Re: [slim] Acer Aspire Revo: Good Server Bones?
I'd think the desktop edition would be fine. although you're after a "server", you'll only have a couple of clients. "server" operating systems are for data centre's and so on. You can set up file shares and even quotas and so on with ubuntu desktop edition just fine. I doubt you'll need any more than that. -- slippyr4 slippyr4's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73774 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Acer Aspire Revo: Good Server Bones?
Thanks for the reply slippyr4. Fair comment, I'll try to ask a slightly more direct question. If I want to use the Revo as a replacement for the QNAP, effectively as a file server, do I need to install Ubuntu Server, or will the desktop version do the job? I'm guessing I need the Server version but I've had a look round and can't find the answer. If so how difficult is the Server version to install? If I'm asked about DNS and DHCP it might be a bit beyond me. But for £200 the Revo looks a good deal for 4MB RAM with a wireless keyboard and mouse, even if I end up with Windows and just use it as a PC. -- solder fumes solder fumes's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49986 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73774 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] SB3 Broken. Replacement adaptor advice needed
Hi all, After almost 5 years, my SB3 is dead. However, I am suspecting that the power adaptor is the culprit (but cannot be sure). I guess the only way to tell is to buy a new adaptor. Does anybody in the UK have any experience of these adaptors: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Squeezebox-player-replacement-adaptor/dp/B002J9DHMS/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1316858207&sr=1-1 If so (assuming that they work) how do they compare with lead length? Any shorter and I'll have problems. Keeping my fingers crossed that the adaptor is to blame - I'm missing my music (and my BBC iplayer as I use squeezebox to connect my tv to the internet). Re: [slim] Squeezebox 3 help
SB3 can use JVC_DVD IR codes, or try the NET:UDAP utility hack for setup (no idea if that will work until you get SB3 onto the network first). http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57861 -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90542 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] iPeng Update: More Music: SoundCloud, Aupeo, hypem.com... anyone?
Well, both functions are usually adding tracks. The only thing is that "Add next" got changed to "Play next" in a recent iPeng update meaning that it makes the player start playback if it's currently paused or off but it sill never deletes a playlist. You can turn this off in Settings->iPeng Settings. That it started playback with the second track is indeed a bug (happens with empty playlists) and will be fixed in the next update. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote and *New: iPeng for iPad*, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89873 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Acer Aspire Revo: Good Server Bones?
That's a how long is a piece of string question really. The 3700 would be an ideal server. Putting windows on it would be very easy. Putting ubuntu on it would also be pretty easy - the installer approaches windows in it's ease of use and simplicity. Where you could get unstuck is if you have problems - odd crashes, driver issues, stuff like that. They are generally tougher to fix in linux than windows. However it's all down to experience. i'd say go for it. There's a huge ubuntu support community out there and if you do have some issues there are people who'll help you out. -- slippyr4 slippyr4's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73774 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Squeezebox Receiver discontinued?
just my $0.02, it is sad that they have stopped offering the receiver. Not that it is my concern, but logitech may be presenting a barrier to first time purchases of the squeezebox system with the removal of the receiver. That is how I started out and have become quite loyal to the logitech brand since. -- rensato rensato's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=49965 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74256 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
