Re: [slim] Announcing the Squeezebox Duet
I suspect that it was an issue of not having the keys. Without a keyboard the only way to pick a letter is to scroll through them. With the acceleration it's faster to just scroll through the list than to select letter mode (however that could be done), then scroll through the letters, select the one you want, then scroll through the library starting at that letter to get what you wanted. -- Bizarroterl Bizarroterl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13250 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41813 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Backing up music library
I've used SyncToy and AllwaySync. Both are comparable, though everywhere I've seen them compared AllwaySync came out on top. The free version of AllwaySync has a limit on the number of files it will sync each month (it tells you when you hit this limit). The paid version doesn't have this limitation. One thing you should be aware of with SyncToy - It has a limit to the number of files it will sync reliably, IIRC about 50,000. Go over that amount and it doesn't sync reliably and it will not indicate this is happening. You could use it for years and then, when you needed to recover file, find out not everything was saved. To determine if this is happening: Run a full synchronization. Run a Preview and see if any files are out of sync. If they are then you can split your job into smaller batches or pony up the $20 for AllwaySync. -- Bizarroterl Bizarroterl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13250 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39558 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I too, am involved with company email systems. Most spam filters allow only 5-10% of the email through. There is an "arms race" going on between ISPs and Spam generators. Email servers can drop mail for a host of non Spam reasons. Combined, it's amazing how much email actually makes it through. The bottom line is that, as bobkoure stated, email is not a reliable method of communication. Getting mad because someone didn't respond to email is analogous to getting mad at someone because they didn't answer your knock when they were on vacation in Bermuda. Re: [slim] Power outages and Squeezebox
One thing to keep in mind is that a surge protector protects from surges. The majority of power line incidents are transitory brownouts where the voltage drops off. Too low and the power supply doesn't output the proper voltage and the Squeezebox's circuits start to act erratically. That's very likely what you experienced. The only way to correct this is with a UPS as others have recommended. -- Bizarroterl Bizarroterl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13250 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43920 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] dealing with special chars in albumart JPGs?
I too have my album art centrally located. I found that SS was very picky, and an extra space will result in a ? instead of the artwork. My music folders are structured by artist\ablbum\track - name though. I wasn't able to get SS to find artwork for various artists (IE: Various Artists\The Big 80s\track - name) unless I placed one in the album folder. With a flat layout that wouldn't be possible and putting the artwork in the files would be the only way to get artwork to display. -- Bizarroterl Bizarroterl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13250 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40257 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Universal remote using Nokia tablet + Squeezebox
If there aren't discrete codes you can often simulate off/on by using other keys. For DVD/CD players often the play button will turn them on so off becomes play+standby and on is play or play+standby+play. For receivers/preamps selecting the input may turn them on so selectinput+standby becomes off and selectinput or selectinput+standby+selectinput becomes on. You can get discrete and other codes from remotecentral.com's file download section. -- Bizarroterl Bizarroterl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13250 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31665 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I've read in some of the many posts that the 810 will get the latest OS and that OS will be made available for the 800. One of the features is that the new OS will run the CPU closer (or at?) its maximum speed. This means the 800 will see a speed increase. IIRC, the release for the 810 and the new OS for the 800 is scheduled for November. Personally. since I don't have a 800 or 770 yet, I'll hold off and buy the 810. I wanted to be able to put all the album's artwork into my remote. Then I could page through them, decide on an album and select it to play. The remote would then send something like which slimserver/squeezebox would then play. I abandoned the idea though. The slimserver software isn't set up to do this and it would have been a maintenance headache with the remote. Plus, I don't know if the remote has enough memory to handle my entire collection.
