Both of these are good , but add mp3tag to that bunch .

Agree that you give up tagging at some level , when it's functional for
my purposes . I do intend to take it up more rigurously as a retirement
project in the future, beats stamp collecting .

Re: [slim] Exclude Directories From Random Play

2013-09-12 Thread wcndave

To be honest when i first ripped my collection of ~500 i did not have
the energy or patience for tagging, and hoped the tagging of the ripper
db would be ok.

Now I've added some itunes, amazon and others, It's getting a bit mad,
but I really don't use genres. Hence I did not think of that as a way
of hiding holiday and kids music.

What would you recommend as a good tagging tool? I have dbpoweramp for
ripping, and mediamonkey for library management.

Thanks, Dave

Ok, that's what I thought in the first place.

I just tagged all the files in those folders to kids and will exclude
that.

I also noticed that as i add files, their genres are not auto added, so
a lot of new music has been excluded from random play.

That's the problem with everyone using their own genres, I now have a
few hundred...I'd quite like 20 or so!

I don't understand why you have to end up with hundreds of genres. If
you have a good tagging tool you should be able to easily clean that up.

You can't really do that. Everything that LMS plays must be in its
library. If you exclude 'Other Audio' from your media folders, you won't
be able to get to it by browsing the Music Folder.

There is no standard you have to set the genre tags yourself just like
many other tags .
Sometime the ripping software sugest no genre at all or the commercial
file you bought did not have any or ( a pet peeve of mine ) the artist
invented some new cool genre :~ .

In general treat the delivered/ripped tags as suggestion and at least
spend a minute or 2 when adding stuff to check them .
If you get things from the " Internet " you'd be surprised what some
thinks are acceptable tagging :)

OK, sorry, don't think you could do this with browse folders, because
any folder in 3 that you browse to will be added to your library.
Seems like tags is the best way to go, all my Christmas stuff is in my
library, but never gets played using "Random Mix" as the tag "Christmas"
is unchecked.

you could use the mp3tag program to tag your files. And the tag the
different genres "childrens music" "education" and so on. Then exclude
these in the random mix genre selection.

One way is to create a folder and add shortcuts to all the folders you
want LMS to scan. Point LMS at this folder. do a clear and rescan.

Re: [slim] Exclude Directories From Random Play

2013-09-12 Thread wcndave

Yes, I saw how the first solution could work, however it requires that I
remember to tag all my material as it's added.

The second solution suggested seemed a lot easier - however I did not
think it could be done. If it can, that would be great!

Ah, so the "select genres to include in mix" is saved and remembered so
each time I do random play it will use the same genre selection.

Regarding the folder, I have two scanned folders which are all that
appears when I select Music Folder. How do I get other folders to
appear in there?

Thanks

If you are ok with purchasing some third party plugins, you can use
Multi Library plugin to define a library for everything in your main LMS
library excluding the kids folder.
In addition to this, you need to use SQL PLaylist + Dynamic Playlist
plugins instead of Random Mix menu, with the SQL Playlist plugin you can
create a "Random songs" playlist which is restricted to the content in
the library you have defined in Multi Library plugin.

Not dirs, but genres: just tag your files appropriately, and you can
easily exclude "kids" etc. from the mix.

No, the "Browse Music Folder" menu even often is used to play things which
have not been scanned yet.

There is no different Layout for tablets. It simply works the same way.
If you already bought sc for your nexus4, just install it on the tablet
