Re: [slim] A Reminder: When your Squeezebox 3, Touch or *Boom* "stops working"...

2021-09-04 Thread w3wilkes

I've had two Duet receiver power supplies fail over the last 12 years.
The last time I had a failure I bought one of these 'cords'
(https://www.amazon.com/YIKU-Universal-5-5x2-1mm-Charging-Connector/dp/B0825SD9ZM/ref=asc_df_B0825SD9ZM/?tag=hyprod-20=df0=416794793908==g=2008919480420400099c===9029699=pla-973096075837=1===95587149484===416794793908==g=2008919480420400099==c===9029699=pla-973096075837)
and then I can just pick up another USB wall charger. I did have a wifi
card in a receiver fail and that was also replaceable. Any time I need a
player now days I just build up another PicorePlayer. These PCP's will
keep the LMS ecosystem alive for years to come!

Main system - Rock Solid with LMS 8.2.0 on WHS 2011 - 2 Duets and
Squeeseslave
Cabin system - Rock solid with LMS 8.2.0 on Win10 Pro - 1 RPi 3 Model
B/Hifiberry DAC+ Pro/PiCorePlayer and Squeezeslave
Squeezebox Boom - "At Large" player around both home and cabin
Headphones and car - Android phone/Bluetooth w/full library on MicroSD
card - PowerAmp music player app (similar to Material Skin)

What's a "modem" boomer? :-D Kidding. Good point. My cable router is
probably 4 years old. The previous one failed after about 5 years. So
yeah. Point made. :-)

My TV is also over 10 years old - it was a top Samsung 52inch LED model
at the time and cost me dearly, so no need to upgrade it yet... but
it'll probably blow out soon.

Then again I have speakers that I have owned for nearly 30 years... and
they still sound super sweet when I go through occasional rotations.

Your email is now whitelisted so you should get the invite
automatically. I can add 499 more testers :D so just PM me or send an
email to p...@smartskills.tech if anybody else on here or family/friends
want an invite.
I think after you're whitelisted it can even be installed just by saying
"Alexa, open Juke Radio" without having to visit the app. And of course
there's no account linking.

Let me know what you think.

p.s. It's just a P.O.C. so I'll leave the logo as is for now

Amen.

Today my bedroom Squeezebox Boom seemed to fail. Switched power supply.
Works like a charm. To me it has always been the darn power supplies. I
wonder how many people have assumed their squeezeboxen are "dead" and
acted drastically, when in fact it was just a failing power supply.

Juke - A roadside or rural establishment offering liquor, dancing, and
often gambling and prostitution. Also called juke house, juke joint.

Jukebox - The word "jukebox" came into use in the United States
beginning in 1940, apparently derived from the familiar usage "juke
joint", derived from the Gullah word "juke" or "joog", meaning
disorderly, rowdy, or wicked. As it applies to the 'use of a jukebox',
the terms juking (verb) and juker (noun) are the correct expressions.

Little Walter's 1952 instrumental was referencing the juke joints and
his records would have been heard on their jukeboxes

[slim] A Reminder: When your Squeezebox 3, Touch or *Boom* "stops working"...

2021-09-04 Thread pablolie

..at least for me it is the dang Logitech power supplies every friggin'
time. So don't assume the box broke.

I am lucky enough to have several of them around so can easily test with
other power supplies. And... voila!... it's fixed it every time. Never
had another issue with the stable of Squeezeboxen I have... about 5 S3s,
2 Touches, 4 Booms, 1 Radio, 1 Duet. Always the power supply.

I can't recall worse power supply quality in any other product, but in
all fairness I am not sure I have any other piece of electronics in the
house that I still use every day after 15 years or so...

That’s absolutely great Phil. I’ll pm you in a minute.

However the “Juke” reference in the name is nothing to do with a
Jukebox. It’s named after my Black Labrador dog who himself is so named
after Little Walter’s classic blues harmonica instrumental called Juke.
You’ll know it when you hear it.

I couldn't resist creating a beta skill for this  It streams the
'FLAC in OGG container version' to the Echo for LOSSLESS playback (no
transcoding).

A jukebox background image shows on Echos with screens and there's even
a cute logo, but no metadata is displayed on Echos with screens.

If you want to give it a try, send me a PM with your* Amazon account*
email address and I can add you so you'll get an invite from Amazon.

After installing, it's just "Alexa, open Juke Radio". Afterwards,
"Alexa, stop" will shut it down again.

p.s. if you're a subscribed user of mediaserver there's no need to use
this beta — instead just add the stream to your favorites and stream as
usual.
