Re: [slim] How to access and update my music via MySqueezebox.com?

2015-11-28 Thread pippin

I think the misunderstanding here is that it's not MySqueezebox.com you
use to access the music on your NAS. You can just download the software
from MySqueezebox.com and it gives you access to online sources.
What you need to access for your local music is Logitech Media Server
which might be running on your NAS. If that's the case you probably
reach it through "http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777

Django, looks like you are on the money Many thanks, I am not
using fake macs, removed the section for the suspect pi in the
server.prefs and bingo it works, very pleased.

I assume at sometime I (or one of my kids!) has been in and started
playing with the settings on the player and caused the issue.

Anyway, its fixed, I can move on to more fettling :-), thanks again to
all on the forum. Also it does make sense as I couldn't see how it
could possibly be the pi, but I was stumped as to where else to look.

Yes, the first stage bootloader firmware is update-able, but usually
there is little need to do it unless you need to boot from exotic
hardware or directly over the net.

Raidar and password is related to your NAS. presumably this is a netgear

accessing the NAS.

Likewise, but then I got involved in "embedded devices" - something that
used to mean an 8-bit microcontroller, but these days means something
that runs rings around a 15-year-old PC both in terms of performance and
complexity :)

@ dasmueller:
its frustrating to see someone that has an idea realized that idea and
decides to share his idea even when that means he has a lot more to to
than just use his thing for his own purposes and some other jump on the
train and ask for impossible or senseless things...

@pkfox:
I realized that there is some interest for an "offline collection
Dokumentation" and i decided
to re-animate my own way to solve this (cause in my private hours i am a
Linux User i cant just use your Tool)

Even without knowing exactly what your doing - i may have a tip for you
and the guys that use your Tool.

"My" way to get a offline Dokumentation of my collection just needs two
tables out of the library.db.

- contributors
- albums

I dont know which tables you use but instead of copying the whole
library.db (if someone has to cause using a headless dedicated lms
Server)
Should be simple as eg:
$lms_offline_db is my var for the filename under Windows it must be
something like %lms_offline_db%
rm is the same as del under *blows -
dont "dump" the same tables into your offline_db twice

Code:

  rm $lms_offline_db
  sqlite3 /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/library.db ".dump albums"|sqlite3
$lms_offline_db
  sqlite3 /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/library.db ".dump
contributors"|sqlite3 $lms_offline_db

After that you end up with a smaller database file if you need to copy
that from your dedicated lms Server.
In my case the shortend library is just 2.8 MB instead of 118 MB.

Feel free to adapt this idea.

I have all my music on my NAS, no problem uploading it to the NAS, but I

This is probably no good explanation, though.

Take a look at the package "raspberrypi-bootloader". The boot loader
needs drivers for the basic hardware and the devices you want to boot
from (SD devices, wlan etc.), and both the boot loader itself and the
drivers can be updated.

You need to install Logitech Media Server on your NAS/ PC/Mac/Laptop, or
on something that will run it.

Your local music files have never been accessible via mysqueezebox.com,
that isn't what it's for.

In a web browser type :9000, what do you get?

Re: [slim] Rasp Pi Problem cant solve

2015-11-28 Thread Julf

Yes and no. The RPi designers did quite some cost-cutting measures. The
first-stage bootloader, in RPi terminology, is indeed in ROM, and can't
be updated, but the only thing that that code can do is load the second
stage (bootcode.bin) from the boot partition on the SD card - so a RPi
can not boot from the network or USB stick. Not only that, but neither
the first nor the second stage actually run on the main CPU - they run
on the GPU (graphics processor). The second stage loads the third-stage
bootloader (start.elf) from the SD card.

So the second stage bootloader on a RPi corresponds to a traditional
basic bootloader, and *can* be updated. The third stage corresponds to a
PC BIOS, and has actual hardware settings (config.txt), and can also be
updated.

As the fourth stage, the actual kernel (kernel.img) gets loaded, and is
the first code to actually run on the main CPU.

Anyway, yes, all the user-upgradeable parts live on the SD card, and the
stuff on the main board can not be updated.

[slim] Can Raspberry Pi, HiFiBerry, Max2Play, PiCorePlayerOS etc save the Squeezebox system?

2015-11-28 Thread dsdreamer

Hi Guys,

Nothing lasts forever, but I am have to say I am impressed by the amount
of activity that's springing up around the globe these days basically by
hobbyists and the technically able users, but it all seems very positive
to me. Some key enablers have been Logitech's enlightened GPL licensing
of LMS, Adrian's wonderful Squeezelite, continued improvements to the
server platform by Michael Herger and others and the explosion in
popularity of boards like the Raspberry Pi, Odroid platforms.

This seems to show two things:
1) People who know about Squeezebox really love the system and will go
to great lengths to keep it running even without commercial hardware
support
2) There seems to a resurgence of interest in high quality audio that is
far removed from the stratospheric so-called "high end" and is more
about kilo-buck headphone rigs than it is about man-cave statement
audiophoolery, and this is not by any means restricted to the boring old
fart demographic anymore.

However, before I get too optimistic and dewey-eyed, there are some
causes for concern:
1) At some point, Logitech will presumably want to shut down
MySqueezebox.com and stop funding the CDN that supports it. Will
Ickstream be a stable and good substitute by then?
2) The lack of commercial hardware still bothers me. The knock against
Squeezebox even in its heyday was that it was too demanding technically
for the average consumer; now that you have to be able assemble a
Raspberry Pi and write a downloaded image to a micro-SD card, the
barrier to general adoption is higher than ever.

There still seems to be a big gap in the market between a $35 streaming
stick from Google and a Sonus Connect box from $350. Is it just
uneconomic to make a box that retails for $250 provides a really high
quality audio streaming client? We're getting pretty close to that with
some pre-assembled kits such as this one:
http://www.audiophonics.fr/fr/appareils-hifi-dac/audiophonics-raspdac-lecteur-reseau-raspberry-pi-20-dac-sabre-p-10369.html.
(I realize there is a big difference between selling a barebones audio
computer and a fully finished streamer with all appropriate codec patent
licenses paid up and CE-certified for electrical safety etc.)
Nevertheless, I can't help wishing for someone to take this on
commercially.

Just some random thoughts on a Saturday afternoon. No big agenda here,
but I would be interested in others' thoughts on the topic. Does the
Raspberry Pi phenomenon help or hinder the chances of Squeezebox systems
staying with us for the next 5+ years?

Charles

This seems to be the issue. I did change that option when I went to a
smart remote setup with an SB3. Now I disabled it, and I think the
problem is solved.
