Re: [slim] Is there any continued development of the Squeezebox server software?
Julf wrote: If you can't edit the files themselves (to fix the header fields), maybe you could define a custom conversion function that filters the files in real time? Thanks, Juif. Do you mean a custom conversion function in the slimserver software (probably, as opposed to the transporter itself)? I know nothing about the architecture of the server software or the player device(s) other than the setup features that Logitech provides (I should say provided). I probably would have to depend on a plugin developer to fix this. But since it's a basic issue that affects the playback of all Pro Tools Wav files, if the software were still in development I would bring it up to the developers. If someone in development wants to guide me, I'd have a hand in it, like if there is source code for a plugin that almost does what I need to have done I would try to tackle it. Are there any plans for the open source community to take over the development of the slimserver? Are there any other brands of currently-made players that would be compatible with it? Best wishes and thanks, Bob bobk...@digido.com's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10173 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98450 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It shouldn't be too hard to make a script to do the conversion. I could definitely do it on Linux, but I am not familiar enough with the Mac environment. Do you mean a custom conversion function in the slimserver software (probably, as opposed to the transporter itself)? I was actually thinking about a rule in convert.conf, where you could perhaps define a rule for converting from wav to wav, just as you can define rules for converting flac, mp3 etc. Julf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=42050 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98450 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I've seen a number of low volume manufacturers who use LMS as server for their hardware, not sure anyone is big enough to maintain LMS themselves, I think most of them relies on Logitech distributing LMS (slimserver). I've seen at least one who have decided to distribute their own version (http://www.myvoco.com/), no idea if they are allowed to do it or if they have just ignored the license restrictions which doesn't allow redistribution of some parts. erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98450 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Is there any continued development of the Squeezebox server software?
Based on the recent replies in this thread (thank you all), my best bet is to try applescripting a wav conversion for incoming PT wavs. I do hope that someone tries to resurrect LMS independently. In the meantime I'm going to move to a computer-based player, it's my best option for a platform that's being continually developed. Logitech, what were they thinking? I paid over $2000 for the Transporter and a squeezebox... for it to go dead because the server software is left to die a slow death. I'll bet some home theatre installers put these into home networks for their customers and must be pretty pissed, too. bobk...@digido.com's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10173 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98450 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.2 released
Hi Ralphy, Do you have anyone interested in playing high resolution (88.2, 96, 172.4, 192 kHz) FLAC files with Squeezeslave? (I for one would like that.) [If you'd like some help with that -- and are willing to integrate code changes into your sources, I could try to help out.] Cheers! peng Peng's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59477 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93607 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Try 'squeezelite' (https://code.google.com/p/squeezelite/downloads/list), it can play hires files. ralphy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3484 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93607 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

To get around the fact that Mattel used it before, perhaps it could be joosbox. The intriging thing with this is you don't realize what it means until you say it or hear it aloud. Or maybe joocebox...joosbox could be pronounced jewsbox - problably could be seen as offensive. I have to admit this isn't a completely original idea on my part. I saw this used before with a media streamer for video called joost. I heard it talked about and was surprised when I saw how it was spelled...and I thought it was clever. maggior's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9080 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98200 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] How to Future-Proof your SB Setup
While I am excited to see some plans about Open Source support for the platform, on the other hand I am pragmatic and I guess I think a thread on how to keep the SB investment going, longer term, in a constantly evolving OS environment, can work. I have a number of SB3, SB Boom, SB Touch and SB Radio, and truly like the value proposition. I am not sure when eventually the electronics would give out -they seem well build- but if I consider another 10-15 years of lifetime before I consider an alternative (not all that unusual with audio equipment), I am looking at the current LMS software becoming incompatible with pretty much any environment that may be out there. So the easiest option is prolly to get 2 low spec servers, configure them with compatible OS that works here and now (Ubuntu 12.04), disable updates, and keep them ready for the eventuality. For the next few years, I am running LMS on a dedicated virtual machine on my system. That is a pretty elegant solution (anytime something acts weird I can just delete the old VM and reload the original one within minutes), but the question is at which point VMware Player or Workstation will stop supporting an Ubuntu OS that supports the current and final version of LMS. So I guess over the next few months I will build 2 dedicated backup servers that I simply store up. I am sure even in 15 years there will be a way to integrate IPv4 and 1GE into a home network environment via some adapter. Maybe there'll be some hot new tech that makes me listen to music totally different, but looking at my traditional patterns I doubt such a fundamental audio revolution will happen for audiophiles. Hence I want to think about how to protect my SB environment. pablolie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3816 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98464 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
