Re: [slim] Rhapsody

2011-02-22 Thread bhall

Mine works fine now but I have had periodic problems in the past with
Rhapsody. Here's what I have seen in the past: I can select a track,
see it buffer on the controller, see the album art appear and see the
seconds start to tick away on the track progress bar but no sound comes
out. If I switch to a different track, the same thing occurs: no
sound.

This problems randomly comes and goes. I can't say this for sure but
my guess is there is something on the Rhapsody side going on. Since
around November, they have had problems after moving to new
servers/data center. See their forum for all of the issues. Others
have similar problems like what I described but it doesn't impact
everyone. No rhyme or reason to it. Note also that Sonus users have
also had issues with Rhapsody.

Before you consider switching to Napster (like I did), they are having
all sorts of problems as well.

[slim] 'Random Play' playing short playlist repetitively

2011-02-22 Thread kweller

I have the Squeezebox on random play/songs - 4 players synchronized, all
wired - and it is playing the same 21 tracks, from a possible selection
of 16297, over and over again in the same order. Please see the list of
tracks played that I pulled from Last.FM.

I believe this is an old bug that has resurfaced (speaking of which,
I've also seen the 'displaying track-1 information when playing track'
bug in this release that I remember from some time ago).

All genres are included in Random Mix, 'Add new items when old ones
finish' is selected and the server interface is set to show 10 old and
10 new.

Re-selecting Random Mix clears the issue and it is fine for a while (at
least days) but then the issue comes back.

I'd like to use Dynamic Playlists/Random Songs to get round the issue
but, as per another post of mine, that causes Squeezebox Server to
crash every time I forget and press the button on the remote.

tried that, but there is no "mysqueezebox.com" after information, only
information on the player it self. I did find a mysqueezebox.com at the
beginning menu, but when clicked, proceeds to download new firmware and
restarts it self. Then if i go back to the other menu, it down loads new
firmware again. It keeps doing this everytime i switch from one menu
request to the other!!! Also i emailed logitec 2 weeks ago and have
heard nothing, so i'm stuck!

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Playback comes to iPeng

2011-02-22 Thread signor_rossi

I have bought the playback function and wanted to give my brother the
possibility to use his old iPhone (pre-3G) as a Squeezebox player on
his JBL radio dock. It does work, but the volume level output from the
iPhone seems to be at 100% and can't be changed, resulting in unwanted
static that can be heard easily. Is there a magic switch or would that
function be something for a feature request to be made?

LOL: Just aside. When writing the name iPeng I suddenly remembered that
BMW will start calling their new electric car series i3 and i8. What a

Re: [slim] secondhand classic v3

2011-02-22 Thread toby10

If your player keeps getting FW updates it is likely due to you
switching between SBS server on your computer and MySqueezeBox.com
online.

Stop SBS on your computer, enter player Setup menu (press & hold left
arrow), select "connect to MySqueezeBox.com", let it get the FW update
and let it reboot.
After reboot you should be on MySqueezeBox.com (should see
MySqueezeBox.com in upper left of screen, below that probably says Now
Playing, this means you are on the Home menu).
Now try Settings > Info > MySqueezeBox.com

When you emailed Logitech did you give the EXACT make, model, serial
number, MAC address number as is listed on the bottom of the SB3? They
cannot delete it absent that info.

Have you tried calling support?

Well the Harmony One is for controlling multiple devices, mine handles
Touch, Pre-amp, TV, Satellite Box, DVD and HDMI switchbox. It's and
infra-red learning remote, whereas the Controller is a wi-fi device for
Squeezeboxes.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Playback comes to iPeng

2011-02-22 Thread signor_rossi

I was too eager with my previous post, sorry. The whole thing is
actually an iPod dock that for some reason allows the playback from a
pre-3G iPhone, it even says something about the product not being
compatible with the iPhone when it is placed in the dock. Since it
'worked' otherwise I didn't bother to mention it before. Anyway, seems
this JBL dock is not shielded properly for WiFi, but it sounds crap
with an old iPod too, you can even hear the hard disk spinning at low
volumes through the speakers.
Sorry again for the trouble.

I dunno about "old" but "sh*t" I would subscribe to ;) It's a Belkin N
router w DSL modem. Coverage is reasonable and speeds are ok with no
encryption. The SB3 was on the blink all night last night. Pulled the
plug in the morning and there was peace and quiet after that for a few
hours. I don't think it's the router - after all, the SB3 quite
happily reports 70% signal strength. I thought at some point it was
down to DHCP leases expiring, but I switched the SB3s to static IPs and
it made no difference at all.

I use a Harmony One, works great with the Squeezebox.

That said I use ipeng too and IF ipeng was on an inexpensive touch
screen that would certainly seal the deal for me. But, it is on an iPad
and using the iPad just as a remote is an expensive proposition,

Re: [slim] SB3 constantly dropping connection

2011-02-22 Thread Dogberry2

Aside from the occasional factory lemon (they're bound to happen in any
mass production), I think most WiFi connectivity problems are
environmental. Competing network overlap, cordless phones, baby
monitors, microwave ovens, building materials and many other things are
all potential sources of connectivity problems, not to mention brand and
age of router, antenna orientation and the like. I don't claim that the
internal antennas in the various SBs can't be the culprit, but my
experience has been great. I have two SBRs, a Boom, a Touch, and two
Controllers, all wireless, on three different stories of the house, and
have never, ever had problems with connectivity or buffering with any of
them. My router is five years old (Belkin Wireless G) and the house is
about 4200 square feet. The house is 1950s construction with walls of
heavy plaster over metal lath, which I thought might cause me a
problem, but every SB device has worked perfectly from the moment I
took it out of the box. I use the Boom in different parts of the house
from time to time, and take it outside, and even 100 feet or more from
the router, with brick walls in between, it works without fail.
However, I'm fortunate in that houses in the neighborhood are not very
close together, so I have almost no overlap with neighboring network
signals or other sources of in-house interference; inSSider has
detected a couple of other networks, but always extremely weak.

I'm not saying it doesn't suck when people have WiFi connectivity
problems with SB devices, but since I (and many others) don't have
problems it doesn't appear to be a universal failing of SB construction
or design. From responses here in the forums over the past few years, it
seems that a different router (more powerful or with better antennas) or
adding an access point often resolves the problems.

I sympathize with those who have trouble with their SBs on WiFi; the
main reason I went with the Squeeze line of products was because I
didn't want to have to string cable all over the house. If I couldn't
get them to work wirelessly I'd be pretty upset. And I know it can be
very difficult to track down problems with a wireless network. But the
root of most WiFi problems is in the router, the setup, or the
environment, not in the SB architecture itself.

that a product has wifi does not mean that it is guaranteed to work
everywhere for every one, sorry.

Is all really obvius trouble sorted like is the server also wifi and
the same PC as used for everything else and downloading a torrent at
the same time for example ( that would obviusly don't work ).

What makes music streaming demanding is the need for continius
uninterupted wifi, web browsing with your laptop would not need much to
function.

The SB3 has a test function for streaming speed, settings > information
> network test .
And use the down arrow to increase the speed, should be 2000 kbps on
wifi and less than 1000 is up the creek with no paddle Cd quality
flac needs aprox 800kbps continiusly.

Want to try a "cheat" ?

Hold the left arrow down - When the menu appears, arrow down to Current
Settings -

Go right and then arrow down to the MAC address - It will let you arrow
right and change the MAC address -

Not sure i the MAC's were issued to SB's sequentially, but just in
case, change a few of the digits in the address - Move the digit up or
down one on a couple of them.

If it doesn't work, just put it back to the original MAC - It's on the
sticker on the bottom of the unit.

Assuming your newly minted NMAC address is not in the database,
mysqueezebox.com should let you register.

There are some inexpensive Android 2.2 tablets out there such as this
one:

Is your app compatible? A tablet would make a nice Android remote for
SB.

Works great on a rooted Nook Color.

[slim] Adding a rj45 jack to a wifi-only SB1?

2011-02-22 Thread pjheslin

I have a very old Squeezebox version 1 which only has WiFi connectivity
-- no wired Ethernet. I had to choose either wired Ethernet or WiFi
and I chose the latter. Because it is WEP only I have been running a
separate network to serve this Squeezebox (also a wired Slimp3 via WiFi
bridge).

I want to get rid of that extra WiFi network and use the Homeplug
network I already have. The SB1 has an opening for an RJ45 jack in the
back, but no jack and the opening has been blocked up. Is there some
soldering I could do to add a wired Ethernet connection?

Thanks!

Peter

Hi Peter,

Welcome to the fun. Please consider new hardware (but of course,
someone else might have a solution.)

Re: [slim] SB release 7.5.3: Unreliable. Anyone else?

I had problems with 7.5.3, specifically the alarm would not function
reliably with a synchronized group of players. I took avta's advice to
try 7.6 and it works great.

I'm using a Synology 1010+ NAS (with SSODS4 4.11 to run SB
7.6.0-31915). With 7.5.3 and lower it took 40 min to do a 'clear
library and rescan everything' on 20K tracks. The PC (with Ubuntu) I
used prior to the NAS had performance. First clear rescan with 7.6
took 8:40 - I didn't believe that was correct so I redid it and the
second time was 6:20, that's 6 times faster! In addition the web
interface is much more responsive and all the issues I had with
SqueezePlay are gone, save a barely noticeable sync delay.
