There is a big button on the main menu that looks like a yellow
submarine. If you don't see it go to the package manager (looks like a
box) and install it.

Re: [slim] Spotify on Squeezebox now possible?

2010-04-26 Thread Mnyb

The problem is well known if you cared to read this forums.
And tried to understand how these products works.

The "old" players is those based on the ip3k processor in this case the
reciever part of the duet.

The "controller" is "new" device which is squeezeplay based.

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Hardware_comparison

When the duet was conceived ca 2007 / 2008 released march 2008 they
developed. The controller and and the first version of squeezeplay but
only for controlling purposes.

But the player part the reciever is essentially the same as an SB2 sans
display this was released 2005 so the receiver part is "old" tried and
trusted technology, thats why it's so cheap no expensive display and
reuse of already developed technology.
This also the case for Boom who has an SB2 "brain" + dsp +speakers +
real-time clock.

Now it is like this the "ip3k" based players has a very tiny cpu and
memory. In fact it's completely full.
So *anything* that requires something to be added to the player can't
be done anymore I mean *anything at all* .

This is the case for aac native decoding (another popular request).

Some streaming services uses DRM of some kind you can listen but not
record the stuff.
These "secret" parts are embedded in the player and some of it are kept
at mysqueezebox.com like your accounts.

Some of the streaming services available -now- have this embedded in
the player and even the old players, but now it is full, it got
features added to it for many years.

So the ip3k players have reached the end of the road.

The solution was to develop squeezeplay further to all full blown
player and make hardware that runs some kind of "linux" to host it.
This will probably be the base for new products for while (until it to
becomes obsolete).

So there is a transitional period right now with the platform for the
players .

Also the licensing for squeezeboxserver software makes it impossible to
put the "secret" stuff there.

The new players ? it's more complicated with SqueezeOS and SqueezePlay
they are partly "open source" but I'm sure there is a corner somewhere
you can't touch where they can keep "secret" stuff for service
providers.

Right, and put that into an open source server, so the 'scrambling'

No, I would demand that when they added color to NTSC, or opened up
UHF, or switched to ATSC, that the TV maker supply me with a new tv or
retrofit my existing one to make it just work.

The Squeezebox line has been excellent in adding services, the feature
set of old products keeps growing.. but when someone uses Yet Another
Simulated DRM method for no real reason, it's just silly. There is a
limit to the number of codecs that can be supported, especially on ip3k
platforms. And when DRM is involved, that code can't simply be moved to
the server.

I second this idea. Those of us that like to listen to Leo Laporte

does not have an SBox friendly stream. iheartradio on the iPhone/Touch

Well, you can expect it to work at 10 Mbps, maybe 100 Mbps if you're
really really lucky. It's not going to hurt your switch. A 10 Mbps
run is more than fast enough to stream 16/44.1 audio uncompressed and
it may turn out to be more reliable than a poor wireless connection.

[slim] A Ripping Conundrum

2010-04-26 Thread ajkidle

Hi all. I'm a recent convert to the VortexBox platform, having built
myself a little Atom rig. It works as desired except when it comes to
ripping & tagging. I have a fair amount of obscure music and (legal)
bootlegs that require manual intervention to get the tag data correct.
As such, I find myself really missing dbPowerAmp and mp3tag in this new
setup. I also believe the ripping methodology used by dbPowerAmp to be
more robust (although we don't need to debate that here.) Looking for
suggestions to bring these pieces of software back into my setup.

At my disposal, I have the headless Atom rig and a MacBook (running
Snow Leopard, if it matters.) I remote into the Atom with the MacBook
either via ssh or the web interface if I need to tinker with it. Is
there someway to get dbPowerAmp to run on the VortexBox machine? When
I had an Ubuntu box I used Wine without issue, but given that VortexBox
is command line only I don't know how to do this (if it's even
possible.)

Another possibility is to buy a copy of Win7 and use Boot Camp to
install it on the MacBook, thus allowing me to run dbPowerAmp. This
strikes me as an awfully complicated (and expensive) way to go about
this.

Suggestions anyone?

Who says they're not supporting it?

Your Duet did not come with Spotify support.

If Spotify's license does not allow SBS to retrieve a stream, and send
it onto another device, well, then, how would you magically make the
Duet handle it?

You think Logitech should dispatch an upgrade crew to your home and
replace your hardware?

You know, when we got DTV, I remember how the big Sony truck pulled up
to my house, and took out the old NTSC set and replaced it with a 42"
flat panel. They did the same thing years before when UHF channels

There's really no need to go about installing ubuntu to use the Joggler
as a Squeezecenter, Squeezeplay will run on it.

See attached pic or http://twitpic.com/1ipv62

There are a few minor issues but these can be addressed in code, namely
- there are no hard buttons. Touchscreen obviously works fine.

This is without having to install ubuntu - remember that linux on the
joggler is essentially ubuntu 8.04.

I had to tweak the skin to get the screen size to be correct, but
that's another minor thing. To be honest I've only worked on this for
an hour and most of the time taken was me learning a bit about lua

It would be awesome if you would implement it for the Squeezecenter
Server. Yes, a firmware implementation would be best. However, an
implementation for the Squeezecenter Server would better than NOTHING.
Plus now it's available for Mac and Windows as well (and 32/64bit

Hi Modelcitizen,

OK - I found the setting here in the browser...

Server Settings/Behaviour in the section "Filter genres at the album &
track level"

Great it now works as expected and I can save a lot of space for
dublicate music.

Thanks

fphredd,

The latest development builds includes the changes suggested by the
portaudio library maintainer.

When you get a chance, please try both the r151 ASIO and r153 WASAPI
releases from 'googlecode'

Thanks,

Can you try r151 from 'googlecode'

Re: [slim] Improved Squeezebox config availible for Harmony users.

2010-04-26 Thread rbz5416

Granted the Harmony software is less than intuitive when you get down to
the fine tuning, but I can't see why you'd have a problem adding an SB3.
I have software version 7.6.0 installed & have just run through the
process.

Devices Tab > Add Device > Music Player > Digital Music Server >
Logitech & then manually enter device model. It even gives Squeezebox
v3 as an example.

[slim] Genre does not filter but takes all music by artist

2010-04-26 Thread excalibur

I am trying to make multiple genre tags pr. song. This is now configured
in the Server Settings/Behavior in the section 'Separator for multiple
items in TAGs'. The seperator character is ';'.

After a restart and deleting the index and a complete new rescan of the
music I see the following;

- Under genres the normal genres appear as well as the genre
'Testmusic' that I have made a dublicate genre next to the original
TAG. For instance Kraftwerk is Genre tagged with both 'Electronic' and
'Testmusic'. In the tag it is written like this Electronic;Testmusic
(separated by ';'.

This seems OK and both genres appear under Genres under 'My Music', as
intended.

When I enter the Genre 'Testmusic' I see Kraftwerk listed (perfect).
But The problem is that entering Kraftwerk I see all their albums, not
only the album that I have specifically TAG'ed as 'Testmusic'.

This pattern repeats itself with all other artists that have one or
more songs tagged as 'Testmusic'. This effectively makes the content of
my genre Testmusic way too big and of no use to me.

How can I make Squeeze Server filter to avoid artists marked with
testmusic, has all their music into the Genre Testmusic, instead of
only the songs I tag as testmusic? I only want to see the particular
songs marked as testmusic. Not the entire artist's discography

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: [slim] Improved Squeezebox config availible for Harmony users.

2010-04-26 Thread squeezyjim

OK then, I'll rephrase the question...

how on earth do you add a Logitech SB3 so you can rename it to
Squeezebox Touch to the Logitech Harmony One devices list?

IT DOESNT APPEAR TO BE LISTED IN THE SUPPORTED DEVICES LIST ANYWHERE.

I have since manually added an SB Touch device and taught the commands
one by one, and its officially the biggest PITA device I have had to
programme, including an obscure no-name DVD player which was much
easier to find, and this seems bizarre.

I'm guessing I'm looking in the wrong place, but where???

Re: [slim] All this talk of low-power Atom . . . plugs that pretend to be computers . . .

2010-04-26 Thread Soulkeeper

I live in Norway where we have plenty of cheap hydroelectricity. Plus,
it's cold, so we need heating 9 months a year anyway.

Thus I run an old noisy PC as a server, 24/7. It's in my kitchen, and
makes more noise than the fridge. But the kitchen has a door, and the
door can be closed, so I'm good.

I also run my Class AB amp 24/7, except in the warmest summer months.
With two aquariums at 25 degrees Celsius, six neighbouring flats around
mine (only two walls exposed to the elements), and double/triple
insulated windows, i ALMOST don't need to use my electric ovens. Except
in the late autumn, in the winter and in the early spring.

And I live in the southern part of the country.
