Re: [slim] Community Funded Squeezebox Replacement - Would you be interested?
I thought I'd give a little update on the board design. It's getting close now. But there is a bit of a snag, my wife fell yesterday and severely bruised her ribs (and lots of other places), she is in a lot of pain and I'm pretty much full time taking care of her now. And still trying to get my work projects done, so I'm not sure what time I can give to this for a while. Anyway, I can give some connections: DAC I2S is connected to the AUDMUX5, DAC SPI goes to SPI1, Frequency select goes to GPIO3_27. I got an update on the oscillators I'm going to use. I had a custom oscillator designed with both frequencies in one module with the select built in to the module. They are sending two samples later this month (but that means I can only build two boards instead of three). The production price is only $8 a piece which is insanely low. These oscillators have jitter at about 1ps, vs about 40ps for the ones in the Touch, and 12ps for the ones in the Transporter. Pretty respectable for something that costs $8! Well anyway, maybe this weekend I can get the boards finished. John S. No, cover art does not work, and only worked for a couple of months when DSBridge first appeared. This is really just playing a stream of data from your PC as if it were an internet radio station. Personally I have moved over to Spotify Premium using Triode's brilliant plugin. The ability to run Spotify without a PC makes it so much easier to use. I use it a lot so it is well worth the £10 a month to me, but your mileage may vary. DSBridge is fine if your use is only occasional and you don't mind booting up a PC to run it. Re: [slim] ANN: Orange Squeeze 1.3.0 released!
OK. Having a couple of problems with the app, which frankly are putting me off even using it :( I'm using this on a 10" android tablet. _*Navigating_lists*_ When confronted with a list of thousands of artists, albums or tracks, you obviously want to be able to scroll quicky. I find the tiny scroll widget on the right unfriendly and unreliable. So you scroll the list for the widget to appear, and then you have about 1-2 second to put a finger on it to use it. Miss that and you're probably just going to click a track by accident. If you do 'grab it,' you're quite prone, as you slide you're finger up and down the screen, to losing that grasp. Where you again end up clicking on a track instead. Why not just have a scroll bar ALWAYS displayed down the right, and you can click anywhere you like on it to position yourself in the list. The fancy widget is just that, fancy, but seems to cause unnecessary grief. _*Playing_or_adding_to_play_list*_ So you've got a load of tracks on the screen, and you want to add them to the playlist. You have to go into each one individually, and then selected "+ Add to Playlist". Why not have two buttons next to each entry? A "+" to add to playlist, and a ">" to play now? So you can add tracks to the play list with a single click, rather than multiple clicks and the faff of going into sub options. _*Artwork_not_appearing*_ In searches, some album artwork appears and some does not. I can find all the albums from for an artist, and the first album as art, and the next three do not. Same search in Logitechs free app, returns art for all four albums. Indeed, in Orange Squeeze if you play the artless albums, they then show the art in the "Playing" screen(s). (1) and (2) are app killers for me... (3) is frustrating :( NeilF's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13059 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97467 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Why shouldn't I jump ship to Sonos?
Reading this thread has made me more and more convinced that I am going to try and hang onto my squeezeboxes for as long as I can keep them functioning. Although I recommend Sonos to my friends, it is only because they cannot miss what they have never had. My only anxiety is how I will keep it all working once the MySB web site is dead and gone and what I will lose. I know that I will continue to get Spotify and BBC iPlayer via Triode's plugins (my most used music services) but I will miss Last.fm and the ability to browse radio stations rather than having to add each url one by one into favourites, which would be a real drag! Here's hoping some kind individual will create a plugin to replace this function. A slim hope (pun intended) is that if Logitech drop the UE Smart Radio as well, that will be their last use of the Squeezebox technology gone. They then might be prepared to sell the intellectual property rights in the technology to some other company who might resurrect the original SB ecosystem. I am sure in the right corporate hands Squeezebox could compete with absolutely anything out there. This time, hopefully, this would be a hi-fi company rather than a PC peripherals manufacturer.
