Re: [slim] How to save a radio station to favorites w/ 7.5?
Hi, I'm a new user and hooked up my Duet just 2 days back. I was constantly feeling the need to add Internet radio stations to Favorites list, but couldn't find the option in the Menu that comes up if you click the "+" button on Controller while you're on Now Playing. Searching the web got me here, and this workaround worked like a charm, Thanks united59! While trying to find the Favorites option though, I ran into this strange behavior. I added Shoutcast & a couple of other Radio networks. When I search for Stations from inside any of these apps and play the station, I do see "Add to Favorites" on the Now Playing popup menu. Clicked it and added a favorite. Then went back and checked the Favorites list and the station did indeed get added. But when I switch off the Receiver and switch it on later, the Favorites that were added are gone, and the list is empty. Has anyone else observed this? [slim] MusicIP and accented characters in 7.5.1
I am still having problems with MusicIP mixes and songs with accented/international characters in the filename. I can create a mix fine with a song with an é or other characters, but the songs with international characters don't show up in the playlist, incl. the seed song if it has some. There is something with the encoding that is different on initiating the mix and getting it back from MusicIP. Example: creating mix, in the log it will say: [10-04-28 20:48:23.5593] Slim::Plugin::MusicMagic::Plugin::getMix (940) Creating mix for: song using: E:\Music\All Music\Music\' A B C D E\Angelique Kidjo\1991 - Logozo\04 - Wé-Wé.mp3 as seed. Returning undef. See how the character encoding is very different of the Wé-Wé title... The seed song actually doesn't even show up as the first song as it should, and playing the MusicIP list it will say when it plays the first song of the mix number 2 of 50. I don't think it is a MusicIP problem, because when I paste the url of the mix request (see above line starting with [10-04-28 20:48:23.5602]) it returns a nice mix with 50 songs having international characters. I would love to see this fixed and don't mind further troubleshooting this. Or am I the only one seeing this. I miss my 'international' songs... It connects directly to your Squeeze Network account and lets you control your SqueezeBox from the phone without a glitch, including music subscription services like Rhapsody, among others. Re: [slim] Can use Blackberry as remote, now how about streaming to the Blackberry?
You say that "it's just a matter of writing the right app" but also say that you don't have any real idea about programming. Consider the very popular iPeng app for iPhone's and iPod Touch: getting a _local_ SBS to stream music to it is still a work-in-progress, so I wouldn't underestimate the effort involved. What you're asking -- streaming over the internet, which you probably want to do securely -- is a step further than that. And let's just say that the iThing community for app development is a lot more active than the BB app community. Is that >67gb library FLAC or a lossy codec? For playing through something like a BB lossless is overkill -- the audio hardware is more of a constraint than lossless vs lossy. Besides, you'd have to settle for lossy for remote streaming because of bandwidth. What a lot of people do, myself included, is keep a parallel MP3 library for portable use. There are various software tools to make creating and maintaining a parallel MP3 library easy. You could shrink a FLAC library of over 100gb down to reasonable-quality (192kbps or better) MP3s that would fit on a single 16gb SD card. If that 67gb is already lossy then that's another story. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the app you're asking for. Yes, that's the normal method - the server just passes the stream URL to the player, and the player then retrieves the stream on its own. Re: [slim] Squeezebox randomly drops station
One thing to check on the SonicWalls: when I had a web server behind them, my ssh connections would drop if I idled "too long". They (like many NAT boxes) try to limit their table sizes by deciding connections have expired. There is a "Default Connection Timeout" setting that is, by default set to 5 minutes. It may be that the connection to MySB is idle enough that the SonicWall is closing that connection, which may do bad things like drop the other connection eventually. -- snarlydwarf snarlydwarf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1179 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78019 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] SB2 needs direct internet connection?
Does the SB2 need its own access to the internet to play internet radio? I have my system set up and have no problem playing music from my server. However, radio and Sirius do not. I can see the stations and can select them to play. But they never buffer up and no sound comes out. The server software makes it look like the station is playing though. The reason that I ask is that my setup relies on a Cradlepoint CTR350 EVDO router. Any device that connects to it must log in (separate from WPA) in order to access the internet. Each laptop can surf, but only after the login. If SB needs its own direct connection (as opposed to piggy-backing off of the Squeezecenter server) then I can see how the radio breakdown is happening. [slim] Can use Blackberry as remote, now how about streaming to the Blackberry?
Hello, I know I asked a similar question about 2 years ago, and things have changed a bit since then. I am able to use my Blackberry Bold 9000 to open the squeezebox server webpage and use it as a remote, that works fine. I am also able to finally stream mp3's to the blackberry using the stream.mp3 option, however it's clunky, and I can only play my mp3's, not FLAC files, and I have to keep switching back and forth between the web page and the media player. Doing so will often change the IP address and the player in the drop down list, making it hard to pick the right one. Now I don't really use the Blackberry at home much as a remote, I use my remote that came with the squeezebox. I'm thinking of when I am on the road, especially on those long family summer vacations, it would be nice to be able to have access to my music library remotely. I'd like to be able to use something on the Blackberry to play my music from my squeezebox. I know Softsqueeze works for PC's, but is there anything similar to this for mobile phones, specifically the Blackberry? If not, is there someone out there smart enough to develop one? I would but I am not a programmer in any sense of the word, and would never be able to do this. I'd be willing to be a beta tester for it if anyone ever wanted to put one together. -capT -- captain_tinker captain_tinker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12518 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78046 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

The tagging isn't a limitation of vortexbox but more the open source db's it uses to pull through the information, I have to say though that its pretty much spot on for 90% of my rips - the problems tend to be on some brand new albums and mainly compilation albums which are a problem. I see it as 3 general options 1) Use subsonic - I've not upgraded to the version that contains this so unsure of the usability against mp3tag (which is excellent) - looking at the screenshots at http://www.subsonic.org/pages/screenshots.jsp it does seem to be quite basic but if you wanted to correct album by album then it might be feasible, however if you wanted to update all albums by Oasis to an 'Indie' tag in one move I doubt it work. 2) Use mp3tag/dbpoweramp over the network - So from another pc, however the limitation you have is due to having a mac, I have an ubuntu laptop so both of these work using 'wine' - I tend to rip a lot of compilations through dbpoweramp to make sure its right first time and just point the rips to be stored in /storage/music/flac on the vortexbox. Some people have suggested using vmware which you could run XP on, Im assuming that wine isn't available for mac but might be worth checking. 3) Running Desktop environment on Vortebox - A third option (and probably the one I use most) is to run a desktop environment on your vortexbox so hooking up a keyboard/monitor and installing the gnome desktop - I actually use my custom built vortebox as both server and my main pc, it runs fedora linux and again access dbpoweramp/mp3tag under wine - the only thing is that you have to turn off the vortexbox service prior to using dbpoweramp (this is running service vortexbox stop from the command line and start when your done). The benefits of this over 2) are that you don't have the network latency that can impact ripping/tagging over the network. Hope that helps, any questions let me know Thanks Ian -- socistep socistep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18860 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77972 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Erland, if you're interested in helping, I can just make you an admin on wordpress so you can update and post information. I think this is a good idea. In fact, I've started a topic on just this. [slim] Cannot connect with Windows 7
I have an SB3 which has been working just fine until I got a new computer with Windows 7 home premium on it. My SB3 will now no longer connect to SqueezeCenter - it will connect to MySqueezeBox.com, but not to my Win 7 box. I have turned off the Windows firewall, and uninstalled all anti-virus software. Still no joy. I am running the latest version of SqueezeCenter. Anyone have any ideas? Re: [slim] OpenFrame remote for SB?
Hi Scaredycat - tried running your squeezeplay-runnable on an ubuntu laptop and it runs fine but it's showing "SqueezePlay version 7.3 r8740" which is quite old. Have you tried a newer version? I've run a pre-compiled version on the Joggler but I need to play around with layout, image & font sizes, etc. I may have a look at your fullscreen lua and see if it's better suited... (Details over at joggler info forum). It would be great to get the latest version of squeezeplay running on the native Joggler OS. -- sifer69 sifer69's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29984 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64373 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Cat-3 Cables
True. Cable length is an important factor. I used to make my CAT5 cables terribly terribly wrong, but didn't even notice until I once mounted one in a mechanical workshop (probably full of noise) and couldn't make it work. :P That's when I learned you have to take the twisted pairs into account. And I had been making cables 10-20 meters long, never even noticing that anything was wrong. Needless to say, I snuck back and re-terminated quite a few cables, hoping that nobody would ask me what I was doing. -- Soulkeeper Soulkeeper's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35297 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77974 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
