I don't think there is any podcasts for Musikguiden
"http://sverigesradio.se/sida/laddaner.aspx?programid=4067";. However, I
guess you could add individual programs (from 30 dagarsarkivet) to your
favourites at mysqueezebox.com. You won't get a subscription for the
shows but you can at least listen to it through your SB

[slim] Need help getting Logitech Media Server 7.7.2 to work on GoFlex Home.

2012-06-26 Thread maihoaomv

I have a couple questions concerning LMS on the GoFlex Home server
running ArchLinux ARM. I had to reload the alarm OS because I couldn't
login after I tried to upgrade the software with pacman. I installed the
latest version of alarm (kernel 3.1.10-11-ARCH) but the older version of
LMS 7.7.1 version (logitechmediaserver-7.7.1-1-arm.pkg.tar.xz which
worked perfectly on the older version) wouldn't install because perl
dependencies need to < 5.15. I played around with the .PKGINFO inside
the .xz file and after changing the perl dependencies to < 5.17 I was
able to get it to install LMS 7.7.1. But when I try to start the daemon
it fails.

When I try to start 7.7.1 as my user I get the follwoing error message:

$ /etc/rc.d/logitechmediaserver start

But if I try to start it as root I get this error message instead:

I don't understand why the modules are not being loaded. So I'm stuck.
Anyone got any suggestions on how I can get this to work?

I tried to build the package for 7.7.2 but it failed to successively
compile. I tried to downgrade perl to 5.14 but was unable to find the
.xz package. I also tried to build perl-5.14 from source but couldn't do
that either.

I can't find a LMS 7.7.2 pre-compiled package for arm on the internet
either. Does anyone know if someone has succeeded in building a package
for LogitechMediaSever 7.7.2 that will run on the GoFlex Home?

I can live with LMS 7.7.1 if only I could get it to run.
thanks
John

Re: [slim] What if Logitech pulls the plug

2012-06-26 Thread 86atc250r

Sorry to get away from the UPnP / DLNA discussion but.

If Logitech was to pull the plug on mysqueezebox.com, I'm guessing
there's enough programming talent and motivation in the community that a
workable solution to mysqueezebox.com would become a reality pretty
quickly if push came to shove. Who knows where it might go from
there I've seen it happen in smaller communities already. The
geeks will find a solution, we always do.

What a great platform. I can't believe after all these years, there
still isn't really anything that touches the flexibility of these boxes
in allowing me to listen to what I want, how I want.

[slim] Websites

2012-06-26 Thread DaGoo

I am in the process of starting up an internet radio (Winamp /
Shoutcast) with an external server bringing it onto the net
(Wavestreamer). The website for the radio has a Windows Mediaplayer that
starts playing as soon as the page is launched, and which works fine.
However, when I try to connect to the website using Squeezebox, the
station is not found (or a message of no streaming found). However, when
I connect the Squeezebox to the Wavestream port
(moon.wavestreamer.com:..), Squeezebox plays as expected.

Anybody who knows where I miss out, as I want the Squeezebox to connect
to the radios website and not via the rather cryptic Wavestreamer
connection?

Thanks.

I don't think so. You might be able to get the Reciva to play from LMS
server running on your computer, assuming the Reciva is DLNA.
But you won't get any Sync that way either.

A big part of it is the lack or hardware. You have the radio and the
touch - that's it!! And stores like Target aren't shoving them in
peoples faces next to the Bose products. Crutchfield doesn't even
feature the squeezebox in their catalog anymore - just Sonos. The best,
most robust, easiest to use software isn't going to fix these issues.

I'm a hardcore user and an avid music enthusiest. What matters to me
isn't going to matter to 90% of the users, so satisfying my needs isn't
going to bring droves of new squeezebox users into the fold.

Feature-wise, I'm happy with what we have today. I love that I can
easily turn my iOS and Andriod devices into portable squeezeboxes.
Software stability is another story. My server stops for no apparent
reason. If it doesn't stop by itself, I have to restart it periodically
because of a memory leak. The only reason I'm on this version of
software is Rhapsody support. The last version of 7.3 was solid as a
rock, but doesn't support changes Rhapsody made in their protocol. The
LMS versions scare me with all of the problems people reported along the
way. Problems were always fixed super fast...not so any more.

Sorry to sound like a sourpus and a negative-nancy, but I think the
issues surrounding the squeezebox are beyond help from the community.
Logitech needs to relaunch the Squeezebox line with some new exciting
hardware and marketing support.

So, what's missing, what features do you think would make everyone
purchase a Squeezebox instead of Sonos ?

Is it just the lack of hardware with Logitech logo on the front as
TheLastMan suggested or is there something we could do in software that
would make everyone select a Squeezebox instead of Sonos ?

Also, assuming we prefer the open Squeezebox products in front of the
closed Sonos products, is there something we as a community could do to
improve the situation ?
All the premature predictions of Squeezebox end of life mentioned in a
lot of threads in the forum is definitely a step in the wrong direction,
but maybe there is something else we can do ?

Re: [slim] What is missing from your Squeezebox experience ?

2012-06-26 Thread maggior

I read "3" and thought "uh, that's the Boom", but then I realized you
meant something you can connect your own speakers too. In the world of
powered speakers, would that really be necessary. Somebody that is
inclined to buy their own passive speakers would also be inclined to buy
their own amplification. Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm amazed that Sonos has jumped ahead of Logitech with this. Logitech
had a huge head start and certainly the brand power to see it through.
It upsets me when I go to my local department store (Target) and see a
large prominent Sonos display. Sonos is also so expensive!!

I miss the active development of the software. I also think it's time

Re: [slim] What is missing from your Squeezebox experience ?

2012-06-26 Thread TheLastMan

Usually most "consumer" users rather than "enthusiasts" want to keep it
simple. Most of the suggestions here are from rather hard-core users,
as you would expect on a dedicated forum.

Unfortunately Sonos has beaten Squeezebox in this particular format
battle. Now when I describe my Squeezebox system to friends they say
"oh, you mean it works like a Sonos".

The reason Sonos won is they offer a fully integrated hardware and
software system that offers a whole working setup from Speakers, amps,
clients and access points making sure they match visually as well as
technically - and their bespoke wireless net where every client is also
an access point was a stroke of genius that solved the big bug that has
forever plagued the Squeezebox.

They keep up with Apple and Microsoft by not relying on either company
for any part of their systems - except to make sure their "server"
software works on both setups. Even then, I know four people with Sonos
systems and none of them run a server, listening entirely through
on-line systems like Napster/Rhapsody and Spotify. That means their
Sonos systems work completely independently from any other piece of
computer hardware in their houses, connecting only at their router.

Hi-fi is a dying hobby. 90%+ of people buying consumer electronics want
a whole "system" - in most cases this means just a single "music box"!

They certainly don't want to buy their amplifier from one company,
speakers from another, CD player from a third and digital streamer from
a fourth.

So, what would most users want from Logitech?

It is probably too late to create their own wireless net, which would
probably infringe Sonos patents anyway. However they could sell a
1 - Squeezebox branded wireless access point / bridge / wireless
extender
In addition to the Touch and Radio which are fine,
2 - visually matched high quality powered speakers to go with the Touch
(not just some crappy PC speakers)
3 - a player with an integrated amplifier (why oh why oh why have they
never done this obvious thing!!!)
4 - a player with an integrated amplifier and speakers (Boom II, but
prettier)
and because the Squeezebox system is aimed more at those with their own
digital music libraries
5 - a dedicated (Linux) server to run the software

I know that 3rd parties have provided all of these at one time or
another, but my point is that they have to be visually integrated and
produced and supported by Logitech.

Ideally all the components, including the Touch, Radio and new hardware
would have a design overhaul to make them prettier. Provide hardware in
white as well as black to better match existing interior decor.

That way, somebody could go into an electronics store and buy a complete
working Squeezebox system from network and client through to speakers.

Of course this will never happen now. Logitech still had the time to do
this when they bought Squeezebox but they failed to put in the necessary
investment and commitment and now this technically superior platform has
lost out to the inferior one.

Anybody else remember Betamax?

Re: [slim] Trying to add Musikguiden podcast from sr.se

2012-06-26 Thread bpa

A strange mish mash of audio standard are being used.

The Podcast references an ASX playlist which contains an mpeg4 file
marked "video/mp4"

LMS negotiates allfo the above and gets to the actual file:
http://sverigesradio.se/topsy/ljudfil/4005520.m4a

This file will not play on an Sb3 when transcoded by faad and also not
natively decoded on a Touch. The file IIRC there is a mpeg4 file
format which Touch and faad cannot play when it is streamed as a podcats
- I think the "header" is at the end of the file.

If you change the mp4 transcoder to ffmpeg and the file can be played if
mpeg4-/aac "native" is disabled.

The custom-convert.conf file using ffmpeg for a Linux system will look
like below but you will lose ffw/rew

Code:

mp4 mp3 * *
  # FRB:{BITRATE=-B %B}T:{START=-ss %s}
  [ffmpeg] -loglevel quiet -f mp4 -i $FILE$ -f wav - | [lame] --silent -q
$QUALITY$ $BITRATE$ - -

  mp4 pcm * *
  # FRB:{BITRATE=-B %B}T:{START=-ss %s}
  [ffmpeg] -loglevel quiet -f mp4 -i $FILE$ -f u16le -

  mp4 flc * *
  # FRB:{BITRATE=-B %B}T:{START=-ss %s}
  [ffmpeg] -loglevel quiet -f mp4 $START$ -i $FILE$ -f flac -
