Re: [slim] Spontaneous volume reduction
Just cautiously asking - maybe the problem be outside group player? There were some threads about a spontaneous increase of the volume? I had this on a no-grouped AirPlay speaker (well - it is grouped, but it was not playing through the group)? I am using no upnp player android devices, but iPeng. So the problem could be a “sudden volume change”? Rainer > On 25 Mar 2021, at 11:02, slartibartfast > wrote: > > > I have noticed this happening sometimes as well but never figured out > why or when. Re: [slim] Extract chapter markers from mp4 into m3u for fextracted Flac file
I do not think I think I really need m3u files, but I would like to have the 5 hour concert marked / split into individual tracks so that I can access the individual tracks. I remember, that an m3u accompanying the audio (in my case after extraction as aaa, converted to Flac) would be one option, but I would be open (and prefer) the splitting into individual files. > On 3 Mar 2021, at 11:16, bpa wrote: > > > I briefly looked at chapter markers in MPEG4 in relation whether they > needed to be part of MPEG4 support in LMS but after looking around I > felt they weren't used much in audio except for audiobooks. > > From memory. > > I think ffmpeg support of chapter marker for mPEG4 file is limited. > > I think best support for MPEG4 chapter handling is with MP4Box but it > does not have the solution you require. > > Do you really need m3u file or do you want chapter support when playing > MEPG-4 files (which can be aac,mp3 or another audio codec) - similar to > CUE file handling. > > > > bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 > View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114072 > > ___ > discuss mailing list > discuss@lists.slimdevices.com > http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss smime.p7s Description: S/MIME cryptographic signature ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Bye bye wiki?
I would like my support again for read only and NOT MAINTAINED warnings on the sites. OUTDATED does not apply to all pages. But a Forum is definitely not a WIKI, and finding information in a forum is extremely difficult, because you have the original version and than numerous replies with additions and changes and so on. Also: a WIKI would be very useful to get new users started in the LMS ecosystem, which can seem daunting at the beginning, but actually is not. To bring the current wiki up to date, would be a lot of work, and it would be easier to start a new one, which is growing based on the needs and questions of (old and new) users. Another option would be stackoverflow (https://stackoverflow.com), but I think that would be daunting for new users? But it would provide edibility, brilliant search, maintained infrastructure etc. But asking there would draw away from this mailing list. I agree - put it into read-only archive mode and put a big watermark on it. Updating would take lots of work, more that actually starting a new wiki. Re: [slim] Music file storage advice
I don’t see, why a Mac mini should not do the job NICELY with an external SSD - they are not to expensive anymore. If you have a MacBook Pro, I assume you are travelling with it- so I would not use the same machine for travelling and for LMS se4rver. The question is, why is the Mac mini having problems? I would 1) get an external SSD 2) copy the music and LMS settings to the external SSD 3) reformat the Mac mini and re-install macOS (whichever one you can - you mention it is an older Mac ini) 4) install LMS 5) restore the settings from the SSD 6) leave the music on the external SSD. Otherwise, if the Mac mini has hardware problems, I would get a new one or get a pi and run picore on it. > On 7 Sep 2020, at 13:07, Resolution > wrote: > > > I've been storing my music files in apple lossless format on a mac mini > which is nearly maxed out in hard disk capacity and other hardware > aspects such it is hardly able to boot up and play music. time to change > things around. my thought is to upgrade my MacBook pro to one with a > larger hard disk and have just one computer instead of 2 to deal with > and store everything and run LMS from there. but then i thought maybe > there is a better solution that folks here could point me towards. > > > > Resolution's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=70635 > View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112897 > > ___ > discuss mailing list > discuss@lists.slimdevices.com > http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] piCorePlayer or Max2Play - comparison?
Hi I hope I don’t start a flame war now… I am using piCorePlayer as LMS server which works fine (including own access point), but I am thinking: what would I gain, by using Max2Play? I know that one major advantage of Max2Play is, that I can run additional programs (from home automation to print server) on my pi, and I see the big advantage of pCP of being able to just pull the plug without having to worry about corruption of the installation. But is there anything else I would gain? Rephrased: what are the advantages and disadvantages of these two systems, if I only am talking about LMS player and server usage (incl. streaming services, samba, own access point, …)? Setup: * pi (I 2 if I am not mistaken), * external hdd * LMS database on external hdd I will start with important points for me: pCp: + running in memory + runs very robust (no comparison here) - customisation more difficult and limited as running in memory - can be (but usually not) a little tricky to setup Max2Play: no idea - what are the plus and minus? Are there speed differences? Thanks, Rainer -- Rainer M. Krug, PhD (Conservation Ecology, SUN), MSc (Conservation Biology, UCT), Dipl. Phys. [slim] Flac and ??? or Apple Lossless (ALAC) and iTunes?
Hi I am aware, that both are lossless so there are no differences in quality and conversion between them is lossless. So no trouble there. But I am thinking, as I am living in the Apple Ecosystem, if a conversion of my music, which is mainly in flac, to ALAC would make sense. Direct import into iTunes would be the plus - but is there an alternative approach? I am using mp3fs at the moment, but kind of not to happy with it (I think AAC on the iPhone would save a bit of space there?)? I am not planning to put flac on my iPhone (I don’t see the use as neither the speaker nor the headphones are up to that level and 64GB is not to much for flac). I was looking at VOX, but they also only upload the flac. So what are the alternatives to conversion to ALAC and iTunes for iOS? Mac I don’t care - LMS is doing it’s job. What are the advantages of flac (after all, ALAC is also open source)? Rainer -- Rainer M. Krug, PhD (Conservation Ecology, SUN), MSc (Conservation Biology, UCT), Dipl. Phys.
