Re: [slim] New Podcast picks on Radio-Staff Picks-Ben's Picks
Sorry to be a 'wet blanket' but I 'd prefer that Staff Picks be made an uninstallable item. It's completely out of date, and I'm not particularly interested in the choices of long-departed staff! Might have been an 'amusing' personal feature years ago, but it's now only of historical interest! In a similar vein, I don't like 'My Music' either sounds like 'My Little Pony' or 'My First Spelling Book' - it should just be 'Music' Yes, I'm feeling grumpy today! Sorry. Re: [slim] Announcement - ickStream open beta release on Squeezebox !
Further testing with the ickStream Tidal plug-in. I see that Tidal presents some Albums in it's Web View that are up-coming but not yet available and all the tracks are greyed out. These appear in the ickstream UI without comment and lead to unneccessary sound card testing/rebooting etc when trying to play them. eg the album The Billy Fury Story, but I'm sure there are many. ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=102497 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Tidal Hi-Resolution Streams available on ickStream, soon for all Squeezebox users!
There is a test up at http://www.hifisoundtesten.de/ It's AAC 320kbit vs FLAC and quite interesting, despite the fact that I did not like any of the samples... ;) I ran the test twice, once with heaphones, then again with my NuPros. Surprisingly I got 3 out of 5 on both runs, and the same 3 out of 5. I got Nr. 1 and 5 wrong both times. If you can spare a moment, try it and share your results! What this shows is, that I can actually hear the difference, and could even reproduce the results. Also interesting, that I preferred the lossy version on Track 1, while in Track 5 I just wasn't sure what I liked better. Re: [slim] Tidal Hi-Resolution Streams available on ickStream, soon for all Squeezebox users!
By the way, using Tidal for music discovery is bad. Also,I downloaded several albums in HIFI and I have no doubt that a couple of them were not lossless. Im wondering if some of their music library is not in lossless format. Anyone know if its all supposed in be in lossless? jimmypowder's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61215 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=102381 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It's supposed to be, but quite a few titles are still mp3/aac sadly. [slim] Procol Harum concert on BBC R2, Friday evening, 8pm
Assuming that the other person reading the forum also enjoys Procol Harum, a quick post to say that the BBC is broadcasting a Procol Harum concert tomorrow evening, Friday. It's on Radio 2 and I'm guessing the Listen Live feature of the iPlayer plug-in on LMS will play the broadcast. Though I had some CDs of their music, I never had the CD they made with (I think) Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, but I think I've heard what I consider to be one of their best tracks, A Salty Dog, from it. This concert is with a large BBC orchestra and the recording is, apparently, of the UK performance of a tour that has been given elsewhere in the past few months. The programme page is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04njsk5 and the broadcast is at 20: 00 GMT (2000z). Should be good. [slim] Is this a good way to compare interconnect cables?
I was handed a pair of interconnect cables to try out instead of my old ones. These are much more expensive cables than mine. I did some compares of them by switching back and forth . but don't think I can hear any difference. I then thought about a different way to do it all. I take 1 of each different cable and connect one to left channel of preamp and the other to right channel. I then switch my preamp to mono and play a music file and listen to left and then right and then left and then right and onwards. This allows me to listen to each channel that is working with a different interconnect so that I can do a compare. I think I hear a difference. I'm just not sure if this test is truthful or not. On opinion of all . is this a good practice for acurate testing. Many thanks in my advance for your advise. I then thought about a different way to do it all. There's no need to make back-flips to justify the money you (potentially) waste on cables and other gear. If you can't hear the difference right away, then most likely it's not worth it. -- Michael ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
