[slim] Where to place my new duet? (served from Touch)
I just ordered Duet from Amazon at a one day special for $170 Gold box deal. I went back later in the day to pick up a second for a friend but the deal had ended, but I'm very happy I got one for myself. I currently have in my house a squeeze box touch and boom connected wirelessly. I have a workshop outside with a SB radio. I'ts connected with Ethernet from my house router because WIFI won't reach. I've been using SB radio headphone jack to connect to my amp/reciever speaker setup in my workshop but now with my Duet purchase, I plan on replacing the wired SB radio in my shop with either my new Duet, or the Touch in my house, and putting my Duet where my Touch is. Which should I do? I should also mention that I have a 32 GB SD card in my touch that I use to serve music to all my squeezebox devices. I presume I will be able to also send SD card music from touch to the Duet as well. I understand that serving to many SB devices at once can overload the small SB server from the touch but I rarely serve music from SD card to more than one SB device at a time. All things being equal, I'd prefer to use Duet in shop. But will the Duet remote work well without WIFI? I understand Duet controller will still work in my workshop with wired base unit but will it require line of sight to base unit without WIFI? I think I heard that Touch has better WIFI signal than Duet. Is this a proponent for putting Duet in my shop since my shop is wired Ethernet? Does this mean if I put my Duet in my house with WIFI I could have connectivity issues? Currently my Touch in my house has a %80 WIFI signal and never has connectivity issues nor does it cause stuttering when serving music from SD card. I understand that touch has a superior DAC used for analog output as compared to Duet. This will be a proponent for placing my Touch in workshop and swapping my Touch in my house for Duet because only my house receiver has digital input whereas my workshop receiver has analog only right? If my Duet is in my house, Duet controller will work better because it will be on WIFI right? How much of a difference will this make? Critical? If I had Duet in my WIFI house, I'd be able to use the Duet controller to control my Boom and radio which would also be in my houses WIFI range right? This I may find useful, especially for the boom which has a not so friendly user interface. Does this work well? -- leif leif's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38372 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86458 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] N band Wireless
The 802.11n standard supports two frequency bands - 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The Squeezebox devices are 802.11g which works in the 2.4 GHz band. Most 802.11n routers support 2.4 GHz while there some that are some dual band devices that support 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. There are a small number of 802.11n router that are 5 GHz only, so make sure you avoid one of those. Re: [slim] Confused whether to buy a netbook or not...
An Atom CPU with Intel GMA X3150 isn't a good choice for movies. The graphics are somewhat crippled. For document editing I'm not sure a netbook is a good choice. They're more difficult to type on due to the undersized keyboards and a 10" screen is pretty small for text. If you have young eyes it may work OK, but otherwise reading glasses are a must. The 600px vertical resolution on the small screens is the biggest hindrance. It means not much of a web page or document can be seen and a lot more vertical scrolling is necessary. The biggest attractions of netbooks, as I see them: - Very small and lightweight, so great portability. - Great battery life. - Low cost. If those aren't higher priorities than things like being able to watch hi res movies, or being able to work comfortably for hours editing documents, then you might reconsider. A netbook (actually, slightly larger than most) that I'm looking forward to is the 'ASUS Eee PC 1215B' (http://www.starbytecomputers.com/blog/2011/03/asus-eee-pc-1015b-1215b-amd-brazos-based-netbooks-unveiled/5350/). The AMD Brazos platform has _much_ better graphics than the Intel Atom with NM10 chipset and GMA 3150 graphics. Also has more max memory capability and this model has a 12" screen. The drawbacks are that it will be more expensive, the dual-core CPU and larger screen will mean less battery life and it will be a bit heavier than a 10" netbook. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86433 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Confused whether to buy a netbook or not...
I have been considering to buy a netbook for basic applications like -web browsing -typing and editing documents -watching movies and listening to music -downloading stuff(download a lot of movies) I am considering a Netbook something about this Netbook Operating System Windows2000/XP/Windows7 Processor Intel Atom D425 1.8GHZ Display 10.2'' Wide-screen 1280*600 WXGA Graphic Processor Intel GMA X3150 System Memory DDRII 1G Max Memory Maximun to 2G Memory Slot 1×So-DIMM Hard Drive SATA 160G (250G/320G) Max Storage Maximun to 320G My prime concerns are: -How much of multitasking can it handle? For instance how comfortably can it pull web browsing (with multiple tabs on),editing documents,a download in progress while a movie is running simultaneously? -Would a netbook be able to pull maximum internet speeds? Please help me decide if netbook is a good choice at all -- silentnight silentnight's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44992 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86433 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Sveriges Radio 192 kbps Radio Channels BETA TEST
I finally got around to put in 'Ekot' mp3's to the RSS feed app. This works, but I can't see a way to add top of the feed to favourites. Anyway- All other shows are in m4a format: http://api.sr.se/api/rssfeed/rssfeed.aspx?lyssnaigenfeed=4067 http://sverigesradio.se/api/radio/radio.aspx?type=broadcast&codingformat=.m4a&metafile=asx&id=2971601 Is m4a just unsupported through mysqueezebox.com or is the link in a strange format? -- pacc pacc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32312 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77318 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Stream music from squeezebox server to smartphone
Try connecting any netradio player to server:9000/stream.mp3. You can now select a device called mozilla-something (or maybe other browsername?) It will play, but with considerable delay due to the way stream.mp3 buffers on the device. If you need playback and cannot live with the delay of stream.mp3 there is no other choice than iPhone. I _think_ playback in Squeezecommander for Android is under development. But it is not there yet. -- Muele BR Mogens 2 Radios (1 battery), 2 Controllers, 2 Receivers, 1 Squeezeplay.
