Re: [slim] Adding a Wiim Mini to your LMS system

2022-11-20 Thread chicks

OK, just tested the Airplay bridge->WiiM Mini. Works OK, except no
album art displayed. Album art displays fine with UPnP, and of course,
UPnP will work up to the 24/192 limit of the WiiM. I think the only
thing I had to configure for UPnP with the WiiM was to turn gapless off,
as it would quit at the end of every song with it enabled.

Eyes are no longer rolling but "hero" is a step too far.

The AirPlay bridge is also much easier to get working correctly! It
either works or doesn’t.
The upnpbridge however is an absolute pig (not because of Phillips,s
code but because the protocol sucks)

Re: [slim] Suggestions for Squeezebox player replacement for a non-techie longtime SB user

2022-11-20 Thread Goodsounds

I appreciate the Airplay caution. I took a quick look around and didn't
immediately find any non-Airplay2 devices for sale online.

With the Wiim Mini, would the steps be as simple as plugging it in,
downloading and activating in LMS the UPNP bridge?

Thanks for the help, this thread will remain an easily available
reference for me when needed. Hopefully not too soon. ;-)

Don't know if it gets mentioned often, but the rechargeable Duet

of pottering round the house or sitting in the garden listening to music

Re: [slim] Darko Audio's recent video tribute to the Squeezebox (GOAT)

2022-11-20 Thread pablolie

... no doubt in my mind.

My system remains complete stable after all these years (I think I got
my first SB3 in 2005 or even 2004). Love the fact it's never support for
anything that matters to me: it has a great user interface, offer
awesome manual control of the music library... it perfectly surround my
pretty capable audio system with everything required to build digital
convenience and outsource anything else to the DAC and beyond.

I'll give you a powerful example, IMO: in 2015 or so, I installed a very
easy to use NAD D7050 digital integrated amp. Perfect for those who want
a simple interface to music and simply control from their phone, with
Spotify build-in... until NAD pulled support for the app and for
Spotify. Let's face it audio vendors expertise isn't software and hence
integrating into a streaming app, because they'll discontinue support
after a few years. It's a story that repeats itself again and again: a
streaming service changes their API some, and unless the audio vendor
commits resources (and probably those resources are dedicated to their
existing and future products), you're left out in the cold. The
solution? I installed LMS running on an ancient Lenovo X61 that runs
Linux, picked up an SB3 from one of my moving boxes (I keep Squeezebox
extras :-D)... and off you go. Spotify now runs without a hitch (thanks
Mr Herger!).

Synchronization is one very neat thing the video seems to omit.

The SB3, Touch and Boom remain my fav products. My experience with the
Duet was horrific, the Controller and Receiver regularly stopped talking
and one had to reset them with a weird procedure and re-boot them etc. I
replaced it in the Bedroom system pronto with an SB3. :-) Back then I
had 6 active SBoxen throughout the house that played in perfect
synchrony, which back then amazed people. :-) On latest count, I
converted over 20 friends or acquaintances to the SB system.

Do you have it working perfectly with the UpnpBridge or are there any
compromises?
If so can you publish the fragment from the bridge.xml file

It supports UPnP, wouldn't bother with the more limited Airplay. UPnP
works nicely, LMS->WiiM Mini.

Usually running latest beta LMS nightly on Raspberry Pi OS with virtual
players (Squeezelite and Airplay bridge). Occasionally using SB Radio,
Boom or Classic.

The AMPs are still with DHL in custom's clearance, although they should
have been delivered Thursday... but they are less than 10kms away :)

With the responses I have, there are 45~48 over the 60 being already
sold, so 10~15 remaining. I'm not worried at all for these, but just to
remind that I don't make those builds often (as always, it's not a
business: I buy the components, pay for assembly and taxes, buy boxes
and bags and that's what you pay for + shipment). So next lot, if any,
is a year away at least.
