[slim] Connecting to slimserver over the internet
Hi, my slimserver config all works fine on my home lan. I have multiple radios and booms with no problems. It would be useful though to be able to connect to over the internet so I've configured my firewall to allow incoming traffic on 3483 udp/tcp and 9000 tcp. I've restarted the slimserver.pl daemon (running on UNIX) without the --cliaddr, --httpaddr or --playeraddr settings so it is listening on all interfaces. But, I still cannot connect my Squeezebox Radio over the internet. When I snoop the interface I can see the traffic coming in but my radio still cannot connect to my library. It is kind of half working though because I can connect to the web interface over the internet on port 9000. Is there anything obvious that I have missed on my firewall or server setup? Or is there any debugging I can put on my server process as there is nothing in the logs regarding my failed attempts to connect. Any clues appreciated as I'm at a bit of a loss about this. Re: [slim] Persistent, repeated, and serial artwork scan omissions
I used to have a lot of the same problems that you do with SBS not finding artwork when doing a new & changed scan. It seemed totally random - scan five new albums and sometimes it would find all five covers, sometimes three, sometimes zero. I haven't seen too many problems, though, in the last couple of releases. I believe a part of the problem is the artwork caching code, which has bugs. You might try clearing out the artwork cache plus doing the timestamp trick in lieu of doing a full clear & rescan. Artwork scanning and caching in 7.6 is much more reliable, although it still doesn't pick up changed or new artwork for existing albums. Unfortunately, 7.6 can be a b*tch to get running reliably, if you can get it running at all. It's still a long long way from being ready for release. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88141 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Persistent, repeated, and serial artwork scan omissions
In the past I've noticed occasional omissions of CD artwork in the web interface which was easily corrected by simply enacting a minor change in the file tags so that when rescanned, the album is flagged as "new or changed". However, with my last series of scans of newly ripped albums, certain albums, usually in a series of 5 or 6, would come up without album art in the web interface. Some could be corrected using the technique above, but some would stubbornly refuse to show the CD cover after multiple file tag changes and rescans. Today, I did a complete database clear and rescan, and all of the "resistant" CD art displays perfectly fine. If the clear and rescan didn't take a couple of hours, I'd be fine with this solution on a regular basis. Re: [slim] Need advise on a Squeezebox system
Unless I am wrong Touch will do digital volume control, you erase some bits to lower the volume. I use the old-style SB3 set to volume=100% and through its jack port I control my amps for volume up/down with the IR Blaster plugin. So I use full digital resolution all the time. I don't think IR Blaster works with Touch but I may be wrong. I don't understand the "cat5 splitter" thing you mention. If you have a single network a single cable will do up to the patchbay. If you intend to use multiple networks at the same time then you need to connect something to the patchbay. It could be a router but I think the best solution would be to use a switch that can handle VLANs. Virtual lans give you multiple virtual links over a single cable. Defining VLANs gives you the same effect as running additional sets of cables throughout the site. The SB players cannot handle VLANs (neither can your favorite printer) but you can configure the switch to make a specific port part of a specific LAN. The mac (since 10.5 AFAIK) is very apt at handling VLANs. I use a 2010 mac mini as my desktop computer in my home office. It is configured to belong to 6 or 7 separate networks (yes, I know ) and it uses a single cable up to a VLAN-capable switch. Configuration is very easy. Just add a network interface in the GUI. -- epoch1970 Daily dose delivered by: 3 SB Classic, 1 SB Boom iPeng (iPhone + iPad) SqueezeCenter 7.4.2 (Debian 5.0) with plugins: MusicIP Server Power Control by Gordon Harris WeatherTime by Martin Rehfeld IRBlaster by Gwendesign (Felix) Find cover art by bpa BBC iPlayer, SwitchPlayer by Triode PowerSave by Jason Holtzapple TrackStat, Song Info, Song Lyrics by Erland Isaksson SaverSwitcher, ContextMenu by Peter Watkins. epoch1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16711 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88125 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Need advise on a Squeezebox system
Hi folks. This is my first time posting so I would just like to say hi from Dublin! I have just finished ripping my cd collection to HD using XLD (Mac ripper). Let me say that I am a Mac person and have little knowledge of the Windows OS. I am also very familiar with iTunes. So, here is the situation. I have three locations where I would like my music available. A) The recording studio. This has an analog console and the main speakers are ATC SCM 300s. B) The office. This has a pair of Dynaudio BM6a active speakers. C) Home, which is next door to the studio. Again, a pair of Dynaudio BM6a active speakers will be in the kitchen (hopefully!). The studio has a central machine room for computers, amps etc. There is an ethernet patchbay here and there are ethernet lines running to all three of the above locations. I was thinking of storing the HD in the machine room and getting a Mac mini. It is the next step I really need help with. The Squeezebox Touch looks like a great product with good D/A. Running an ethernet cable from the machine room to the studio and taking an analog output from the Touch to feed into the console seems simple enough. However, I'm unsure of two things. 1. When I run an ethernet feed to the office and connect a Touch, do I need a volume control for the Dynaudios and if so, can someone recommend one. I presume the Squeezebox does not control volume? This same question also applies to the Dynaudios in the house. I seem to recall hearing about a remote, maybe that would do it? 2. I have my heart set on not using WiFi as the ethernet is already there. However I do need to split the feed from the server output (Mac) to the three destinations. I guess a simple cat5 splitter will do the job. That's it for now. Thanks in advance for any advise. -- Beech Beech's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=47286 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88125 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
