Hello, I suppose you found the answer since your post, but just for the
next readers: the answer is you have to set the volume in the player
application, not on your phone, otherwise it will go back to the
previous setting.

Re: [slim] Transporter heat

2017-11-28 Thread Antoniop

Thanks for the answers
That's seems logical to be a little hot then.
It's because the transporter in my house is in a quite completely closed
cabinet so I wouldn't want it to be inappropriately hot. Moreover, the
case has no apertures on the side, as far as I saw.

That's fine then,
Thanks !

[slim] Transporter heat

2017-11-28 Thread Antoniop

Hi all,
I recently bought a "new" (never used) transporter on eBay and I'm a
little bit surprised because it heats up a little bit in stand by mode.
I mean, it's not really hot, it's just a little bit warm, as my other
gears stay always cold when not in use. Is it usual ?
Thanks !

Not only transporters are appearing. I missed a UE radio sale on
amazon.fr some months ago but there was another one in july, 8 units
sold by 3B-It at 163€ which is the normal price, I bought one!

toby10 wrote:

Well, I am not sure. I don't know much these products, but SONOS is sold
everywhere and Bose have also a similar (?) product line.
Anyway, people say they're very easy to use, which is not the case with
LMS.
LMS is too complicated for old people and also for most of the young
people. They have their phone, a bluetooth connection and a speaker and
that's enough.

LMS would have to be easier to use if logitech wanted to start selling
it again. The problem also IMO is that logitech wouldn't be satisfied
with a few thousands sales. when they sell a product, they want to sell
it by millions (that's only my feeling), like the boom speakers and
other products.

I'm also quite happy with the current status quo, because I'm very happy
with what I have and Logitech is letting us "playing with our toys".
I see two big clouds with that status quo : first, I love the old
logitech squeeze products, they have a very good design, wonderful
ergonomics and of course terrific sound for the price. I recently bought
a new (!) squeeze radio on amazon market place and would buy a touch or
a transporter if I could. I didn't found similar products on the market
that could work as nicely with LMS. Fortunately all my squeezebox
devices are still working!
Second problem is that LMS rely only on Michael H and the main plug-ins
on a few developers. Some developers apparently have "left the boat", as
Triode, and some doesn't give news for a moment (Erland, some others ?).
If they all leave, that will really be difficult for us to stay with
LMS.

I think Logitech could, and maybe should, launch another product line as
squeezeboxes devices, but I don't think they will, unless they change
their marketing strategy, which is to sell small devices, easy to use,
not too expensive, for the young.

When you compare the a squeezebox to a CD player keep volume at 100% and

Also if you use a squeezebox as transport for a DAC only 100% volume
will keep it bitperfect as the volume works in the digital domain too .

Smartgain, what's this ? I'm using replaygain.

Maybe I should invest some time and build my own player that could act

[slim] Squeezebox touch or external DAC ?

2014-06-10 Thread Antoniop

Hi everyone,
I currently have a squeezebox 3 that I use for something like 10 years
now. I'm very happy with it, the LMS with all the fantastic plugins :
trakstat, musicip, irblaster, and so on.
It works ok so far but I would look for a better sound, it's notably
better when I play the same music from the CD player, and also I'm a bit
afraid that if my squeezebox comes to stop working, I would be very
upset.
I was thinking about buying the squeezebox touch, there are still some
to sell, it's about 800 euros on amazon, that's not little, but I would
then have a brand new squeezebox that looks nicer, it can play 24
Bit/96khz music files, and have a better dac than the squeezebox 3.
Alternatively, I could keep my squeezebox 3, buy a good external DAC not
too expensive, like http://www.whathifi.com/review/arcam-irdac,
connected with the optical, and maybe I would have a better sound than
with the touch.

I have a quite good (though not audiophile) Denon hi-fi amplifier with
Audio Reference floorstanding speakers. They're quite old, something
like 20 years and costed me at that time about 300 euros for the
amplifier and 600 for the speakers. I'm not thinking to replace them at
the moment, because of the money and also I like the old style they
have.

What do you think ? better buy the touch before they're totally sold out
and then eventually by an external DAC later, or go for a better dac now
?

 external DAC.

I feared to have that kind of answer ;-) That's a sensible advice.

Hi,
I'm running linux mageia 3. I installed the rpm without problem but it
doesn't start.
My perl version is :

# perl -v
This is perl 5, version 16, subversion 3 (v5.16.3) built for
x86_64-linux-thread-multi

When I try to run it manually, I have the following :

# /usr/libexec/squeezeboxserver
NOTE: Class::XSAccessor 1.05+ not found, install it for better
performance
DBD::SQLite object version 1.40 does not match bootstrap parameter
1.34_01 at /usr/lib/perl5/5.16.3/x86_64-linux-thread-multi/DynaLoader.pm
line 213.

/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/Slim/Utils/DbCache.pm line 11.
(... same 2 lines several times)

I installed DBD::SQLite using cpan. I also installed many perl things
using either the package management software or cpan, but It still
doesn't work so I think I'm not going in the right direction.
I know nothing about perl.

Before 7.7.3, I was using 7.8 from http://www.jamesarbrown.com/?p=186
because of perl version problem with 7.7.2, but I've another system to
migrate to mageia 3 and I'd rather use official package.
Before that I was using 7.7.2 with mageia 2, using perl 5.14. I mention
this is the the first time I've a problem with the regular LMS packages,
so I suppose there is a difference on how this last version installs
itself or with my linux.
Thanks a lot for your help.
I'm not an expert on linux, so please be patient.
Antonio

hi Ralphy,

make -f deprecated/makefile.linux26-alsa

I tried the different values from 1024 to 2048, but no real difference,
still stuttering and with the default output (that should be pulse),
still uses a lot of cpu.
On another thread, someone mentionned that hda-intel is 48kHz

Could it be related to it ?

If you still have drop outs increase this value from 0.08 to 0.085,

Is it really 1.0 or is it a typo mistake ? because it's very different

Is it important to set it to the smallest value ?
I can't hear any difference between 0.2 and 1.0, but it only plays

Thanks a lot anyway and congratulations for squeezeslave, it's a really

Sound stutters with squeezeslave. I downloaded the last version on the
svn and compiled it without problem.
I have a eeepc 702 with hda-intel sound chip. The stuttering is not
very important, but enough to be quite anoying.
I'm using mandriva linux with xfce. It uses pulseaudio.
Without any option, squeeslave uses a lot of cpu (around 60%), wich is
a lot even on my very slow cpu. So I tried the different devices.
squeezeslave -L
Output devices:
0: HDA Intel: ALC662 rev1 Analog (hw:0,0)
1: front
2: surround40
3: surround51
4: surround71
5: pulse
6: dmix
* 7: default
8: /dev/dsp
and the best so far is 0. With that device set, it uses only 4% to 9%
of cpu. Using dmix causes a crash at startup and pulse makes no
difference with default.
Squeezeslave is not the only one player to stutter on my pc. VLC has
the same problem, but totem gives a perfect sound.
Anyway, I have all my stats on squeezeboxserver and I like this
program, so i'd rather use squeezeslave.

I've googled a lot and didn't found a solution. Some help would be
gratefully appreciated !
