Re: [slim] Need Help with a Curious USB A to B Cable with Squeezeite Settings

2021-02-20 Thread scslite

I'm using the USB 2.0 on the Pi and tried both of them but no dice. Ok
i read the Curious site FAQ closely this time and will try to go over
some of the tips there tomorrow even though some are rather vague in
what to do. Will see if I can figure out to log as well as suggested in
my rather rudimentary expertise on this at the moment.

Appreciate any other suggestions. Both my other USB cables a Vovox
Textura and a BBQ Full Rack work perfectly fine with the Pi. Just the
Curious looks to be rather finicky but works with the MacBook.

In my opinion all usb cables are the same, if they are complient with
the respective standard

Are you using the usb2 or usb 3 sockets on the pi

I would suggest a couple of logs to start with, boot and dmesg

One set with a certified usb cable (and hopefully working dac)

One set with the Curious cable and non working dac

Ask Mr Woodland about your problem

good luck

I see their FAQ has something in it that suggests this is a known
issue.

Also - other content of their FAQ makes me think that this should be in
the Audiophiles area.

[slim] Need Help with a Curious USB A to B Cable with Squeezeite Settings

2021-02-20 Thread scslite

Hi all,

New to the forum and wanted to see if anyone here has by chance
encountered the same issue I'm having with a Curious USB cable.

Set up is an RPi4B with latest Picoreplayer via the onboard USB output
hooked up to a Chord Qutest DAC.

I'm having problems when I plug in a Curious USB cable where under the
Squeezlite settings the Qutest is not presenting itself as any of the
control options. I only see options for "headphones".

If I plug in the Curious cable from my MacBook Air to the DAC it works
just fine so it appears the cable is working but not when plugged into
the RPi4B.

Using another USB or a generic USB cable from the RPi4B to the Qutest
I'm able to see the Qutest as hardware options under the Squeezlite
settings and can hear audio just fine only when I plug in the Curious is
when the DAC is not being detected.

Are there specific USB cables that may require different settings than
others? I thought all USBs are pretty much the same when it comes to
pinouts and wiring?

Any help with this is greatly appreciated!

I am running LMS 8.1.2 on a pCP 6 and it plays on a boom, touch, radio.
I don't know if this is a "fake memory" (exists in my brain but not in
reality), but I dimly recall that some work was done in LMS 8+ to
address better https streaming. perhaps you can upgrade? I think the
fact that you have sucess with LMS 8 might indicate what the issue is.
One other thing that probably has nothing to do with it, but I am
running the "reliable" https connection plug in. I use that for
podcasts, but who knows...

One other thing, you can go into the page source and choose other
streams. Like I said, I just chose the ones that I thought would be the
best quality.

Thank you very much for the urls for the SLC Rock sites.

I encountered a very odd problem in playing them.

On my Win 8.1 LMS 7.9.0 only the ROOTS2 site would connect and play.
(This is a really nice channel…). The other URLs would show as
“connecting” on the Boom, but never connect and play. All of the
channels on the SLCR site play fine in the chrome browser. These same
non-connect/play would not work on the Radio, Receiver, Classic ether;
ROOTS2 works on these, however.

When I tried all these URLs in Win 10 LMS 8.0.0, all connected and
worked perfectly.

Any fixes or observations to resolve this ‘problem’ would be
appreciated! [i have been using win 8.1 because all of my other audio
tools are on that computer; I could config Win 10 of course)

Thanks again.

pretty cool, thanks for the history and the video link. It helps enhance
the experience. I'll give it a spin.

No metadata as far as I know, just station ID, show and DJ name. They
are a shortwave station broadcasting from Kall in Germany as that is
their hobby. The internet stream is just an add on for those without SW
receivers.

They broadcast in English Fri/Sat/Sun but also have German and Dutch
presenters. We listen because of the Emperor Rosko as his show is
literally a 'wall of sound' and good fun, taking us back to when he
broadcast from the pirate radio ship of Radio Caroline, one of which was
the MV Mi Amigo. Two hours of Rosko and all other programmes feel a bit
flat!

I haven't seen any other metadata with that stream. I haven't looked
for another stream with metadata - I just use Shazam if I really want to
know what track is playing!

success, thank you chill...I only see "The LA Connection" for RDS, is
that just because it's a program now? Do they ever have the song info?

I'm curious now! Can you supply a url for me to try it? I searched via
tune in, and think I found it, but it doesn't seem to want to play.
Perhaps it's because I am in the US.

Another station worth listening to is the venerable, and now 57 years
old, Radio Caroline. Community run and playing only album tracks across
all decades. They have even restored one of the original Caroline pirate
radio ships, the Ross Revenge, and broadcast from it during the summer.
They also have a sister station, Radio Caroline Flashback, playing
music, adverts and jingles from the pirate ship era.
