Thats another problem due to that slimp3 and sb1 have much smaller buffers , I can see it be a bit problematic to make syncing code that works perfect in this scenario . It gets compounded by LMS transcoding in many instances as slimp3 don't support that many file formats loading the server more , in many cases it's going to be wav thats gets streamed which makes for a higher bandwidth use and the buffer gets even smaller (in how many seconds of music it stores ). I can see wifi having further negative influence here too . I have arranged all my music in folders over the years. I have about 100 gig or so, and find that navigating through my music folders (on a NAS) is slow. The albums/artists caching is great but I'd much rather go to my music through the folder structure. Is there anything I can do to speed this up or any plans to cache in a future release? df9864's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33091 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80553 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] How long have your SB's lasted?
My strategy for extending the life of my devices is the autodim plugin which shuts off the screens when I'm asleep, so hopefully that will help them endure. I think I set up my radio using switch saver to do the same at one point. My duet controller's battery died at one point, but once I ordered the replacement, somehow it came back to life before the replacement arrived and has been good since. The controller is cradled 99+% of the time (its basically an ersatz touch), so the actual battery life isn't tested much. I picked up an SB3 on the cheap one time from craigslist as when I went to buy it, the device wouldn't power on. I asked the seller to let me try to revive it. I took it home and removing the wifi card brought it back to life. We agreed the half the selling price and I replaced the card and we're good. Hopefully that will be the extent of my problems for a while. sander's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10737 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96314 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Calling Sean Adams?
Ah! I used USB ASIO boxes, one to output SPDIF that went to a receiver, the other just 2 channel audio to some amplified PC speakers. http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx I think I paid maybe $28 for each. They improved sound -quality- a tad, but -maybe- that's why I wasn't having synchronization problems. Again, these are hardly high end gear; they're built around a TI DAC that also converts to SPDIF. I remember being somewhat sad about the specs when I looked it up 'way back. I got 'em mostly to sidestep any issues with DirectSound. I've since given one to a nephew (budding recording engineer) and moved my office from the room adjacent to my serious listening area to the basement (long story), so it'd be hard to re-test. There must be other people using ASIO with squeezeslave or Ralphy wouldn't have bothered supporting it...? bobkoure's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14646 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96213 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Many thanks for this. I have been trying it under ML (which by the way is now on 10.8.1 so is no longer a .0 release). Sorry to say that it still sends output to Airplay (very quietly) despite the environment variable settings. I tried with Built-in Output. I will double-check tomorrow that I have the set-up and definitions right. Anyone else been trying? I don't know if this is related, but Rogue Amoeba's SoundSource, which I used quite happily under Lion, is marked by them as not compatible with Mountain Lion. nonnoroger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35581 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96328 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Synchronization problems with software players is a very old thing. Been around since squeezeslave and SoftSqueeze (remember that) were babies. The lucky config generally isn't as simple as CPU and RAM. It's the things that get in the middle such as soundcard drivers that often cause the latencies that make sync'ing of software players difficult. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96213 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezePlay for Mac OSX
I've created an OSX i386 and x86_64 only build with the ability to select the output device and set the maximum sample rate. It is based on the 7.8 branch Jul 17, 2012 git check in which I've exported back to subversion as I really dislike git. The 'OSX intel port' (http://squeezeslave.googlecode.com/files/SqueezePlay-7.8.0r142.dmg) has been tested with 10.6 and 10.7. Mountain Lion has not been tested as I don't have a Mac running it. This version plays 24/96 wave and flac files natively using the latest LMS 7.8.0 nightly. The maximum sample rate can be set as high as 192000 in the USEPAMAXSAMPLERATE key, see below, but I haven't tested it, any value higher defaults to 192000. Installation? Mount the SqueezePlay-7.8.0r142.dmg disk image file and drag the SqueezePlay.app icon to Applications. How do I change the output device and/or maximum sample rate? Create a file called environment.plist in your home directory in the .MacOSX folder. You may need to create the .MacOSX folder. So the full path to my file is /Users/ralphy/.MacOSX/environment.plist Code: http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd";> USEPADEVICE Sennheiser USB Headset USEPAMAXSAMPLERATE 96000 To obtain the list of available output devices that can be used for the USEPADEVICE key you can download 'squeezeslave for OSX' (http://squeezeslave.googlecode.com/files/squeezeslave-1.2-376-osx.tar.gz), extract the tar file and run squeezeslave with the -L option. Code: $ ./squeezeslave-1.2-376 -L Output devices: * 1: (Core Audio) Built-in Output (2/12) 2: (Core Audio) Sennheiser USB Headset (2/13) You can see how I obtained the exact match for my Headset. Once you've finished editing the environment.plist file you MUST logout and log back in before the keys will be available to SqueezePlay. You can check if the values have been set from the Terminal App. Code: $ set | grep -i usepa USEPADEVICE='Sennheiser USB Headset' USEPAMAXSAMPLERATE=96000 Hopefully this works for the Mountain Lion folks to override the new AirPlay default output devices. ralphy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3484 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96328 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Anybody looked at the options from Linn, Cyrus and Naim? All of then offer music streamers which will play your local music collection and Internet radio via Ethernet and/or WiFi. I think some of them also offer other services like Spotify. Just wondering how these compare to SqueezeBox hardware. Obviously they all stream but do they offer all the features found in LMS and iPeng app? Linn actually abandoned making CD players a few years ago to consentrate on streaming devices. But they do carry a very big price tag. norderney's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=378 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96282 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

At a guess, some user will not be happy with the analogue and spdif interfaces on these boxes as they will not have been designed for discriminating users. Support of USB DAC would be the key issue. Given the difficulty that Triode had with Touch getting DACs to work propers with Touch - a developer might make some revenue by creating a satisfactory kernel and driver although given open licenses it might be hard to be able to keep the changes secret. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96282 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] A big "THANK YOU" to everyone
I agree with the general topic and I'm both impressed and thankful to the great work and patience everyone both inside Logitech and in the community has shown during the past years, it's also important to remember that this community is not just about developers, I also want to thank all active, helpful and thoughtful forum members who makes it worth to come back here day after day to see what new interesting posts there are. I'm not going to mention any names because the forum has a limit of number of characters in each post, but thanks to everyone that come back here day after day with a positive attitude wanting to make the system better and most importantly wanting to help other users making their system work better. However, having said that, I don't look at this as the end, Logitech might have stopped selling the Squeezebox product but I'm definitely still interested in improving my music listening experience and I'm sure I'm not alone. So to me it really doesn't feel like this is the end, it's the start of a new exciting journey of finding a better way to enjoy the music. The future will tell who will take the lead but I'm definitely going to stick around in this community because it wouldn't surprise me at all if the future journey starts right here, especially considering all creative third party developers available here who now have the chance to take the lead instead of waiting for Logitech to do it. So, let's try to keep this community active and let's keep encourage the creativity among all third party developers and let's continue being helpful to users with problems. Let's all be part of the next journey to musical bliss, I'm definitely ready for the ride! erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96322 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

6 radios and 1 boom give me music all through my house and outside. While I do still wish radios were stereo, I can't argue that they have a great performance for the formfactor. On the whole, been very happy with my squeezeboxes, and can't really see any other product with the flexibility to replace it for everything it can do. Occasionally, I see someone's ultra high end home audio system and feel EXTREMELY smug knowing that I can do MORE with my squeezeboxes, LMS, and my ipad and andriod tablets as controllers. Poor rest of the world who is stuck streaming music from their iphones to bluetooth speakers (which probably makes even the radio sound good by comparison) and watching their iphone battery drain. I still can't grasp why logitech would continue with an incompatible UE radio and lose such a valuable ecosystem, but that's a subject for other threads. Re: [slim] Squeezebox without Logitech
One of the nice things about the Allwinner A10 based systems is that they can be restored using USB and a Windows PC so supposedly impossible to brick which can be an issue with repurposing other media players. This A10 system ( http://store.cloudsto.com/android-mini-pc-s/a10-media-pc-8gb-nand-1gb-ddr3-ram-detail.html ) is a bit dear has 1Mb Ram (not sure how much GPU takes) but it would seem possible to run a server as well as a player for when mysb.com goes away. Given the pace of development it is likely that this spec would become the norm for next years products. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96282 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Squeezebox without Logitech
Labarum wrote: > Surely a few knowledgeable folk could make "a bit on the side" setting > up cottage industries to sell ready configured hardware to the likes of > me? I find it difficult to see the economics working out for a cottage industry. The basic spec of the unit looks good but for a cottage industry (i.e. selling 100's) using a ready made box may not be the best way. For example, the A100 seems to be unavailable now. To guarantee supply you need bigger numbers. I expect the users to be SB users and so audio quality might be an issue which means bundling in a USB audio i/f. So for a cottage industry The A100/A1000/A2000 approach might be better if enduse buys box from Amazon and then cottage industry was selling a SD card which does all the system setup (i.e replace Android with Linux + a soft player). However with this approiach there is no opportunity to get any returns. I think the cottage industry is only vaiable when there is a USP or "secret sauce" such as hardware with good audio and a good clock necessary for sync or perhaps a better software player with custm s/w which has managed to get agreement from a Music streamer to play the streams bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96282 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android
Hi I'm having a weird problem using squeezecommander on my HTC Desire Z when connecting via 3G I have a dyndns.org hostname, and I have configured my router to forward port 9001 to my server correctly (I'm using port 9001 as I use 9000 for Twonky) Now I can connect to the web interface on my phone, I can see what's playing and control my player OK so it all seems to be working OK. However the main music menu in Squeezecommander just never loads. I only have "search" and "settings" as menu items. Clicking search will even let me find and play music but the other menus (artists etc) never load. The now playing views and control of my player also works OK. I just can't browse music. My server shows twice in the list of servers, once for my Dyndns address and once for the local IP address. When connected via WiFi the dyndns entry shows as a duplicate and I get a message "already connected to the server! Please us the local server "Joggler Music" I tried ignoring the local server and then connnecting to the Dyndns server and weirdly I am unable to connect to the Dyndns entry when I am connected to my local network. I get an error message flash up of "java.net.ConnectException: mydyndnsname.dyndns.org/176.xxx.xxx.xxx:9001 - Connection refused" the x's in that message are my Internet IP address and the mydyndnsname is my host name. I've tried the open source squeezer android app which although very basic does let me control and browse no problem connecting via dyndns so altogether I'm a little confused. jimbobvfr400's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56857 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69352 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] A big "THANK YOU" to everyone
If it weren't for people like Ben, Michael, Andy, Dean, Felix, Richard, Sean, etc., I think the squeezebox would have withered much sooner than this. Ben gave us a glimpse in a recent posting of the inner workings of the team and how they championed the Squeezebox and stayed "true to the cause". Ben even compared the situation to watching your dog die as bad decisions were being made regarding the product line. These guys were obviously passionate about their work and the product line. It was an amazing experience to be involved in the community during the product's rise and hayday. Along with Goodsounds, I'd like to express my sincere gratitude too! You guys created an awesome system for music lovers like myself! This system will continue to give myself and my family great joy for much time to come. Re: [slim] Squeezebox without Logitech
A raspberry Pi solution means a case, psu, wifi etc has to be sourced and so could be a lot of hassle and not for many end users. If price is an issue, there are lots of "Allwinner A10" based systems and as a possible Squeezebox replacement I think the Mele A100 looks good. For about US$80 (from aliexpress.com) it needs a PSU but is already boxed and has analogue audio, spdif, hdmi, wifi, IR control and 3 USB ports (see http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7/mele-a100). It would need to be tested to see the quality of audio but USB provides opportunity for using better quality adaptors. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96282 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] How long have your SB's lasted?
Here's my purchase history: Nov 2006 - SB3 Dec 2009 - Boom Aug 2010 - SB3 and Boom Oct 2010 - Boom Aug 2011 - Boom All of these are still working perfectly and I am obviously hoping they do so for some years to come. Of the SB3s one is Logitech branded and black, the other SlimDevices branded and sliver. The earlier purchase was from an on-line retailer and the later one from eBay so I suspect the earlier purchase was a new one with Logitech branding and the later purchase for a used one with the SlimDevices branding. Looking back over that I remember buying the first SB3 on recommendation from someone at work because I had bought a new house and the PC was no longer close to the HiFi. The first boom was when our daughter first had her own bedroom and I wanted to be able to play our music collection in her bedroom. 2010 was buying another new house, setting up a home office with some bookshelf speakers and one SB3 and the other Boom in our bedroom and after that it was just putting them in rooms that did not have one so we can now listen is any room of the house except the bathroom. Indeed, and the provision of a device with digital audio out may make some of the companies operating on-line streaming services more nervous about agreeing to work with the new system. Even though content owners have relented on some aspects of DRM they would still prefer for there to be no way to obtain a flawless digital copy of their content. So why would Logitech develop a riskier product that has much more limited appeal than something like the radio? [slim] A big "THANK YOU" to everyone
I want to express my Thank You to everyone who contributed over the years to the creation and development of the Squeezebox product line. I was looking for CD changers/jukebox type arrangements and had found nothing suitable, then I found you. It was love at first sight. Your system changed my life and my home in ways and to an extent I never could have imagined. I think some people are deserving of special thanks. The names I know are ones who have had the most visibility here, like Michael, Andy, Ben, (and I'm sorry, I know there are others). These guys all cared enough to keep working hard to improve the products and system capabilities under less than ideal circumstances. We've all greatly benefited from that. In their spare time (that's a joke), they also worked to help present the right kind of company-to-user interactions, of a kind that probably wouldn't have happened otherwise. They always were helpful in dealing with some of SB's most enthusiastic users, those here in these forums. They all also have done everything possible to keep carrying the flag forward under what's likely been very difficult and frustrating circumstances, even while seemingly taking friendly fire to do so. Then there were the multitudes of "others", those who made contributions from "outside" the company and remained outside. People like Erland, Pippin, bpa, and many others (again sorry for names omitted) whose passions sparked ideas and capabilities that so many have come to rely upon and enjoy. Also, there were so many of y'all who funneled your SB enthusiasm into providing the company testing and feedback help. I've got my spare units and multiple backup copies of server software squirreled away, I should be able to maintain the status quo I want for many years to come. I'd like to say one last thanks to all of you and good luck and best wishes for the future.
