[slim] How to configure music files on USB HD using UBUNTU

2008-11-12 Thread JMK

I have tried for some good time now to get SqueezeServer (running as
service) under Ubuntu to be able to access my My Book external 500GB
VFAT hard disk with my music collection.

Any clues? The best I have been able to do is to login, manually mount
the disk. However, my experience is that from time to time the disk
"disappears" and I'll need to re-mount manually again and again.

The problem is that if I'm not around, then the family is deprived of
music in case of reboots, power failures (I live in India) or when the
drive "disappears".

Any pointers in the specific configuration steps would be greatly
appreciated.

RE: [slim] Y a t'il un français dans la salle ?

2006-05-07 Thread JMK VTX

RE: [slim] What do you use behind the SB?

2005-03-15 Thread JMK VTX
Erh, eh... Perhaps I'm missing something (literally) as I go from the SB via
the phono plugs into a Krell PAM III pre-amp, Krell KSA-50 combo. As the
preamp does not have digital in, should I be thinking of getting a converter
and doing a conversion to analog outside the SB?

RE: [slim] SB reboot when looking for network

2005-03-10 Thread JMK VTX
Bad wireless card in the Squeezebox or in the computer? I've a slightly
different problem (already reported to customer service) where the device
reboots occassionally when listening to internet radio. If I stream from
ripped CDs that are on the hard disk, no problem. Strange, eh?

That's exactly right. At 10, if the Squeezebox hasn't connected to an
infrastructure network, it tries to connect to an AdHoc network of the
same name. I've never heard of this kind of crash, it's possible it's
a bad wireless card or an incompatibility with your access point. What
make/model are the wireless devices on your network?

RE: [slim] switched to wireless -- now squeezebox reboots at random

2005-02-27 Thread JMK VTX
Thanks for the clarification. I've done the reset to factory defaults. No
change in behaviour. I've also checked for firmware updates and am awaiting
the next (I've already reported at least two "bugs" and look forward to
others reporting their problems so that the hardware/fireware is
appropriately updated). However, I'm not sure that this device (TEW-435 BRM)
has been released in the good ol'e US of A and hence may not receive a lot
of users reporting issues. In Europe it seems that people "eat what is put
in front of them". But that's another story.

Could you please explain what specifically
you mean when you referred to "defaulting the
config"?

RE: [slim] switched to wireless -- now squeezebox reboots at random

2005-02-25 Thread JMK VTX

If this is user error, I'd like to be the
first to have someone show me where I've erred. At the SB will play for hours
w/o a problem; other times (and almost exclusively when when playing Internet
Radio) it will reboot and recommence playing. It's extremely annoying. My wife
will not bother anymore using the SB; I put up with it and fumble for solutions
like changing the router (was using Sonicwall SOHO2 router/firewall with Linksys
WAP11; now using a TrendNet TEW-435BRM), changing the wireless channel, changing
the WEP encryption, changing from SS as service to SS as application. etc.
Indeed, changing to the Trendnet all-in-1 applicance resolved a problem I has in
being able to have the SB download the genre list from Live365.

So short of my anticipated move from my
current 13 story apartment to a house in the country next month, where we'll see
if has to do with the microwaves, cordless phones, other WIFI networks in the
same building (I currently count 2 plus my own that I can detect), I too am at a
loss for how this problem can be resolved. Just to reiterate, it in my case it
seems related to playing internet radio through the wireless SB; ripped CDs
seems to never or virtually never have this problem.

Of course, should some enlightened soul be
able to guide me in the right direction, I'll post the "success story" on these
pages.
