

What is the Backspace/DELETE equivalent on the remote?

I have tried the back arrow (Press the LEFT arrow to erase letters),
as per the manual but all that does work. All it does is move the
cursor to the left and eventually back to the prior level menu item.

I want to DELETE a character rather than change it. ie, reduce 9 chars
down to 8.

Thanks!

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2010-04-03 Thread ob_kook

I tried several of the free apps for my SqueezeCenter, and many were
pretty good, but this one is by far the best. (On Android anyway -
never tried iPenq).

I had some issues that Christian was really fast in helping me out to
solve, and I'm really happy with the app. Definitely a strong
recommendation for anyone out there with an Android phone. (I'm running
it on the Motorola Backflip).

I would like to see a little better integration with Pandora that would
allow the thumbs up and thumbs down rating. I've not been able to find a
way to do that yet. (opened a ticket on the SqueezeCommander bug
tracker).

Anyway, I just wanted to provide some feedback on this app.

[slim] Another Catastrophic SB Failure

2010-04-03 Thread jimzak

Well, catastrophic for me anyway...

My Linksys WRT54GL router failed early this week.

I just got a replacement. I am using the Linksys firmware.

I have just spent 4 hours trying to get my system back up, and I can
only get one Boom playing.

I'm running the SB system in my signature.

My router has the same SSID and password as the old one.

I have set wireless security settings through many permutations. The
setting with which I get the one Boom to connect is with WPA-Personal
(TKIP).

However, the Radio, the other Boom, and the Duet report WPA2-PSK
encryption when I run the Diagnostics selection. I cannot figure out
how to make them aware of the new encryption.

Although I am a faithful SB fan, I am beginning to see why Sonos is
attractive. I have wasted a beautiful Saturday morning on something
that should take 20 mins.

Can anyone give me some guidance?

Thanks.

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2010-04-03 Thread afro

I have just managed to get a direct connection between my laptop and
squeezebox, without having to run it through squeeze centre server
software.

I am now using DSBridge streaming through squeezenetwork , and thought
I should share it back, as it says a few times on this thread that this
is not possible.

When you add the stream to your favourites in squeezenetwork /
mysqueezebox.com you need to add #slim:noscan=1 to the end of the URL.
So for me, I have 192.168.1.101:8124/#slim:noscan=1

The DSBridge software only seems to support one stream at a time.
Squeezenetwork tries to connect to validate the stream before playing,
which is tricky with internal IPs. It also creates a couple of streams,
which seems to break dsbridge. Using noscan avoids this, and seems to
fix it!

Very happy with this now!

What I usually do to reconnect a Duet Receiver:

1. Power down and power up the Receiver.
2. Push the button on the front of the Receiver until it blinks red.
3. Do a Factory Reset on the Controller.
4. Go through the Setup procedure for the Controller and Receiver.

There may be a more efficient way, but this seems to (ultimately) work
for me.

 Hi,
I'd very much like to set the time it takes to fade-out when entering

For my purpose I would set it to zero, which effectively turns the
sleep button to the woefully missing cue button; others might want to
 do a REAL slow fadout..

Anybody knows where this can be set?

Take a look at my SleepFade plugin. While the UI gives three discrete
choices, the logic applies the same geometric algorithm -- the
difference in the three choices is that each has a different exponent
value. Small positive fractions result in fading mostly at the end, so
you might get something like what you want by manually setting the
SleepFade rate preference to something like 0.01.

[slim] Listening to different tracks at once

2010-04-03 Thread gfoxcroft

I don't yet own a SB but am looking into it.

I use a Mac and in the first instance I want to put my music library on
an external hard drive attached to the Mac.

If i have several SBs around the house, each can be used to listen to a
different music track at the same time. But does this requite a
particularly fast HD to work? Will most reasonably modern HDs cope?

Also, if the Mac goes to sleep, will the SB be able to wake it when
requirred?

Thanks

yes, each SB can listen to it's own song selection (even though the
songs are in a single library controlled with the SqueezeboxServer
software). Or you can Synch one or more players to play the exact same
song with exact timing. Any basic computer, even certain lowpowered
NAS products, can deal with this, you should have no issues with the
MAC.

There are ways to make WOL (wake on lan) work, but I just leave my
server on 24/7.

Thank you, that's really helpful.

As regards the 'waking' issue, I do leave my Mac on 24/7, but of course
it goes to sleep when not used for a while. I wouldn't want to not have
it sleep after a period of use.

In the longer term, I think I would put a dedicated server for the
music collection into the network.

Thanks again.

PS I realise I ought probably to have posted my question onto the

Re: [slim] configure sleep mode fade-out time

2010-04-03 Thread tawulf

Thnkns for your answer.

I have looked at it but it just doesn't help me at all, I'm afraid.

Here is a quote from your description:

Because of Slimserver's built-in last minute fade-out code,
SleepFade is configured not to fade the volume when an
end of this song timer is in use.

which is exactly what I need in order to get the desired cue effect.

('cue' means: stop playing after this title ends.
Used to be on every halfway decent cd player's remote.)

Do you think there is a chance to expand the plug-in to provide this
functionality?

tia, Thomas

Ah, thanks. You'd need a different plugin for that. I'm not sure how
easy it'd be -- in the past (*years* ago), I found it tough to make a
plugin notice exactly when there was a song transition, though there
has been an official newsong notification message for a while. If
that mechanism has improved, it might be pretty easy to do. But it
might be easier to modify the core SBS source to make it do what you
want. If your code is clean and makes fade-vs-cue an option, I think
Logitech might consider adopting your code.

Title from Artist by Artist. But I dont want to have anything besides
Title. Did I miss anything? I tried searching without success.

Ok, right. I just tried it.

I think in your first post you said

TRACKNUM - ARTIST - TITLE from ARTIST

but I think you meant

TRACKNUM - ARTIST - TITLE from ALBUM

There's some logic somewhere that adds ARTIST and ALBUM if they're not
already in the title format. I believe the thinking behind this is
that the playlist may be made up of tracks from different albums and
artists, so the information should always be included.

I also like the idea of having a dedicated album view, perhaps done

much a remote control application, I use it for quickly performing
actions. I would like the iPad app to be a slower more visual
experience, sitting back on the sofa casually flicking through my
albums (glass of wine in hand). A digital equivalent of the CD case.

I support sam3k's suggestions x 10!

Pippin, if you get a chance take a look at subsonic music server
software (www.subsonic.org) for a (rough) idea of how it's interface
continually selects random album covers to view and pick from... i like
it because it helps as a reminder of what albums you own.

Also in regards to a stacked artist view like photos on the ipad. If
you can't get artist pics can you just present the stack of that
artist's album covers that exist on SBS? I believe that I can more
easily recognise an artist by their album covers than by some random
pic of the actual artist. (I have seen artist pics on XBMC and I'm not
a huge fan.)

I'm very excited about any iPeng/iPang release for the iPad. I'm
happy to purchase again for the new platform. Thanks for already
freeing me from the SBS web interface :)
