24/96 works fine on hardware players . I play such files every week. If using FLAC try to keep the encoding level at -5 or less not -8 . SqueePlay is a beta that doesn not really work in some circumstances it's noturius for serving music in the "wrong format" or on the wrong sound-card etc. Btw if your servers is up to it (atom or similar) older squeezeboxes can enjoy 24/96 to with transcoding to 24/48 . I do have a wired Touch and my server is also wired I did try 24/96 wireless it also worked. When the Touch was new there was a problem with a skip in the first track when running it over wifi for 24/96 this should have been resolved. Actually I have no artwork at all in iTunes. A few of my mp3 files already have artwork embedded, but not many. I found some references to a tool called iTSfv. It has a bazillion options and performs a lot of fucntions, so I'll have to spend some time looking it over. Any other tips you might have are appreciated. Ah, I've just figured that you may have got your artwork into iTunes before you started embedding it into the MP3s. If that's the case then iTunes stores the artwork separately for those files, so it may take precedence over the embedded artwork. I'd try deleting a couple of albums as a test, adding them back as MP3s and then changing the covers to see if it updates okay on the iPod. I'm running version 10.1.0.54. My files are stored on a NAS and not on the local machine, so I can't say whether that changes the behaviour at all. It's exactly how I had it set with an old version and it wouldn't automatically update, so this behaviour is new to the newer versions. Are the timestamps of your MP3s getting updated when the image changes? Mine are, and I guess that's how it sees that changes have occurred. When I fire iTunes up the NAS starts seeing a load of activity as it (presumably) scans the files for changes. Then, when I plug in an iPod I can see the exact same tracks that have had the images updates sync over to the iPod. Make sure when you test that you make the changes when iTunes isn't running, as it seems to scan for changes at startup. Hi Paulster - Thanks for the tip! I'm fooling around with it and I'm finding that the changes to the mp3 aren't picked up by iTunes unless I play the file in iTunes. What do you do to trigger iTunes to pick up the changes? BTW, I'm running iTunes 10 (10.1) - the most current as far as I know. I have a couple of SB3s and squeezeslave on two PCs. Everything's connected to a server in the basement. Everything is hardwired. Not sure about your issue with SqueezePlay but I can confirm that the Touch can play 24/96 without any buffer issues. My Squeezebox Server is running under Win XP on a dual-core Atom. The newest version of iTunes seems to detect changes to the MP3 files and synchronises them onto the iPods automatically. I have a FLAC library with embedded images, and use flac2mp3 to maintain a shadow library of MP3s since I have too many albums to be able to fit even a chunk of them on my iPods in lossless format, so when I change an image in a FLAC file it will be propogated into the MP3 file automatically. If I changed tags or images in the old days I'd have to delete the files from iTunes and then re-import them but I noticed when I built a new iTunes virtual machine a couple of weeks ago (to get rid of the performance hit of all the iTunes services running on my PCs all the time) that the new version automatically updates itself at startup. It's actually quite slick now, and I can now specify individual albums that I want synced onto my smaller iPods. [slim] SqueezePlay rebuffering on 24/96?
While I don't have a Squeezebox yet, I've got my music collection organized and entered into Squeezebox Server and am using SqueezePlay beta to access it on my (Windows XP with Athlon 64 dual-core 5600+ and SATA hard drives) computer. I recently downloaded the HDTracks 24/96 sampler. Great sound! But...when I try playing those FLACs, even with just SqueezePlay on my computer, I get the music stopping to rebuffer every minute or so. Note that this is not a matter of WiFi communication between the computer and some other device -- although I would assume that Squeezebox Server is sending the data through the network (between my computer and itself?), it's all being done either internally in my computer or, at worst, going to and from my router via Ethernet. I've checked my computer's performance, and, when these rebuffers occur, there is no spike in CPU usage (which remains at 20-30%). Everything seems to be running normally, except for the rebuffer problem. I should add that I can play 16/44 FLACs with no problem. Is there some sort of known problem with SqueezePlay that would cause this, or any workaround on my computer that would help? Otherwise, I'm assuming that, if SqueezePlay running internally has problems with 24/96 files, a Squeezebox Touch running off WiFi would have at least as severe a problem. Ive been trying to troubleshoot some this morning. Connecting through both server and mysb to see if any difference none. Then decided to try some other 320 streams same problems. My download speed averages right at 2500Kbps Tried 917 xfm @ 917Kbps no problems Tried Radio online de Sevillistas en las Palmas @ 684Kbps no problems Tried Avro Klassiek and Baroque @ 256 no problems. 320k streams should be a breeze for any streaming device. If they are an issue then something is very wrong with your setup or WiFi or router or modem or ISP. What is your download speed from your ISP? Are you connecting through SBS on your computer or directly to MySB.com online (no computer)? Thanks, Read my mind. It use to stream just fine months back. I have increased my buffer to 10 and that seemed to help a little. It doesn't seem to dropout or rebuffer as often, but now is just cutting off for as long as a minute or two at a time before resuming play. Oddly I have no such problems with any other streams up to 192kbps. Could part of the problem be the higher rate stream? My connection is wired. Not sure what to troubleshoot concerning the network but appreciate the tips. Like most of us, my music library exists in 2 forms: FLAC for my squeezeboxes and mp3 for my iPod. I took the approach of having the artwork in a separate file (cover.jpg) in each directory rather than embedding the artwork. The result is that my artwork does not exist in the mp3 version of my music library. I have figured out how to embed the artwork into the mp3 files automatically - that's simple enough (mp3tag to the rescue!). The question is how to bring that into iTunes so I will see it on my iPod Touch. The only way I know to this is to dump my iTunes library and re-import the mp3s into iTunes. With a large collection of files (33,000+ songs), I'd rather not have to do this. Does anybody know of an automated way to update the artwork in iTunes using the embedded artwork in the mp3 files without reimporting the files? [slim] Selecting Genre followed by artist shows ALL genres for that artist. How to change?
I have a genre called Xmas. Most of my songs under Xmas are with artist "V/A" since it's a lot of single tracks and not albums. Under artist V/A I also have a lot of other songs from other genres. When I select genre Xmas -> V/A, I'd expect to only get a list of the songs that are from the Xmas genre, but instead I get a list of ALL songs with artist = V/A.
