Theoretically, you are correct. In practice it's quite a task to get
bluetooth working on a debian raspi - then figuring out the appropriate
output for squeezelite - creating a script to allow the connection to
cleanly exit when you switch the speakers off, etc. Believe me, it
takes a lot of low-level kludging.

I wrote a couple of guides - but it's so long ago that I just couldn't
face digging out the details! There's a thread here somewhere with an
account of my travails.

I personally think it's more work than it's worth!

Hi Castalla,
I have not tried it, but for example on a Cubietruck, where is the
problem? Connect the speakers via bluetooth, ok you have to do it by
hand, but it should be possible. Then connect the output of squeezelite
to the analog output device and it should work, as far as I can think.

I don't quite understand the use of it. If you use a small device like
raspi or cubie, you can put it close to the speakers and you will have a
way better sound using a decent cable.

So, if you only need to access your LMS Web UI, you can do that from
your work computer's browser, using port 443. Port 443 will not be
blocked.

eg: http://[your url if you have a suitable DNS record, or your IP
address]:443

You will ALSO need to set up your router at your home to forward port
443 onto [your LMS server's IP address], port 9000 .

I got squeezelite working with bluetooth - on linux - not a trivial task
using debiatn - took hours of bodging to get a stable usable setup.

I already do access LMS remotely via internet connections, just not from
work where the outgoing ports are blocked. Port 80 is forwarded to my
NAS web interface and 8080 is forwarded to my router's web interface. I
was hoping there might be other commonly open ports that I might use.

This is not for streaming, just for occasional monitoring, setting up
playlists for later use, updating plugins and so on. Probably about
half an hour a month!

My work laptop is locked down so I cannot install any software on it -
which probably puts a VPN out of the question.

This is not a major problem so if it is not easily fixed I won't worry
too much.

Maybe:

Waveinput plugin, and a bluetooth receiver dongle, plugged into the

Or, if you have/obtain a Boom, bluetooth receiver plugged into Boom's
line in.

Living room: SB Touch, with coax to: Marantz PM7005, TDL RTL3 speakers.
Dining room: SB Boom.
Kitchen: SB Radio (1/3), with battery.
Bedroom 1: SB Radio (2/3), no battery.
Bedroom 2: SB3 (1/2), AE 2.1. speakers.
Bedroom 3: Slim Devices SB3 (2/2), Edirol MA-15D powered monitors.
Bathroom: SB Radio (3/3) (in white), with (and running on) battery.
Server: LMS v7.9.0 on WSF 2012 R2, HP Proliant Gen8 G1610T, 2.3GHz, 8GB.

This happened on Windows 8/8.1 too when using IE 11.0. You had to
disable 'Enhanced Protection' and add localhost/127.0.0.1 to the
'Trusted Websites'. If you open the LMS website in IE11 on Windows 10 it
does work. I haven't figured out how to open the LMS webinterface in
Edge (Project Spartan).
I couldn't finde the aforementioned options in Edge (Project Spartan)>

I've actually been playing with a new Amazon Echo and it's a close
replacement for a squeezebox if you are willing to put your music in
their cloud. It will play both Tunein and Iheart Radio stations, Amazon
Music, etc. The only current difficiency for me is there is no XM yet,
but, they are adding new features regularly. It's in beta and they are
soliciting input. They've responded positively for suggestions.

I recommend this. it's really got great sound and does much more than
any alternatives. I currently have 5 squezeboxes in rooms throughout my
apartment. I really like the responsiveness of the echo and well as the
voice activation. It's the best interface I've ever used. I also find
myself using it for music and radio more the boxes at this point.

Indeed. I bought my first Squeezebox in April 2004 to replace a Turtle
Beach Audiotron. Haven't looked back since; haven't had to.

Heh... the idea of installing a Windows 10 preview never crossed my mind

I would expect it to work. But I better double check.

Yes, that's true. Logitech was headed that direction with tinyLMS on the
Touch. Maybe the technology wasn't quite ready back them, but it's
certainly doable now. But I think another part of the problem is the
younger folks are content to just use their personal devices and don't
even really care to buy music anymore. Why do they need all this when
they can just stream from YouTube on their phone?

Did I just write "younger folks" in a post? Ugh

I've been completely on the fence about the Apple Watch... you may
have sold another one for them. This might be the killer app to push

The ShairTunes plugin is your best bet I tried it but found it

Re: [slim] Is Bluetooth streaming to Squeezebox possible?

2015-06-01 Thread Guut_Boy

Sorry to not be clear. In addition to what I mentioned above, I have an
mix of devices from which I would want to stream music via BT. This
includes both iPhone/Pad and Android phones.

I would like to be able to play whatever sound is playing on those
devices through my squeezebox players (i.e., the Touch and the
piCorePlayer). I am wondering if this is possible via Bluetooth, but
maybe that is not the case?

The problem is that there is a lot of sources I can not play through
Squeezebox as it is (certain internet radios and other internet
services). Those sources can almost always play on both phones and
tablets, but phones and tablets have very bad speakers. So if there was
some way to just stream the sound from those devices directly to the
squeezebox players the problem would be solved. Maybe I should give the
Shairtunes plugin an other try, it seems to be what is closest to what I
would like.

Maybe I should be a bit more specific about my concrete setup: I have a
Squeezebox Touch connected to my stereo, and a Raspberry Pi running
piCorePlayer connected to a pair of pc-speakers. Both are connected to a
squeezebox server over wifi running on an old Acer Aspire Revo nettop (I
am actually not sure it has Bluetooth but that could be fixed with a BT

I think the OP wants to stream from Android to a sgueezebox device.

Not from the SB hardware itself as these have no BT transmitters. You
could buy additional gear to get BT from SB player headphone out jack
via a 3.5mm BT Transmitter device.

[slim] Is Bluetooth streaming to Squeezebox possible?

2015-06-01 Thread Guut_Boy

I see Bluetooth speakers are becoming very popular, and it make a lot of
sense to me. It seems really convenient to just be able to stream
whatever sound is playing on my phone or tablet on a larger speaker. So
I was wondering if i could do the same through my Squeezebox setup? I
mean if my Squeezebox server has Bluetooth, could I set it up like
Bluetooth speaker and play the sound coming from my phone, tablet or
other devices?

I doesn't really have to be Bluetooth actually, any way to play the
sound from other devices on squeezebox would be fine. I know about the
Shairplay (or is it just called airplay?) plugin, and this would allow
me to what I want at least from Apple devices. The problem is 1) I am
not sure if this would work with Android 2) I tried the plugin and it
seemed to make my server really unstable, so I disabled it again.
