Re: [slim] Napster UK closing down

2012-02-08 Thread toby10

Here in the US Rhapsody simply credited your new Rhapsody account with
whatever balance was remaining on your Napster account. So if someone
had just resubscribed with Napster for $60 (one year + 60 pm3's) your
credit on Rhapsody was also $60, BUT that is only about 5 months of
Rhapsody service and no included mp3 downloads.

Steve Leveille is very non-political. The broadcast is very light and
sometimes comical. I enjoy that kind of entertainment late at night
sometimes.

[slim] How many people can listen to a radio station's stream?

2012-02-08 Thread buffettck

Is it until the station's bandwidth is used up or something? I have one
local station that always seems slammed in the afternoon. Most of the
time I'll get some sort of Host Server Full type error message. I
just keep hitting the button and, eventually, I get the stream. If I
switch off to another station and try to go back, same thing and I have
to try again. Not a big deal really, but I found it interesting that it
*appears* to have a limit as to how many people can listen at once and I
can receive it when someone else drops off that station's stream. This
is the only station I've found that does this.

this sometimes happens to me with the 192kbs mp3 stream from Radio
Paradise (too many listeners, so I can't connect).

Interesting... So, it's not just an isolated thing with my radio
station. I guess this could occur with any station, if they had enough
people connected. The variable regarding the total number of listeners
being how big of a data pipe the station is willing to pay for...

and since radioparadise is a small (but high quality) operation, I
suspect their pipelines are much smaller than say, WABC in NYC.

One more thing I'd like to add to this wonderful controller

The option to play the rest of the album if you select one track. Like,
say I want to listen to the second track when it ends I want it to move
 on to track three.

You might not know that there is already a function to 'jump' from the
now playing screen to the browse of the album screen by pressing on the
artist name. From the browse screen you can select further track(s) to
either 'play next, or add to the end of the current playlist.

Alternatively, if you press on the album name on the now playing
screen, it jumps to a screen showing the album, where you can choose to
play the entire album next or add the entire album to the end of the
current playlist.

Not quite the 'play the rest of album from track X' option, but might
still possibly be useful to you?

In addition to the number of listeners it's also the number of bits
being sent to each listener. For example, my local NPR station streams
at 32kbps and 64kbps, and that's fine for news and talk. That's also
why RP appears to have a tighter limit on there 192kbps stream (which
is sometimes maxed out) than they do on their 128kbps stream, which
always seems to be available.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released

2012-02-08 Thread Guernsey Zoo

As a side effect of playing with the jump to album from now playing for
my reply above, it struck me that sometimes it might be useful to be
able to jump to Artist, for those times when you are playing an
assorted or random selection and get reminded of an artist that you
might want to hear more of.

At those times, jumping to all tracks by Artist search by pressing on
the Artist name would be handy.

Likewise with the song title, sometimes in a random selection I hear a
cover of a song that prompts me to want to listen to the original or an
alternative version of that song.

At those times it would be useful to jump to a track search by pressing
on the track name.

Seriously though, it is already a great app, and like many who have
already posted, I agree with keeping it simple. It is already very
feature rich, perhaps there could be a way in Ben's bug tracker for
users to suggest and then vote for possible enhancements?

It is brilliant that Ben has already added many tweaks in response to
forum posts, I am very happy with the app as it is, anything that he
chooses to add in the future will be gratefully received.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...

2012-02-08 Thread Guernsey Zoo

I have been experimenting with Tasker this afternoon and have had
encouraging results.
Here is some info that might help others wanting to give it a try:

Install Tasker (it is a paid for app)

Add a profile, I imaginitively called mine 'Headphones'
First Context (the trigger) is 'State', 'Hardware,'Headset Plugged',
type is 'No Mic'.
Create a task, name 'Start Squeeze'
Add some actions, I chose the following;
'App','Load App','Squeeze Player'
'Task,'Wait,'2 seconds'
'Media',Media Control','Toggle Pause'
'App','Load App','Orange Squeeze
'Task','Wait,'2 seconds
'Audio','Media Volume','100'

I found I needed the 'wait' comands for it to work consistently

On the 'Profiles screen, long press on the Start Task, 'Add Exit Task
Create a task, name 'Close Squeeze'
Add some actions, I chose;
'App','Load App','Orange Squeeze'
'App','Go Home'
'App','Load App','Squeeze Player'
'Audio','Media Volume','75'
'Task','Wait','2 seconds'
'Media','Media Control','Stop'
'App','Go Home'

There is a 'Kill App' action, but it didn't seem to do anything to
Squeeze Player.
I had a couple of crashes during my experimenting, which I sent the
reports to Stefan, but I am fairly sure were my fault, not Squeeze
Player's. I have had no crash with the above settings.

Following the success of the above, I added a profile triggered by
Bluetooth connect to my Logitech Z515 speaker, using the same actions
as above, the 'State trigger was 'Net', 'Bluetooth Connected', selected
my (already paired) speaker, then added my existing 'start' and 'close'
tasks to this profile.

Both profiles seem to do exactly what I need, so thanks again to Uzi2
for the app suggestion, and to Stefan for the ideas on how to use it.

There is also a Hardware, Docked, with Car and Desk options for 'state

I believe that erland's TrackStat plugin will do this for you.
Description says that it will export back to itunes.
